It's more than just a market. Yes, they have the usual grocery and sundry items, but they also have clothes. Souvenirs. Some hardware items. Fishing and camping gear. They have a decent hot and cold deli, and they also do espresso drinks. I stopped by the deli, and I decided to have the pastrami on provolone with rye bread. It also came with the usual fixings, lettuce, tomato, mayo, and Dijon mustard.. I got my sandwich and took it out front to enjoy the nice day. The sandwich was huge! They were very generous with the pastrami, all of the Fixin's played very well with the pastrami, and I loved that rye bread. The bread didn't hold up to the sandwich perfectly, it was falling apart, just a little bit, but hey. It happens. It was just an absolutely excellent sandwich. I was going to stop at half, but it was so good, I finished the whole thing, and waddled away. The price for this great sandwich and a soda was extremely reasonable. Next time I'm up here, I will be back. Thanks.

With everyone ordering something different, we got a good sense of their diverse menu. My salami sandwich was outstanding, easily one of the best I've had. Several others raved about their burgers, calling them the best they'd ever eaten. The menu also includes hot dogs, prepared hot food, and pizza. For those in a hurry, pre-packaged options are available. Despite our large group and other customers, the friendly staff efficiently handled our orders, getting our food to us much faster than a traditional sit-down restaurant could have. We enjoyed our meals at the outdoor picnic tables, taking in the stunning, panoramic views from high above the treetops. Whorton's Market is a must-visit in the area. But since we were staying in Placerville for a couple nights, I thought I might have to give up some of that healthy eating. Lo and behold... the Placerville Food Co-op!!!! Organic fruits, vegetables, kombucha on tap (and special kombucha from well known brands), gluten free snacks/frozen foods, oat milk, non-dairy ice cream, organic dog foods, food + fresh pressed juiced bar... oh my heavens, I was in love. We even found gluten free brownies and dairy free chocolates from well known out of state brands. And well-priced. Not to mention, we asked for recommendations on gluten free friendly restaurants and the store clerk came back with a list of 15 restaurants! Was not expecting that. Please support this co-op if you are ever in the town of Placerville. Definitely a hidden gem.
