This would be a great place to put a grocery store. Raleys used to be the gold standard for grocery stores. I grew up with them. Recently they'd have turned into an absolute joke. Grossly over priced, no inventory, and their employees are very rude. I just went to buy Christmas dinner there. They had no turkey, no stuffing, no gravy. I'm at a loss 6 days before Christmas??!!! I really hate to put this out there. I went in to get a sandwich from the deli from the Raleys in Auburn, CA. I was there for a few minutes and asked the young man for a turkey sandwich. He looked at me and another guy and said "who was here first". We both stated I was there first and I started to say that I wanted to order a turkey sandwich. The young man behind the counter interrupted me and said "fill out that paper and put it there" as he was pointing to the counter. As I was doing so, he stated to the other guy "what are you getting, I'll get that started". Nice gesture to the other guy. Then, I completed my sandwich request form and put it exactly where the young man told me to. Behind a few others walked up, completed their sandwich request form and placed them next to mine. One by one, other sandwich request were completed until myself and someone else asked about my sandwich. It was only after a white lady was in unison with me and asked about my sandwich, did someone take my sandwich request form and completed it. Oh! Did I mention that most everyone else there was white in color? As i finally received my sandwich, I went to the self checkout to pay for my sandwich. After I paid for my sandwich, there was a lady there by the name of Terri. I asked Terri if there was a manager that I could speak to. Terri immediately stated "I'm a manager". I told her my complaint and Terri immediately stated I was lying. Not only that Terri asked me "did you pay for that"? As I had my sandwich in hand, I stated "yes, I paid for this, here is my receipt". I've shopped Raley's and Bel Air for years. I am a loyal customer and have been for a very long time. I have never felt that type of treatment from Raley's and Bel Air. I expect that from places but not from there. Not from there. This is a pretty large grocery store and we had no issues finding just what we needed. I will say that I wish they had a better dedicated gluten free section especially for pizza, as it was what we were there for. Check out was fast and painless and parking was in a lot so no issues there. read more

So I get in the regular line (not self check out) this time. Wait my turn, let the man know I waited so I could ask if he can sign me up for the rewards. This has always been a favorite place to stop on the way to Truckee to shop and get something from the deli. Last 2 visits were not great. Today I ordered 2 sandwiches. Orders were on separate forms and were for very different items. Mine was fine but my husbands order ended up being identical to mine and for him was inedible - with several ingredients he can't eat. Had we removed all he can't eat he would have been left with tomatoes. Beyond thr fact that our order was wrong (second time this has happened ) the cost was $17.9@ a sandwich. Neither had meat. Overall a very nice grocery store. They had a good selection of string cheese and packaged candies. Milk was nowhere near its expiration date. It was a broken bottle on aisle 9, I reported it, and it was promptly cleaned up. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful in locating sports drinks. I have tried to give this store a chance but today is my last one. I stopped for a few items before I continue 20 miles to home. I wanted Romaine lettuce out, non fat milk (fat free) 1 gallons- out. I keep saying I will stop shopping at Raleys in Auburn since they've discontinued about 10 items I used to buy over the last year or so. I've put up with that since Raley's is the closest large grocery store near me (about 14 miles away). Now I have another reason. This is the second time I've purchased apples (Golden Delicious) that turn out to be so old I had to throw them away. Mealy doesn't do justice to the texture. They were terrible. Awesome experience. Very friendly and great worker. Had three sandwiches made efficiently. Also order some coffee from Peets coffee bar. Friendly barista and drink actually tasted right. This Raleys location is conveniently located, has ample parking and is a recently remodeled store. I was impressed with how clean the floors and the bathrooms were kept. A pet peeve of mine is how clean the store is kept reflex's how clean their produce are kept. Customer service was friendly and helpful. The clerks here are wonderful people. I'm writing because in the past few months I've increasingly noticed some customers wearing their masks beneath their noses. Two days ago there were at least three customers shopping sans masks. The security person at the door was nonexistent. And the sanitizer wipes were empty. What happened Raley's? Please recognize that we are in a pandemic. Take care of your employees and your customers. This is the closest grocery store to my house, but even if it wasn't, I would shop there. Friendly staff and I love their $5 mondays. They even have grocery delivery now!! The checkers know me by name and in every department the staff is always friendly and helpful! First, I'll start by saying that I shop in this store at least 1-2 times a week. That said, I am very comfortable with the layout if the store, as well as with the employees. John, the manager, is a wonderful and attentive man. He clearly has pride in his store, and that attitude reflects in the professionalism of his employees. One of the supervisors (a small and pretty dark haired lady-shame on me for not knowing her name) has always been remarkably helpful. I just got back from the store, not 10 minutes ago, and told my boyfriend Adam about the amazing customer service I received. I'd realized that I had forgotten some items during our visit earlier in the afternoon. When I called, the gentleman who assisted assured me that I would be compensated for my misplaced items. I went back to the store sheepishly...I was certain the mistake was my own. After a bit, we realized that my bag of groceries had been inadvertently placed with the e-cart items. Whoops! Likely my own fault, but the staff was so apologetic and forgiving that I left the store with a smile. I will be the first to admit that my family is on an incredibly limited budget. But it's the attention to detail that the Raley's employees demonstrate that encourages me to budget just a tad more in our grocery allowance, not only for piece of mind, but for the feeling of worth as a customer. Pretty good selection of food, but if you're looking for more organic/healthy foods, save yourself the trouble and go to a natural/health food store. Yeah, this has a huge selection, but their "health foods" section is meager. The Raley's in Grass Valley has a MUCH better selection of health foods. Also, what is it with people wanting to talk the ear off of the teller/checker, or the teller/checker wanting to have a nice long conversation with everyone? I go to Raley's probably 3-4 times a week and it's like this nearly every time. If I'm able to go in the self checkout line, I will, but sometimes I have to go to a regular line and I swear the tellers take their sweet time talking. I know they are just being polite to the people talking to them, but sometimes, it really feels like they just don't care how long the line is or that people are trying to get somewhere. read more

Oh, how the mighty have fallen. In the 70's and 80's, Raley's used to be like Nugget. Today they are a shell of what the used to be. Understaffed, empty shelves, etc. I bought a pint of ice cream recently and thought it didn't taste normal. Sure enough, it expired 8 MONTHS AGO! Raley's sucks now. I'm a local and I love this store! Great products and great customer service. Prices are high but so is the quality. They do have regular sales where I pick up some great deals. They also have a hassle free special reward program. In addition they have a full service Peet's coffee inside. The size of the store is impressive as well.
