Warning - This veterinary clinic is NOT A 24-HOUR PET HOSPITAL! Dr. Loken will keep your animal over night, but without someone there to watch over your sick pet. Four years ago, my dog died as a result of me leaving my dog in Dr. Loken's care overnight. I had no idea when I left the clinic that my dog would be left alone. According to the California Medical Veterinary Association, there must be signs in the veterinary clinic stating that they are NOT a 24-hour clinic and your dog will be alone if left overnight.
Recently, my other dog was bitten by a rattlesnake and my husband took her to Dr. Loken (nearest vet). He had my husband wait 15 minutes to see him when there were no cars in the parking lot. He took her temperature and listened to her heart and told him yes, it was a rattlesnake bite, and it would take three days to treat her. He also said repeatedly, it would be VERY expensive and charged him for an office visit. Then he proceeded to tally up the estimated cost and did nothing else to treat her. He showed no sense of urgency or real concern for our dog. Thankfully, I called Dr. Rupert's office whom immediately instructed me where to take my dog to a 24-hour emergency pet hospital where she could be properly treated for this type of injury.
Rattlesnake bites are serious business and TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE. Sadly, our dog (family member) did not survive. However, AV Veterinary Center, the emergency hospital, did all they could to try and save her life. They treated her throughout the night. When we arrived, they greeted us in the parking lot, and helped us get her inside and started treating her immediately. They charged us a deposit upfront, then shortly after explained the expected costs good/bad scenario.
Bottom line, Dr. Loken should have never kept my husband waiting and should have instructed him to take her to a 24-HOUR EMERGENCY PET HOSPITAL. He is NOT equipped to treat serious illnesses or injuries that require 24-hour care. read more
