A suggestion by Yelp and a local from our Rock Climbing excursion. When we arrived we noticed they were really busy and the hostess give us no attention. About 3-4 minutes he finally comes over and says it's going to be 20-25 min before we can be seated even though we saw a number of tables unattended. He let us know the kitchen was backed up and understaffed and that's why he was waiting to seat anyone so the kitchen can catch-up. I did like the honesty and we decided to stay. He suggested we can sit at the bar and when ready, he'll grab us and seat us. The bar was good! Bartender was nice and busy but we had our drinks! About 10 minutes later, we noticed a number of parties coming in and they were seated immediately, 4 to be exact. I got up and asked the hostess, "you said it was going to be 20 minutes and i see you seating parties". At that time he pulled the Heisman on me with a finger in my face saying "I'll be with you in a second". I was fired up...... Back to the bar and a few minutes later, the hostess comes over (never apologized) and said we can follow him. Took us to our table on the patio and we stayed. Needless to say, I was still fired up. It was a Friday night and my wife and I started to search on where should we go and grab dinner elsewhere. We figured by the time we left, waited for another table etc etc.., it wasn't worth it, so we settled. We left the table and went back to the bar. We ordered the Hummus, Pizza, and a basket of fries. One word. Ehhhhhh. Appetizer was Popcorn chicken, essentially 5 small pieces of chicken with "buffalo" sauce (incredibly mild) with a few pieces of carrots and celery. Dinner was New Guy pizza- pulled pork was delicious, reminded me of a BBQ chicken pizza, veggies on it were fresh. Also had the Duck burger with crumbles cheese and a blueberry glaze? On it. Ordered medium rare; when cut into it was raw on the inside. Little mistakes are okay, I'm not picky nor am I pretentious but what makes me want to give 2 stars and not more was the service. Not entirely our waiters fault however the service was terrible for a relatively average dinner rush. We sat outside and there were only 2 waiters for 11+ tables. He was inattentive and didn't bother checking in while we sat there eating our pizza and French fries with our Duck sandwich cut in half. We had to ask the host 3 times for our waiter to come over. All while I could see in the back he was bussing a table?? The Duck burger was thrown out (I just ask him to cook it a few more minutes as we didn't touch it) and a new Duck burger was brought out. The worst part? The Duck burger didn't even taste like Duck. Disappointing. Ultimately the food was mediocre, the service was awful. I do not recommend eating here. We ordered the mussels which is what they're known for - it was average at best and the bread that came with it had seasoning on it that made it taste ultra bitter. We ordered the the tofu bahn mi and the bang bang chicken. The tofu was so salty it was inedible and completely disgusting. It was as if they marinated the tofu in baking soda. I told the server and all she did was say "I'm sorry, I'll tell the chef." She didn't offer to replace it or remove it from our bill and we had to pay for it. Needless to say we took this out of her tip. I'm sorry but bad service is completely unacceptable. If you want good service and edible food, go elsewhere. read more

In a town like Bar Harbor, where restaurant greeters wielding menus like brandishing irons, Lompoc was a welcomed respite from the hustle of Main Street. We arrived at Lompoc at 4pm after setting up camp at Blackwoods, having skipped lunch and wrestled with a 20'x10' tarp, and just wanting some damn cold local brews. We started off with some Bar Harbor Brewery pints and finally felt fortified enough to take a look at the menu. Two words: BANG BANG. I've never had a better chicken sandwich in my entire life. It's a humble sandwich with little more than chicken on focaccia with mayo but the whole (with our server's suggestion of honey and hot sauce) is WAY more than the parts. Actually, I'm obsessing over how to recreate it. Warm focaccia? Check. Tasty Mayo? Check. Now do I brine the chicken breast? Direct dredging in cornmeal or an eggwash first? GAH! We stopped in for a quick bite on a recent stay in Bar Harbor. It was a gorgeous night and we easily scored a table outside. I had a Rodick Boulevard, which is their version of a Manhattan. Tasty! My husband had one of the local beers on draft. We ordered the Allium pizza (fennel, caramelized onions, shallots and red onions), the Dilly snack (house pickled beans and vegetables) and the Veni, Vidi, Vici salad, which is their version of a Caeser. 