I try to go here almost every time I'm in Mobile. Great bar food (especially the pretzels) and the bartender knows his beers. Best beer list in the area, open late, well lit area around for parking on the street, huge tvs. Ask the bartender to tell you about the beers before just ordering one. I always get a flight so I can try more. They're are plenty of beers on draft here that I hardly see anywhere else in the state if at all. read more

Very disappointed. Was in town for a concert (drove 11 hours from Miami, FL) and this place was right across from the hotel and figured we'd check it out. Took them between 45 minutes to an hour for getting our food to the table. We ordered a pretzel pizza and got a regular flatbread pizza. We also ordered a Veggie burger and got a Mac and cheese burger?!? Also, took another 20 minutes from when the ENTREE got here, to bring us out the APPETIZER. Went to the location in Cottage Hill and it took more then and hour for our party to get our food. We were a party of 8 but it was 2 o'clock on a Saturday afternoon and very few others were there. Our server was just bad, she had her mask below her nose and she had zero people skills. The food was horrifically bad. Burgers were over cooked, fries were cold and the pretzel bites were swimming in grease! I personally tried the jagerschnitzel and it was completely unseasoned, the potato salad was mayonnaise based not German at all and the purple cabbage was so sweet it was inedible. We stopped here along our road trip to NOLA. It's a fun dive-y bar stop right in downtown Mobile. The servers were great and so was the food. I've been coming to Loda Bier Garten for over 5 years but today will be the last day. As a fellow service industry worker for over 10 years I have to say that service is not their forte. My girlfriend did not like her nachos and the server was quick to let me know that they do not comp food based upon the guests taste (their policy). I shrugged it off and told him I didn't mind paying for the nachos but what really disturbed me was the fact that he came back to the table to assure me that his kitchen staff and dishwasher loved the nachos and would be finishing them for us. I am a kitchen manager and would NEVER let my staff eat off of a guests plate. The GUESTS keep your doors open. You are in the SERVICE industry, you should act like it. If it wasn't for the great location of this sorry establishment I doubt it would still be open based upon the other reviews I have read and the service and food quality we experienced tonight. Great selection of beer and phenomenal service. Haygen was our server and she gave wonderful suggestions on food and beer. We were thrilled with our food. I had the buffalo chicken sandwich and avocado on it. Delicious! The Alltech Lexington Brewing Kentucky Vanilla Barrel Cream Ale was also very good. read more

I and some friends came in around 1:00am after a heavy Friday night of bar hopping. It had a fun atmosphere but was pretty crowded; and one of the waitresses directed us up stairs, where one bartender was taking care of the entire room and the bar. I was in Mobile for a job interview, day after Mardi Gras, ran into the place completely by accident. My first impression was that this place 'frighten beer mecca'. The lunch crowd was in full swing, but I managed to find a place at the bar -and I ordered a local brew that the bartender lady recommended a 'Haint Blue Porter' which was excellent. I forget what I ordered -some awesome sounding pineapple teriyaki/jalapeño burger. And that was about the high point of my experience. So as I waited, actually texting my friends about how awesome the place was and how we should road trip to mobile -just for this bar, the lunch crowd tricked out. Thirty minutes passed, my beer half empty -and the bar was relatively empty. Still no food, the bartender lady didn't seem concerned and the cook behind the bar seemed content muttering to himself while while listening to his earbuds. No big deal, I'll just enjoy my beer. Better part of an hour passed. At that point I realized my parking was about to expire so I needed to leave. At the point where I fished out my card, was the only time the bartender came up to me, to explain the wait. I wasn't rude, and simply told her 'never mind' and 'I'll just pay for my beer'. Lady didn't even skip a beat, handed me the tab as if she wanted me to leave. I used to be a bartender back when in my college days -and I would at least try show a customer that I cared about getting their order to them -even if it wasn't my fault. End of story. Now this is my first yelp review thing, and I'm not going I be one of those nitpicking, snotty people who complain that 'bar fries were soggy' or 'the waitress wasn't nice enough'. Simply put this place seemed cool, and maybe I just caught it at a bad time or with a bad staff. But an hour for a burger and fries -especially when the crowd has died down and there's barely anyone left there. I'll let you decide how awesome a place like that is. read more

