DO NOT GO HERE! I myself have had experiences with Dr. Loken's dismissiveness and had to switch vets. I work at a boarding facility and many of our customers would go to this vet because it's in the area. We've had 3 customer's dogs die because of dismissiveness and neglectful behavior from this vet. Our most recent fur baby loss was due to a mauling by two dogs. He had complications during recovery at home and this vet ignored his owner's calls for help and refused to offer any advice without an appointment two days later. He died of sepsis just a few days after the owners were told that he would recover. read more

Took in my 11 year old Dog Cowboy into Acton Veterinay Clinic who had a rattlesnake bite on his snout. After calling 2 24hr emergecy Vet clinics in palmdale and lancaster and being told they are not taking new clients. After reviewing my options, Dr. LOKEN Let me put down half of a deposit so he immediately started the antivenom and my dog was able to go home the next day. He gave me meds and explained what to expect. Cowboy is now recovering and is getting better daily. Not near death, but definitely in distress and needed to be seen as soon as possible. I called several vets in the area but no one could see her that day except for Dr. Loken later in the day. My first impression was the office was dark and dingy. Not impressed, but I was there to help my dog first and foremost. They took my dog in the back. A short while later the doctor came back to me explaining what "treatment" she received and then proceeded to tell me she died. WTF? Needless to say I was shocked and devastated. Now that I'm more established in the area I hear horror story after horror story about this clinic. Don't ever take your beloved pet here. read more

1 day after we moved to the Acton area our cat started coughing and overall not feeling well. I was so nervous because he hates being in the car and I didn't want to have to drive him to our old Vet and trying and New one can be scary. They were very friendly and the vet ( I forget his name) was very patient with Bubbles. He took his time and explained the situation and we got the medicine we needed and were on our way. I can't not believe this, my dog is completely healthy, I took him in for prescription flea treatment the pills that I hear good things about, they say they have them ready, I drive there 3 different times, they don't have it and they sell me something else. First a spray and then next time a topical, so I've given them $600-$700 just to prevent my dog from getting fleas. The receptionist Monique isn't trained and doesn't have answers at all, and you can't get ahold of the vet or any type of manager. Unfortunately I'm probably going to have to take them to court. I'd save your time and pay more to go somewhere else. read more

I've been go to Dr Loken since I move to Acton 1997. He has taken care of my many cats and dogs and my Foster Dogs that I fostered for rescues. He even saved the life of my terrier mix after she had gotten off the property and was attacked viciously by coyotes having her stomach, neck and throat ripped open. It really amazing that this 28 lb dog lived. He's an EXCELLENT Vet and does truly care about animals. He saved our three dogs after they ate an entire box of rat bait poison. (My hubby purchased n hid from me). He's not the best with people at all times (or women not sure about men). He's grumpier in the AM lol. SO if you are looking for a great vet that will care for your animal he's the one! read more

Yesterday, my dog was bitten by a rattlesnake on the nose. I have never been to see Dr. Loken at acton veterinarian before nor had I heard anything about Him before but I needed to rush my dog to the closest vet. They took my dog right away. My dog was kept overnight and I got her back today And she was full of energy and doing well. Dr. Loken explained everything To me about how to take care of her and answered every one of my questions. He saved her life. The staff there was wonderful as well. I didn't feel like anybody rushed me or was in patient with me when I was asking lots of questions. Fabulous veterinarian. read more

this vet mentioned to us options, and we chose the medication route. Not even an hour after leaving our cat died. If I could give 0 stars I would. Went there as an emergency because my dog swallowed something that she wasn't supposed to. Once all the treatments were done and it was time to pay, they were given my Care Credit card info to charge it. They claimed their machine was not working, and also claimed there was something wring with my card. I called Care Credit and they said everything was fine, and I had more than enough to cover the vet costs. Care Credit also said they were able to charge the card over the phone, something the vet also said they weren't able to do. My mom ended up having to pay them with emergency cash that she had since they claimed they couldn't charge the Care Credit card at all (LIES). My mom went back with the new info and they would not refund the cash and just charge the card. The receptionist or office manager Ladonna, was lazy and rude the entire process. It's a wonder they get people going back here. If I were you I'd go to another vet even if it's a further drive. Their customer service is crap and they only care about getting their money. read more

UPDATE - 5/5/2013 **** The California Veterinary Board has cited and fined Reid Loken for - Negligence:Respondent failed to provide adequate therapy for a systemic post-vaccination reaction on 7/19/2011 (animal died)-and Record Keeping as Responded failed to document complete physical exam findings, complete drug dosages, surgical procedure description and a diagnostic/assessment. He has been fined $500 and this citation and fine will remain on his record for 5 years, then will be expunged. If you want to take your pet to this vet after you read this review God help your poor pet. read more