'We might have a pie....somewhere?' Oh boy This is our favorite line from our trip. And the funniest. This is what our waiter told us while looking both confused and seriously distressed, when we asked if they had dessert after abandoning our meal. Classic. And it really captures our dining experience at Lampoc Cafe. We were seated inside initially, where it was stuffy and claustrophobic. So, then, we were seated outside all by ourselves in the front under the trees (very pretty), as if in exile. They have bocce. Cool. Plus mark for that. I ordered ice tea because the water was hot and smelled like an old faucet. I'm from the south - we need ice and we need refills. I was given a narrow shot glass type cocktail vessel filled 1/4 way with iced tea and ice. Like 3 oz of liquid max. My husband joked 'guess they ran out'. Actually, they did and our waiter assured me I would get some as soon as the new batch was made. This did indeed occur about an hour later when he gave me 4 more ounces because that's all they had. That iced tea was $2. Wow We ordered 2 appetizers. Goat cheese, garlic bread and honey. The cheesy flatbreads with hummus. These were tasty. Nothing to go back for, but better than lobster because we were all lobstered out. Then we ordered the lamb shawarma to split. Terrible. Awful. Disgraceful. Bland, dried out, old stale stringy lamb with no flavor or pleasantness whatsoever served with some highly pickled (i.e., drenched in white vinegar) raw red bell peppers and chopped cucumbers. Ate here last night with my niece. A lovely location, away from the bustle of downtown and perfectly shaded on a warm evening. My Grandparents ordered salads, and my sister ordered a grilled cheese. The food took a very very long time. The food: My burger, ordered rare, was nothing less than well done. The food itself, with the huge exception of the burger order, was otherwise OK. I should mention that the cocktail itself was quite good. The burger screw up was quite infuriating, and not bringing water to my 90 year old grandparents is pretty unforgivable. Calm and comfortable atmosphere with strings of lights and benches with pillows. The food is the best I've had in Bar Harbor. My family had the scallops and beehive appetizers, the New Guy Pizza, the Indonesian Peanut Sauce Wrap, and the Bang Bang Chicken sandwich. Came here for dinner with my boyfriend, sister, and her boyfriend while in Bar Harbor. The place is so cute, ambience is wonderful, decor is great, and lighting is perfect. They also have a Bocce court outside. Our waitress was so cute (my sister and I couldn't stop raving about how adorable she was!). We ordered a few drinks (wine and beer) and started with the warm artichoke dip (we all loved it) and the spicy dijon mussels (asked for more bread to use for the artichoke dip and they gladly gave us more). We stopped here for a casual bite after an 8 hr road trip to Bar Harbor. While we didn't catch the live music that night, we were very satisfied with the dishes: my boyfriend and I shared the creamy, slightly spicy mussel appetizer and would highly recommend it! The beer on tap was great, and that just started our since exploration into beer in bar harbor. My bf had the shrimp po-boy: the shrimp were fried with just enough crisp to still maintain the juiciness and strong shrimp flavor. The herbed ciabatta also complemented the shrimp. I had the seafood chowder, which while delicious was a bit too heavy on the cream for my taste and is the reason I'm giving this review 4 stars. I really really wanted to like this place. Creative menu, casual, friendly vibe ... But, they took our order and lost us, at 4:30 ish when the place was empty. They acknowledged and comped us a yummy lemon tart for dessert, but we waited about an hour for food. And I'd have forgiven them if the food was special. I had the Ramen noodles which has great potential, but it was salty and the tofu was fried far too long and lost any hint of subtlety. The wife had Shrimp and Grits one of her faves, and wasn't wowed. The boy had a thin crust pizza plain, which was nice, but not special. We want to try it out because of the review. The menu has somewhat changed from the previous review. The peanut sauce is okay, but I had better in other thai restaurants, not helping that it was served cold. The root salad is great with an interesting use of shallots. I did expect a warm salad but it turned out cold, but it did not affect the flavor one bit, which became the best dish of the night. Last, we ordered Greek pizza - and I have to say - avoid it unless you are desperate for pizza. Although the flavor is good, The crust has a texture of over baked bread. Great ambience, a bit too dark but romantic couples will not complain. Overall, it's okay experience, but we left feeling we didn't got what we want. read more

