My favorite bean and cheese in the neighborhood! Tortillas are always fresh and handmade. Service has always been fast and polite for me. It's a little small and quaint inside so it feels more comfortable, not cramped. I love being able to pop in, order my tacos and be off in about 5 minutes. The guy at the register always has a nice send off "be safe". It makes me happy and feels like I'm cared for. No other restaurant cares about you AFTER you have left. read more

I've came to this location a couple times and the service has not been good. The food is good though, but I prefer the other locations. The waitress saw me and decided to not clean my table until my food was out. The cashier also charged me twice for a to go cup, but claimed he didn't. Don't come here. I have been a customer of this place for years. Lately, the wait time is horrific and unapologetic. Today was the worst experience I've had at this place. We waited 30 minutes before I had to ask the waitress what was taking so long. She said just about to go check, she comes back yo say that they were out of tortillas and would another 10 minute wait and asked if we still wanted to wait or cancel the order with an indifferent attitude. We waited another 15 before the food came out and was the worst carne guisada I've ever been served. It was more gravy than beef! The waitress no longer returned to inquire if everything was ok. The people here take no pride in customer service and satisfaction, and are only there to ride the clock for their oh so meager restitution. Very nice place, in a convenient location. They were in desperate need of an additional server they only had one and she was running ragged. Could not get coffee refills she did not bring our tortillas out until we were almost done. The food was good, not great, but good. Didn't try the tacos, supposedly that's what they are known for. This is a two part review, one based on food and the other on customer service. The food is fantastic albeit all I ever eat is breakfast tacos. I have lived far from this location but have commuted there on weekends just for their tacos. In all truth they are the only breakfast tacos I enjoy and those get a five star from me, except the chorizo and potatoes which is rather bland and more potato than chorizo. . The only reason I have not given this five stars is because I rant and rave about this place all the time. Their business hours are stated as 6am-3pm on their door. I planned to get some to share with my coworkers and get there a few minutes past six. The door is locked which is fine but finally a woman inside did nothing more than shake her head at me. I gestured that it was time and she just kept shaking her head at me. I proceeded to go in my car and call just to ask when they would be opening so that I could decide if I should wait around. She did not answer the phone, of course so I left. I always get great customer service and always call ahead on weekends so I know it's a working number. Because they were not open during their posted business hours, and there was no sign posted saying otherwise I have knocked it two stars. I would recommend Taqueria Data Point instead. read more

I don't buy my breakfast tacos anywhere else! This place consistently puts out tacos that rival homemade. It's a little hidden gem in the Dellview neighborhood, located right next to Delicious Tamales to go. There are numerous taco places scattered down West Ave and Vance Jackson, and believe me, I have tried them all. There is a reason Cafe San Luis stays open, they fry up their potatoes every morning. The red and green hot sauces are fresh every day. The bacon is not chewy or fatty. The tortillas are never dry. The only complaint I have is when I finish my tacos I always want more, but I don't need the calories!!! Don't miss this place. read more

Just like their Castroville Rd location, the food is great. Always fresh & delicious. Ambiance isn't great, but that's what keeps prices low. Don't need the fufu atmosphere. Excellent salsa, soups & taco/enchilada plates. Staff is always friendly and courteous. Wish they had longer hours! UPDATE: June 14, 2013 Yep! San Luis is still an excellent little cafe with the focus being on delicious food. Customer service is still friendly and courteous. I ordered their Chicken caldo on this visit, but they were out. Plan B was their beef caldo. Geez, it was excellent. My bowl was overflowing with a large cut of beef, fresh veggies and greaseless broth. The prices are good and the food is decent. Overall there's nothing to complain about, but also nothing to write home about. I had some breakfast tacos that were perfectly average and a torta that was too soggy. There are many other places around town where you could pay the same for better food. read more

I love this place for an authentic Tex-Mex. The food reminds me of the food prepared by my family as a child. The food is really good and the prices can't be beat. Today, I had the huevos rancheros, eggs easy over, with a side of beans, potatoes and bacon. I even had them add cheese to the sauce. It was delicious! read more

Not bad. We waited 45 minutes on breakfast of pancakes and machacado... The coffee is alright. Food is decent. Not bad if you are looking for a bite to eat and have time to wait on a Sunday morning. Otherwise, tortillas are just regular. The waitress was nice but not very prompt and with only one waitress it's understandable. It's a small establishment and food is made to order however we would have appreciated even a joking comment about how backed up the kitchen was.