Great burgers! They also have a great vegetarian burger. It's a half pounder black bean that is breaded and fried. The veggies in our party loved them. The other meat eaters loved the half pound hamburgers. So good and fresh. They get the meat from a local source. Toppings are well thought out and fresh. It's a no frills bar and doesn't have a tremendous amount of space inside. The music was a little too loud (When did I get old?) and the wait staff seemed to be a bit stretched out. Initially I was excited to try this place out. Any time I would walk or drive by, it just seemed like the place to be. I figured good and service must be great...not so. My first experience, my gf and I dined in. We made it past the slick floors downstairs to the upper dining area. We were met by a young lady who introduced herself as our waitress for the night. We requested water to start, my gf ordered a grapefruit radler (which is on the menu,) for her main drink. Our waitress said "I'm Not even sure why that's on the menu, because we don't have it." She didn't ask or check, so we took her word for it. We then made our food orders. 20 Minutes I ti the wait, our waitress came back to tell us she didn't know what happened with our order, "it must have gotten lost" and she would need to take it down again. I ordered the Mac attack burger-a deep fried macaronii patty on a burger-the food came a little quicker this time but my Mac n cheese wasn't as described on the menu. After waiting so long for food I didn't bother to complain. I just wanted to enjoy my date. A few weeks go by and I decide to give this place a second chance. We meet our waiter, and my gf requests a grapefruit radler yet again, to see the response she'd get. The waiter did he was on it. Once the drinks came we were both in shock that he found the illusive radler...until she had a sip and it was a peach rancher. Not at all what she ordered but it tasted good, so she let it slide. She ordered a steak sandwich and I decided to go with the sugar rush. Food came out in decent time . Once we dug in we weren't too impressed. Both of our meals were missing key ingredients/parts listed on the menu. Not to mention the stale glazed donuts of my burger. Overall the food tasted great, but there seems to be no concern for serving the correct orders or maybe it's lack of accountability . Needless to say, I won't be dining here again. Dine at restaurant last nite for the 1st time and I recommend spending your money elsewhere. Service was Horrible/ Management was unconcerned about my issues. Summary of Events: 1) Didn't have 2 of the beers I requested. Finally made a selection that was on tap and waitress brought it out in a can with no glass. ( No big deal) 2) Ordered the Van Antwerp salad...Was told salads are off limits because they don't have lettuces. Delivery truck comes on Tuesdays! 3) Ordered the Dirty Bird Chicken Sandwich ( which came with lettuce) charged extra for grilled instead of fried chicken. Chose broccoli and cheese as my side item. Broccoli under cooked. Asked for another one with no cheese and was charged for it. 4) Charged $2.35 for paying with my credit card.Management explanation " There's a sign on the door ( tucked away by other materials. Undoubtedly designed this way so customers can overlook this communication) that states we charge a fee. It's not Lodi policy,it's your bank who charges the extra fees. But in the same sentence he said restaurants have discretion to charge or not charge. Basically one lie after another. Conclusion: I've dine in several establishments in downtown Mobile. Lodi is the 1st restaurant I've encountered that charges its patrons a fee for using a credit card. Maybe I would've looked the other way if the service and manager conduct was courteous and professional. In addition, 3 out of the 5 items ordered wasn't available. Who runs out of lettuces with 8 salads advertised on the menu. Very bad for business! Came in for lunch. We were seated right away and ordered drinks. Took a long time to get the drinks (just got cokes). Another server brought the drinks & said our server would be right over. Waited a long time again to place our order. Finally got the order in and I ordered the southwest egg rolls. My wife got a salad and fried brie. The food is awesome! Tasted amazing and prepared very well! Would have given 5 stars if not for the service. The wait staff is super friendly but just not efficient I suppose. On a side note restroom had no soap. She says, it's coming right up. 10 minutes later she brings the food..... it is BURNED! Like black little nuggets. So we were there for 2 hours and I never ate dinner. Today will be the last time I come back to eat or drink here. The staff has always been friendly and courteous. The food is not the best, but not the worst either. They also have a huge selection of beer to choose from, which I like. The issue is their food and drinks are way over priced. A Reuben sandwich was 13.00 and a single mixed drink was 7.50. On Sundays, the beer is 50% off. Now I am sure they are still making a decent profit. So that gives an idea of their markup on food and beverage But today for the first time, I noticed that they add a 3.25% adjustment to the check if you use a card. I am not even a business owner, but come on! Do you know how many people will see this charge and decide not to come back. Bottom line, be careful on what you order, you can very quickly run up a large bill. read more
