I have been to this place many times for my 2 kitties and there was never anything negative I experienced. The front desk was always friendly and polite, the wait times were short or of reasonable length with plenty of places to sit, the checkup rooms were clean and the doctors were friendly and knew their stuff. Sadly service and quality declined. Dr Chema wasn't there daily and their days and hours reduced making it virtually impossible to schedule appointments. I had a horrible experience in 2020 with a dog I was concerned about due to pink discharge from his stomach via his esophagus. This was during Covid so they came to my car and I spoke to Dr Chema by phone only. Chest X-Rays were done and Dr Chema diagnosed as "gas" and sold me 2 cases os sensitive stomach canned food. Sent me home with the digital X-Rays and advised if any problems to take him to the emergency vet as they were closing soon. 5 hours later at the emergency vet he was euthanized as he went into shock. He was bloating. The ER vet said the X-Rays clearly showed he was bloating and Chema should have either done or recommended emergency surgery immediately. Later when I mentioned his euthanasia to Dr Chema he told me that he mentioned "bloating " to me. I am an excellent historian ~ he never used the word bloat, only that my dog had a lot of gas in his stomach. I asked if my dog was bloating why sell me 2 cases of sensitive stomach canned food then? Duh. Perhaps my dog couldn't have been saved but he didn't deserve to die a slow, painful death due to this vets negligence. Shortly afterwards I moved all my animals. This place should never be allowed to treat animals , I brought my cat in that had been attacked and had a couple puncture wounds on 9/11/24 at which point they let us view a quick estimate and we left the cat to be fixed up they stitched him up put the wrong size cone on Maxx my cat .the vet put wrong size 10 on so as soon as the cat got home he started licking the wound first mistake then apparently they stitched him up improperly because it start opening up like crazy. I took him back on Friday the other lady veterinarian didn't do Jack Dilly squat ,she sent me home with SSD cream" which is an antibacterial fungal burn cream that is not going to close a gaping wound last I f****** checked . I had to race the cat down to greater good Veterinarian Service to the tune of $2,600 plus medication to do the job right which they put a number 12.5 cone on now he can't lick the wound they stitched it up much better it has not opened up Sears veterinarian is completely inept it's wonder the cat didn't get sepsis. previously they canceled two of my dogs appointments he had so they're overbooked understaffed the veterinarian looked overworked and rushed she explained there was two things she could do but she elected to do nothing that's called a nothing Burger. I wouldn't take a dead animal to this place they've been purchased by a corporation no freaking surprise there the previous owner Sears would be rolling over in his grave probably if you knew how this place was run. Took my dog in and a sample of urine as I was suspecting he had a really bad uti. The doctor looked him over and it seemed like she was just trying to find something wrong with him. Even though he's 8 he's very healthy (thank god) and nothings been wrong with him. She tells me we need to do blood work which is almost 500. And then tells me if anything happens til we get the results take him to urgent care. And that he may not be ok by the time we get the results back. And she finally offered the antibiotics for him. I gave him all the medicine and didnt get the lab work .. its been well over a few weeks now and after he finished the 7 days of medicine his urine has been ok and no further issues and he's still alive doing great. To have a vet try and scare you when there wasnt any other problems happening with the dog just the urine is completely horrible and I wont be going back ever again!!! read more

Today I write this with a heavy Sad heart. I had to put my baby Sasha down today. As this was a tough decision EVERYONE was nice and compassionate. They let my husband and I be with her considering their covid guidelines. She went peacefully and we had no issues. The place is always clean and staff is always comforting. We just went through a horrible nightmare and had to say goodbye to our Waffles after 12 great years with him. My husband and I have never met the current Sears Veterinary Hospital staff in person (Waffles stayed with my parents in the AV - we currently live on the East coast); however, Dr. Cheema and the veterinary technician, Kimberly, have been nothing but kind, patient, and thorough in answering all of our questions and keeping us updated. Dr. Cheema took the time to discuss everything with both my husband and my father (multiple phone calls, PST and EST). He was sensitive about delivering hard news with the time difference and was straightforward with my husband about Waffles' diagnosis and prognosis. They were very transparent and honest about costs for tests, procedures, etc. Words can't begin to describe how much it hurts losing a beloved dog. It helps the grieving process knowing he was seen by compassionate practitioners in his last days though. read more

