Also, don't sleep on the pancakes they're huge (like, the size of the plate!) and super good. Definitely worth ordering, especially at their affordable price point. Coffee was hot and flavorful, and the service was friendly and on point. My only complaint is the salsas the red one tasted too vinegary and the green was watery and not spicy at all. Was hunting for a place to get some homemade corn tortillas because they simply are the best! I placed my taco order on the phone, the service was nice and friendly and the food was good, I enjoyed the corn tortillas flavor and texture the only not so great thing was they fell apart so easily but that's nothing that your fingers or a fork can't fix. read more

Some of the same people and even more food variety. I loved this place when it was down the street and am so happy to see they have a larger place now. The sweet tea is yummy. They will even put it in a to go cup. The tortillas. Wow. Well made and melt in your mouth. All the food is good. They even have like Mexican candy there and little treats. Staff are sweet. It's. Spacious for groups now. Or table for one or two is good too. Prices are way reasonable. It's not ridiculously cheap because they do make it all well but you definitely get your money's worth. This mom and pop shop has never let me down. Me and my mexican sized 20+ family love this place. (we never agreed on best taco place till we found this place) Carne guisada is crack like addictive. Machacado and egg is great here too. Barbacoa on the daily. You come for the tacos, but stay for the quality and customer service. My 60 year old mom who can cook with the best, loves this place for any and all of their plates. Portions are well sized. Prices are extremely fair. One of my favorite lunch spots. I usually order the Fajitas Callejeras (Beef, Chicken fajitas and sliced sausage mixed with onions, green peppers and Serrano chile). Soooo good! Just moved to this area and needed tacos after a long night. Decided to try La Barranca since we drive past it every day. It was slightly busy inside, but I went to order to go. The guy that took my order was nice, I ordered 12 tacos to go which ended up being a little pricier than I anticipated. Someone needs to make a Bean Cheese and Bacon taco a menu item already. I took off a star because I was seriously convinced that they lost my order or forgot about me. After 30 minutes I finally got my tacos and went home. The tacos were alright, the picadillo was delicious, not greasy or salty which is one of our benchmarks for a mexican restaurant. I will say the green sauce is to die for.. I still think about that sauce. Hence the 4 stars. But everything else was just ok. Not sure it was worth the price, but in a pinch we will be back to sample the menu - maybe dine in - and definitely get some more of that green sauce! read more

La Barranca is the best, most consistent, delicious neighbourhood restaurants in the city. I would eat there every day if I could. San Antonio is full of tex-mex dives but this place is not a dive it is like eating in the humble home of my abuela. You can taste the love in every bite. read more

Happened to be driving by this place and noticed a full parking lot. Since this place is right down the street from our neighborhood I decided to give it a try. I ordered the chiliquiles. Food came steaming hot with an ample serving of papas and frijoles on the side. Food reminded me of a home cooked meal. They offer 2 choices of salsas. One red salsa that is very hot and a milder green sauce. I opted for the red sauce which complemented the chiliquiles well. Went back once more and had the nopalitos guisados (fresh stewed cactus) and the chicarones ranchero tacos (pork rind ranchero style taco) . The noplales were bathed in a rich red chille sauce and the chicarones are cooked along with a fresh pico di gallo. Wow awesomely satisfying and well flavored. I will say that most might be thrown off by hole in the wall atmosphere but if you are willing to give it a try I think you wont be disapointed. read more