PLEASE if you live in acton or just happen to take your pet out here, PLEASE DO NOT go to The Acton Veterinary Clinic. This is a terrible place. I have 11 2 week old doberman puppies. For the past couple days one of the puppies, Lucky, was having trouble breathing and respiratory problems. I had taken him here today because he was in and out of breathing at home so I took him here right away. As I arrived, it says that masks were required for everyone, even vaccinated people. I didn't have a mask on me since it was an emergency. I told them the problem with Lucky and they wouldn't just take him so I can go grab a mask. Mind you Lucky wasnt breathing well and needed help right away. I come back minutes later with a mask and I keep repeating the problem and how he needed help immediately. No other customers were in there. They made me wait 20 minutes in the lobby just to see this doctor (i kept seeing the doctor talk to the assistants) and they charged me $100 for an EMERGENCY since I didn't make an appointment but yet i waited 20 minutes. They finally take me into the room and I wait another 20 minutes for the doctor to come in. All of the workers at this clinic knew his condition and knew how ugent it was but yet i wasn't helped for 40 minutes. In those 40 minutes, Lucky stopped breathing. He had no response to anything. I run out and tell them that i need a doctor and he isn't breathing. They say the doctor will be in right away as I see him in another door staring at me. It takes another 5 minutes just for him to come into the room and take Lucky to put him on oxygen. Later the doctor comes in and tells me that Lucky's in a coma. He isn't responding and cannot breathe on his own. He then tells me "He has a heartbeat but he hasn't been breathing for awhile so I don't think he'll make it" Maybe if the doctor came and acted like it was an emergency and cared about my puppy, maybe he wouldn't be in this condition and the doctor could've saved him. At this point, I wouldn't even consider him a vet or doctor. If only this guy did his job like he's suppose to maybe Lucky could still be alive. The 2 assistants and the doctor were very rude and uncaring. It broke my heart to watch this little puppy pass away right in front of me and these people just not help me and do their job. DO NOT ever go to Acton Veterinary Clinic. They will not treat your pets with care and they WILL scam you. This place is a joke. I would very much appreciate if this was shared. I also would like to add that I have a friend that had adopted a dog a few years back and the previous owner had said that they gave his dog a black eye and now has jaw issues. Worst place ever! Staff told me they don't take their dogs here! Went there years ago what a joke! Tried to keep my dog overnight to charge extra $$$ to remove a foxtail in Dogs leg. Had to go 3 times for this foxtail and was charged over $100 for each visit. Different meds and $50 just to wrap a bandage on his leg! Serious rip off! read more

I live very close so this place was convenient. I needed to get my dogs immunizations updated so I could get her groomed. Just a simple immunization. They recommended that she all get a kennel cough immunization, and trusting they know what they are talking about, I agreed. Within 4 days, my dog came down with a horrible case of kennel cough. She has never had it or been sick a day in her life. I had to take my dog to another vet because they were not open on Sunday when she was really sick, so I did and got her some meds. They told me it could be a reaction to the medication. I called Acton Vet clinic to discuss it with the doctor, hoping he would tell me how to help make it easier on my dog since she is REALLY sick, and potentially reimburse me for my cost for the other vet. And also to look at the possibility that their immunization is making dogs very sick. (everything I have read on the internet from other vets says do not get this, it does not work). I have requested a call from him 5 times and he refuses to return my callz and said if I come, in he will charge me full price for another visit. This is the most unprofessional encounter I have ever had with a business. And the place is very dirty. No wonder she got sick. Do not use this vet!!! read more

Dr Lokey at Acton Vet is a good substitute for Dr Ruppert at Uno Animal in Lancaster, if you have to use the vet on a Saturday. Reasonable and efficient. They did a nice rebandage job on my dog Sam, and I was very pleased. I am a fanatic that vets be reasonable in their charges and their ability to get an animal in quickly if needed. After over 10 years of bringing my dogs to Acton Veterinary Clinic, Dr. Loken failed me and my sick dog. Dr. Loken had examined my dog with a respiratory problem the week before, did blood work and had prescribed medication. Upon finishing the medication my dog's condition had severely deteriorated and I called his office to schedule a re-exam. The first possible appointment was the next day only and given my dog's condition, I decided to go to another vet who had same day availability. When I went to Dr Loken's office to pick up the blood work results (for which I paid $185) so that I could provide them to the new vet, the office staff refused to give them to me because "it takes time and requires a request and cannot be just handed out". It is noteworthy that I was called regarding the results days earlier, so the lab results were in Dr. Loken's possession. There was no reason to not give them to me there and then. Dr. Loken, who briefly stepped to the front desk over the resulting confrontation did not intervene and let his staff play office procedure politics with my dog's health and possibly life. I am appalled by Dr. Loken and his staff's unwillingness to help my dog get the best possible care. read more

All of my dogs get taken here, ever since I was a kid. They always been great to us and our dogs. Good service, prices a little steep but most vets seem to be these days. They have great personal as well. The young woman that works kind of everywhere in there is amazing, very nice and helpful. Honestly you can ask any of the employees anything and they can help or will get someone who will. Even if you need directions to another vet, seriously.