So.. this is going to be long.. I have an 8 year old Basset Hound that has been a medical challenge since she was a pup. She came from a rescue, where she had been surrendered by a breeder because she has a bad leg. She has horrible allergies, sheds like crazy, prone to ear infections, she's HUGE, hates her nails clipped, has arthritis, and in general, is the sweetest mess you've ever met. A month ago, she once again hurt her leg at 3 in the afternoon and our regular vet couldn't fit her in that day. She was in pain, I wasn't going to wait until the next day, so I turned to Yelp to find someone that could take her immediately without waiting for the emergency vet to take walk ins at 6:30. My first phone call, based on the ratings, was to Sears. I was a little hesitant at first because it's a tiny vet practice in a shady area, but boy am I glad I listened to Yelp. Now, it's been a month, and 3 visits total, to see Dr. Cheema, and the change in Sophie is amazing. Not only did he fix her issue in the moment, but for the first time in years her allergies are under control, she has no inflammation in her leg, her blood work is NORMAL, she's shedding less, and she's playing like a puppy with her pup siblings. Plus, they are very reasonably priced, go over their recommendations completely, and give you treatment options with your budget in mind. Dr. Cheema calls you personally to go over test results, and is completely unrushed and answers all your questions. I'm a believer. Thanks Yelpers! I hardly write yelp reviews but when it's bad I have too. I went today with my best friends Siberian Husky to check up on her since she just adopted her. Just for the visit was $59 waited 30 mins and then told us the packages we need to get for her dog, they literally pushed us to do PCR work($152), all four X-Rays ($270), ($50) to just shave her to check her skin condition, blood work ($162), and for her med($49), the exam felt so rushed and brought some guy to tell us how much it will come out too, which was $976 something, I told my best friend to not get the skin cleanup and the X-ray but they persisted to get all the x-rays and I told them that were struggling with money at the moment and our limit is under $500, he leaves and changes the prices removing the visit cost and instead of 4 xrays told us to do the 2 X-ray at least , we tried to remove many off the list but they kept telling us the dog needs them all and wasn't clearly understanding that we can't afford it. We finally got everything fixed and they had to make us come back an hour to pick her up, an hour passed they never called us back so we came back and they made us pay and then brought her out (hostageeee) the x rays found out she has bronchitis and they made us pay more for the meds for that and now we have to wait for her results tomorrow. They didn't really help out cause she was backward sneezjng and they said to let her do that. They so ripped us off with the meds even though they knew we were struggling already, it all came out to $495.94 even though we had a limit of $500, they took ALL our money that we had. My husband was very impressed with the care and time Dr Cheema and his team took with our two dogs on their appointment 05/30/15. Last time I took off a star because they looked like they had just been robbed, when you walked into the lobby. This time, it was all nice and neat, so I'm thinking they probably we robbed or something of the sort. The front desk nurses are always really nice, and the wait time isn't bad, WAY less then what I wait when I'm visiting my own doctor. One of our dogs needed lab work done, and its nice that they do that service there. The staff is really knowledgeable and my husband and I felt safe with the decisions that are made. I made an appointment for my dog who was having stomach issues and told them I thought it was Giardia as he had been exposed to a dog who was positive. They told us to come in at 4:30, so we left work early to make it there in time. When we got there they said they need to get a stool sample in order to test him. Well my dog didn't need to go to the bathroom during the visit, he went before we got there. Therefore he couldn't get the test done that night and we have to wait until tomorrow to drop off a stool sample and then possibly wait another day to get results. I really wish they could have mentioned what was going to be required before we arrived so we could have been prepared and maybe have brought a sample with us or not let him have gone to the bathroom before. It was a wasted trip and waste leaving work early. read more

Please do not take your pets to this place, they are so cold and lack of empathy is disgusting. Dr. Chandler is so cold in her personality and towards our pet as well. We took our cat in on Dec 27th, 2018 for a gland to be expressed, which she did and told us it was the worst she ever seen and it was like popping a really bad zit, we took her back once a week, at times she just looked and said see you in another week, since our cat was put in a cone she had to wear, then she gave us a cream that made it worst and wasn't healing so we then saw Dr Cheema, his first look, he told us it was a tumor, this was news to us that Dr Chandler missed for weeks, so they took bloodwork and it came back cancer and was spreading so fast and getting bigger, so we had to put her to sleep on Jan 21st, 2019 and after spending $1600.00 dollars. The day we were putting her to sleep, they man handle her even know she was supposed to be wrapped in a towel, if you know cats this just makes them feel better and easy to handle, the tech picked her up like a sack of potatoes and took her back to get the IV started, which we