Come here for the prices. Lunch was ok. Good thing they had salsa nearby. Breakfast is their strong point. Quick and easy. Order at the counter.

    Flauta Plate

This was my first visit here. The flauta plate was hardy with four chicken flautas, rice, beans, guac and sour cream. It was just okay. Mostly because it was a bit under-seasoned. The service was also just okay. We went right before closing (1:45) and felt rushed. We understood the time and planned to eat quickly but a customer should not ever feel like a burden. The ambiance was quaint and clean. Not a bad experience and not stellar.

Tacos are not what I remember. We visited as a party of 4, two kids two adults. Order at the counter and seat yourself. The flour tortillas were great but the carne guisada was dry. Something about their recipe changed. . . The country potato tacos came packed with sausage. The sausage is actually really good but I had to take some out because it was overflowing. My kids unfortunately did not enjoy their food. The ground beef soft tacos were too greasy and the beef fajita plate, the fajita meat was too soft and chewy. Not a great cut of meat. Normally a staple when we come into town but not sure we'll stop by again.

I was totally impressed with customer service, food portions & available seating. Every plate that went by me looked sooo good! I will visit Taco House again soon.

Fast Fresh Clean It's not often you get all three is a taco house. The tortilla are made in house and you can taste and feel the difference. The service is fast and friendly and the serving is generous. Highly recommend! It's been here for decades Incase you were worried it might disappear.

    Deluxe Nachos
    Stephen W.

I was in the mood for nachos, so I decided to try this place out. The Deluxe Nachos came piled high, I had them hold the onions and tomatoes so your order may look a little different. I wasn't a big fan of their Picadio meat on the nachos, it's too grainy for my palette. The guacamole was spot on the chips were crispy and the plate was piled high! I couldn't finish it all. You walk up to the counter and place your order and then they call your number to pick it up. So basically self serve. They have a banner celebrating 30 years in business, so the place is a little older but not in bad shape. It's all wide open with big tables so you could come with a larger group and be ok. They do close at 2pm. So you have to come early.

I love coming here. Their food is so fresh and authentic Tex-Mex. Their Barbacoa is not too greasy but not too lean it's just perfect. All the breakfast tacos are packed and the crispy tacos and their tostadas are the best. they're very crunchy and tasty and they're always filled with a lot of toppings like lettuce, tomato cheese, and onion. This is definitely a place you need to try if you haven't ever been here, it's always a little crowded but there's never really a wait you order your food and then you wait for them to call your number and then you go pick up your food and take it to your table. If you're in the area of San Pedro and Oblate area, I would definitely try this place out. It's amazing.

Soft tacos/chicken. Beans and rice with a sweet tea

My new go to lunch spot. Friendly service and great food. The salsa bar was on point. I had the soft tacos.

Beef and chicken puffy tacos. Superb, get these!
    Michael B.

TLDR: This is a hidden gem, go try it! My first 'puffy tacos' since moving to San Antonio! I feel like I've lost a (food) virginity, and in a most delicious way. I know that most people are fans of Henry's or Ray's Drive Inn, but I was told to skip these and visit the Taco House over on San Pedro Avenue. Turned out this was an old school Tex-Mex diner that's only open 7am-2pm. Everything from the beans/rice/tortilla to the pair of puffy tacos was delicious and made fresh to order. In fact, I had to let the puffy tacos sit for a little as they were really steaming when they came out. One was stuffed to bursting with shredded chicken, the other with ground beef. Both great, though the ground beef one really brought back some memories as it was mixed through with bits of potato. All around excellent! Definitely returning. This place scores a 5 out of 5 on the 'CTJ Scale', as noted below. 5 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Jesus good. Would be OK passing away after finishing a plate here. 4 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Mary good. Would be OK having a nosh here with Mother Mary. 3 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Joseph good. Would be OK having a beer here with Jesus' Dad. 2 out of 5 stars: Come-to-the-Apostles good. Meh. Wouldn't have my last supper here. 1 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Nobody good. I wouldn't have my penultimate supper here, either.

    Frances S.

I love this place. The chicken puffy tacos are my absolute favorite. The steak fajita salad use to come in a deep fried taco shell, but they've stopped doing that so I was a bit bummed. Please bring it back! They make their flour tortillas from scratch and they're fresh and freaking delicious. Parking can be a headache if you come during the weekend, if you do, I wish you luck, otherwise parking is okay during the weekdays. Always check their hours, because I've come here on a Sunday at 4 pm and they're closed already. The restaurant is a bit run down, there's only one bathroom for the men and woman so I would have to wait in line in a narrow hallway to wash my hands or use the restroom, but the food makes up for it. Food is always tasty here.