Maybe I was there on a bad night. I don't know. The food was horrible. We started with the Mussels based on the reviews here. They were the one thing that was really good. Get some. Dip your bread in the sauce and you'll love it. But the rest of the food was horrible. My meatloaf resembled a large, dry rock and was served on hard toast with barely a drip of gravy. We had a wonderful experience - all of the staff were incredibly personable and knowledgeable, which started things out on the right foot. They have an excellent craft beer list and fun cocktail options if you are feeling thirsty, and their seasonally rotating menu has plenty of meat eater, vegetarian, and vegan options. Best of all, they offer indoor and outdoor seating with a bocce court in their wooded courtyard. This is definitely the best place we ate Bar Harbor. I do not understand why there isn't a line out the door and am thrilled to have stumbled upon it. The food is delicious, and the garden setting (with bocce court) is beautiful and low key. My boyfriend and I split the ricotta fritters, the fish chowder, the goat cheese and kale pizza and the lamb shawarma sandwich, and all four dishes blew us away. The ricotta fritters were good but they had more red onion than bacon which was a little disappointing. Still tasty I guess just too much red onion and the bacon was basically nonexistent. The hot pitas were tasty. They were almost like a really soft crust pizza with no sauce. Generous amount of cheese and the hummus and harissa (smokey pepper paste) were tasty. Lompac is the gastropub for people who want good food in a relaxed, informal atmosphere. With 10+ beers on tap and a creative menu, there's bound to be something for everyone. Our personal favorites are the Fishwich, lobster club, fish chowder, and even the pizzas (especially for the kids). We also lived their side salad featuring mixed greens with a light coating of a shallot vinaigrette. To top it off, there was a bocce court on premises which entertained the kids to no end. Happened upon this place while walking around Bar Harbor and decided to give it a try. Definitely glad we did! The outdoor seating was nice and the place had a really cool feel to it (plus they have a bocce court); much different than the typical restaurants in the area. This is a unique little place that, surprisingly, doesn't serve any lobster. I really enjoyed the bee hive appetizer- the goat cheese had hints of garlic, and the apple and honey complemented very well. The bread was toasted well, not too crunchy or dry. I got the shrimp po boy with no tomatoes, and was very happy with it!The shrimp was meaty and well spiced. The whole sandwich had lots of flavor and actually was spicier than the usual po boy. My one complaint is that rather than the usual sub-type bread, they used ciabatta, which made it a bit messier to eat and also seemed a bit thicker and drier than the ideal. We also got a big fat slice of chocolate almond cake, which was not too sweet! I also wish they had more dessert options, but their one option was well executed. All in all, it was a delicious meal for a wonderful price, and the service was very friendly. If I'm ever back in town, I would definitely come again! read more

This was a new find on our last trip to Bar Harbor in August. We went for some pre-dinner apps and a few drinks on a rainy day. We were the only ones there upon opening, but it filled up pretty quickly. We tried the grits, the mussels, and the beehive. All three items were super. My mom, who doesn't even eat grits, loved them and was blown away. The beehive is something we keep meaning to replicate at home... roasted garlic and goat cheese layers with honey? It's just SO good. The reason we wanted to go to Lompoc was to dry the mussels and we weren't disappointed. They had the best dijon flavor and I can't wait to go back to have them again.