heard her crying, they came back and told us they had to sedate her and now we have to go into another room, which was a cold surgical room where she was on her side with a mask over her face and her tongue hanging out which we were never told this, and the mask could not come off. They then removed it for a few seconds cause we were so upset and then they put it back on cause they didn't know how she would react, then we were rushed into the procedure to put her to sleep, they kept asking are we ready. After myself and my family are crying our eyes out, we still had to pay and walk into the waiting area in front of other people and pay $259 for a flimsy tin can that would contain the ashes. We got our beloved cat back in a zip lock bag with tape on it and some little flower thing! She was squished/folded cause she didn't even fit in this tiny tin can, she was a small cat. We had a another cat put down 6 yrs ago and for $30 more (back then we got a beautiful box, paw print, a heart with his name and certificate) all from Smith's, and the staff was so warn, patient and understanding and walked us through everything. After spending over $1600 in less than a month this is my heartbreaking story of a disgusting place that is so cold and showed no empathy towards us nor our beloved furry family member. Please do not use this place, if you love your pet. We are all devastated and heartbroken of the lack of care and treatment. I am ridded with guilt that I didn't not take her to Smith's, but at the time it happened so fast and I thought no one could be like this or that this was how it was going to go. I am advising all my friends to not use this place and in doing so I am hearing of their horror stories as well from this place! shame on you! read more

A few years back, I was recommended to Sears from a friend. My mini poodle, Jack, had been regularly seeing another local vet for checkups, dental work, shots and a cough he had for years. That vet prescribed Benadryl for the cough and insisted that was the only thing wrong. Well, the cough got worse and Jack was my baby and even though he was 11, I had raised him from 5 weeks old. Dr. Cheema was a godsend! He found out Jack had a collapsed trachea and other ailments from old age and immediately started treating him. The odds were against Jack but with Dr. Cheema's care, he lived on for years to come. Late last year, we moved out of state and we knew it was going to be hard on Jack. Dr. Cheema saw Jack one last time and gave us great advice. It was hard leaving his practice because he's such a compassionate, knowledgeable vet. Jack passed away within 2 months of our move at almost 16 years old. I truly believe Dr. Cheema prolonged his life and we were blessed to have that time together. He understood our concerns as owners and Jack's needs and always advised us appropriately. Dr. Cheema truly cares for his patients and his patients' parents. I believe he's the BEST vet in the AV and I can't thank him enough for taking such great care of Jack! I have to add that his staff is absolutely wonderful! They're just as kind and professional as Dr. Cheema. They assist him well and help guide you through the treatments, expenses, etc. You always feel welcome and listened to. Sears Veterinary Hospital is an absolutely amazing facility.  Finding a good doctor is not easy. When my cat was unable to walk after she had gotten out, I got really scared. I called other vets but no body could take me in.  Even though I came in first thing in the morning without an appointment, they got me in right away. The staff was  comforting, knowledgeable, and helpful. I came here today for the first time. I moved here from the San Fernando valley and my dog was throwing up. My go to is yelp, they were rated the best, so I called. $35 for an office visit is great! Went in, the Dr saw my dog and gave me some treatment options. I got a take home antibiotic, fluid shot, anti vomit shot, complete blood work panel, gastro intestinal dog food.. all for a reasonable price. Don't get me wrong, owning a pet is expensive, but a reasonably priced vet goes a long way. The staff was super nice, and the Dr was nice as well. He came out to talk to me three times, even though we were done, to explain my options and medications. I was very pleased. I will be back. This will be my family's veterinarian from now on! My pooch started yelping the day after Easter in the middle of the night. I got him in to Sears V H the next day and we confirmed that he did have foxtails in his ears. They took him in immediately under sedation and removed them. Dr Cheema placed him on antibiotics and he recovered quickly. Thankful for the prompt appointment & friendly staff. I'm a customer of North Valley Veterinary Clinic... but Papaya, my ChiYorkie got really ill and started throwing up blood and pooping watery stools with blood over the weekend. North Valley was closed on Saturday so my sister took my dog to Sears while I was at work and my sis said they were so great and concerned about Papaya. They fluid bolused her to rehydrate her and sent her home with meds and did the appropriate blood work. Turns out shes too fat and had pancreatitis which can be life threatening. I went to her follow up and was very impressed with front office staff, vet techs, but most of all Dr. Cheema. Man he really cares about dogs. Whenever I have an emergency on a weekend I know I can come here. I'm still happy with North Valley but I also recommend this place. read more