GAME CHANGER! When…read moreI visit San Antonio Plantaqueria is an absolute must. I'm taken aback every time I walk into to this wonderfully positioned taqueria in downtown steps from the River Walk. The smells, the feels, the sounds- it'll set your senses on fire. It's ambience is nothing short of walking the streets of Mexico and stumbling across the best local food find there is- it's your lucky day. It doesn't end there, because I have yet to discuss the flavors that this place dishes out. If you can imagine that other taquerias in town as as good as mamma's cooking, Plantaqueria is grandma's cooking saying, " I taught them everything they know." The counter service, decor and neon lights transport you to a pueblo that you probably have no business being in but were fortunate enough to get lost in. I feel that the people working to advance this visionary concept are in love with what they do because you get that experience with every bite of fresh, homemade goodness, weather you dine in or take/order out. Dude, fresh corn and flour tortillas, C'mon, man!! And speaking of vision, the owner, Sofia, who looks like she would get IDd at a bar has created something truly unique and incredibly delicious. Plantaqueria has revolutionized modern, classical Mexican street cuisine. It's open 7am-7pm so you can literally have this all day and you might wish you did. Y'all need to get you some, and don't thank me, thank the purveyors of this Alamo City gem. P.s. I've brought my mom in to eat this stuff and she totally agrees!

(It had Just Egg but I think other things added with it. It felt that it was softer and lighter than if it was only Just Egg) and pico de gallo on handmade flour tortilla. We were surprised by how much we enjoyed it. Their two self-serve complementary salsas were also fun and creamy. Concha- Delicious and we liked the top of it. Maybe one of our favorite conchas. Elote hot cake - Came out really hot and was delicious. These are only available on weekends. I was tempted to get more but we had lots more food targets on the schedule. Torta with Asada was pretty good too. But the other items excited me more I think. The person at the front also gave us some samples of other taco fillings to try: the fillings of the La Ranchera: Potatoes and pico de gallo in salsa ranchera and also grilled nopales. My husband who is usually not as crazy as me about nopales liked them here. They have mole on the weekends but it's not housemade from scratch. They use premade mole and add some more things to it so we skipped that one. My general rating system: 1 star: I would stay away 2 stars: Has some good things about it but I generally don't recommend. 3 stars: Pretty good. I wouldn't go out of my way to go back but a decent place 4 stars: Great place. I would go back. 5 stars: I highly recommend stopping whatever you are doing and making plans to try it out! An Evie favorite!

That's exactly the energy at Los Weyes de la Asada. From the second you walk up, it feels alive. Not in a forced way, more like you've been there before, even if it's your first time. The kind of place where your stress, your diet, even your cruda takes a backseat. Now the food. No overthinking needed here. Everything coming out of that truck is a straight up pow pow of flavor. The carne is cooked just right, juicy with that perfect char, and the corn tortillas are legit, soft but with enough structure to hold everything together. I ordered the Mamón and the Chingón, and honestly, both lived up to the names. No misses. And the agua fresca de fresa? That sealed it. They serve it in a little bolsita, which somehow makes it hit even better. Simple, nostalgic, and just cool. It's all tucked inside El Camino, which adds to the whole vibe, string lights, people hanging out, that easygoing outdoor feel where you lose track of time a little.

The smell alone made me think we were in for something special. We grabbed a couple of cocktails and ordered tacos, which seemed like the obvious choice. With the aroma coming from the grill and all the recommendations I'd heard, I was expecting a little more flavor and a bigger wow factor. The atmosphere was fun, the service was good, and the charcoal grill definitely adds to the experience. I just found the food itself to be more "solid" than "spectacular." I'd rate it about a 7 out of 10. Worth trying if you're already at El Camino, but not a place I'd go out of my way for.

As a fellow citizen of H-town, we have a vibrant taco scene and I would put this place up there with some of my favorite spots I frequented in HOU. Each time I've been here, I've ordered between 8-9 tacos as they are each $2.50. I've gotten a combination of pastor, barbacoa, lengua, bistec, and cabeza. I can't really select a favorite cause they're all so delicious with the meats tender and juicy with a heaping sprinkle of onions and cilantro. Make sure you squeeze the lime on it and mix it with the radish/cucumber garnish they'll throw in there. And don't forget to throw on that green/red salsa they provide. Either eat there or get it to go (which is what I did). Fortunately the tacos travel well as they were still hot when I posted up at my hotel to grub. Don't be discouraged of the long line if you see one as it moves quick. You walk up and place your order, then pay afterwards. It's somewhat of an honor system but there is security present when I went there so that eased my concerns. For drinks, it's either soft drinks, water, or mineral water. No alcohol is served here so if you want margaritas/micheladas/beer, you'll have to go elsewhere for that. No doubt I'm returning next time I'm in SA. Viva Taquitos West SIDE!
