This most recent time, we took our dog in because we couldn't get an appointment at our regular vet. They had the same day regular appointment. Our dogs face had swollen instantly. We weren't sure if it was a snake bite or a bug bite. Or something with salivary gland. First and foremost, the girl at the desk was quite rude. Not the type of person you would want on your front lines of customer service. They did all the proper steps except for not doing a blood smear test to test for venom. The doctor kept saying this is what she thought it was, but she was not doing the test to see if there was venom. She did do an aspiration test. Which had to get sent out so we waited for that. But unlike most vets who would treat that procedure as surgical and shave the area in which they are extracting from. They just chose to stick the needle in and extract. In the meantime, she recommended overnight hospitalization and doing the anti-venom treatment. The anti-venom treatment is not cheap, plus they wanted to charge us almost $1000 to hold her in a facility overnight, where there was no staff. The specific line item for staff was $500. And there was no one there overnight only one check in at midnight. This is robbery. There are really great options in the area, but this is not it. I've learned from one of the other vets in the area that the number one mission for a veterinarian is to be of service. That is not this place. We see so much price gouging from various businesses like this. There are much better options in terms of customer service, fairness of pricing and treatment recommendations, and professionalism. I went and got a second opinion and then saw my regular vet. It's also nice to work with places who will instantly send you the medical paperwork via email and stay in communication with you via text. You don't get that at pet check engine. I do not recommend.

I assumed this would fall under a recheck, but instead we were charged $75 for the exam (not even the usual $45), and the total visit ended up costing over $200. After already spending over $1,000 on the surgery, this felt excessive and honestly like we were being taken advantage of. Situations like this should be handled with more understanding and consideration--especially when it's related to a recent procedure they performed. To make matters worse, our regular doctor wasn't there (on vacation), and we were seen by a temporary vet, which made the experience feel even less personal. I still appreciate the kindness of the staff, but this experience left a bad impression. It shouldn't feel like it's all about the money, especially when clients are already investing so much in their pet's care.

When I first brought my dog in, the veterinarian--a blonde woman--spent only a couple of minutes examining him before asking me what was wrong. She didn't even notice his hernia, and after listening to his heart with a stethoscope, she never mentioned that he had a heart murmur. I left with no real answers as to why my dog had stopped eating, other than being told he needed surgery immediately, with an estimated cost of over $6,000. Later that same week, I returned because my dog was clearly in pain and I was simply hoping to get him some pain medication. This time I saw a different veterinarian, a man, and the very first thing he said after listening to my dog's heart was, "Your dog has a very significant heart murmur." How is it possible that two veterinarians at the same clinic, only days apart, could have such completely different findings? I was devastated. I was crying, and the staff assured me they would make things right and that someone would contact me to discuss what had happened. No one ever followed up. In the end, I took my dog to a veterinarian in Santa Clarita whom I trust, and I wish I had gone there from the beginning. Withholding medical records that a client has paid for--especially when dealing with a critically ill pet--is unprofessional and deeply disappointing. We trusted AV Animal Hospital with Goldie's care, but their complete lack of follow-through and communication during a stressful time is completely unacceptable. Front desk was friendly while checking me in and let me know I could wait outside (plenty of seating) or in the car. There is no waiting in the lobby, which was no problem for me. The tech took detailed info about my pet and what happened, and the doctor came in to examine not long after. He explained the current situation and what to look out for over the next few weeks. Tech gave me the estimate for procedures and medication which were straightforward and the same as quoted over the phone (also the most affordable I've seen in the AV). There was a longer wait for xray and to check out, but a pet with a bigger emergency came in and needed priority help. If my pet was having a bigger emergency, I would hope for the same care and urgency, so I understand waiting and I'm glad that it means my cat's situation was not as extreme. Some of the other reviews were very negative, but I had a good experience with everyone who helped me, and I would bring my pets here again.
