My wife got her cake and I waited and waited for my pretzel. When I finally was able to get our waitresses attention to ask where it was I was told it was frozen and they had to wait for it to thaw. On Tuesday, January 15th, I visited this restaurant. It was my first time there and I actually enjoyed it. My food was great, the customer service was fantastic but the water was nasty! I have never drank water that taste that bad. I don't know what flavor water that was or where they got it from but it was horrible. I'm use to tap water but listen, it was worse than that! I really enjoyed my burger though and the bread pudding was everything, they just have nasty water that leave a bad after taste! Oh, they add 3% to your bill if you don't use cash! This is a great place. Nice outdoor seating, good beer selection and really yummy appetizers. Had the pretzel and beer cheese, artichoke dip, and fried dumplings. On a suggestion to try this place by a fellow restauranteur, we stopped in before visiting the USS Alabama. LoDa is in the middle of downtown Mobile. A very pleasant quiet clean , almost Bizarro area that resembles the French Quarter/ Beale Street. On a Sunday afternoon when we went, the people in the vicinity reminds you of bohemians and people from Steel Magnolias. Shelby! Inside it was a very interesting looking place. Alot to look at. Cool decorations and bam!! Lots of beer choices! That is what gives this place 4 stars. Lotsa of beers that I haven't had before. Problem was I wasn't here to drink. So I limited myself to one local watermelon brew. Yummy. Our server was obviously suffering from the worlds worst hangover. She made very little eye contact because she was squinting so bad. But she listened and got our orders right, though we had to ask for silverware and plates. She was hurting I tell ya! No harm no foul. My date went for the buffalo chick sandwich and I chose the meatloaf sandwich. Both were yummy. No complaints on the food. We had the onion rings as an app. They were ok. Not the skinny types we prefer. There is a challenge burger here to eat that had us laughing. Something like 4 patties and a shit ton of ingredients that can land you on the wall for finishing it. If you don't its $35. There is also a burger called the Sugar Rush. Its made using donuts. IIIiimmmm not sure I will do that unless I am super tore up. Never say never right? the menu seems to have something for everyone. Mexican, burgers and German inspired foods like brats, schnitzels and pretzels. If you like greasy bar food with a beer, than this is the place! We started off with Shroomz (tasty) Fried Pickles and we wanted a pretzel but they were out.. (the theme to our order) We ordered a Cobb Salad and a couple of burgers. I wanted the Seared Tuna BLT, but they were out.. so I ordered the Jagerschnitzel, this is how it was decribed on the menu: Pork loin, pounded thin and fried in panko bread crumbs. Served with our German potato salad and braised red cabbage. This one is topped with a mushroom, bacon demi-glace. So the pork loin was fried in panko crumbs, not sure what kind of potato salad it was, but not German. They had no braised red cabbage and said it came with mac & cheese. Ok, how can you screw up Mac & Cheese? They can.... Elbow macaroni drenched in a tasteless yellow sauce, not sure how much cheese was in it. As for it being topped off with a mushroom, bacon demi-glace, that was no where on my plate. Which I wished they had put it on there to make the dried out pork easier to swallow. This place is great for people watching, a very eclectic group. Its not the cleanest place either. I went here after hearing from a few people that this place was one I needed to make sure I checked out. They have 102 beers on tap and 99 in bottles. The food menu seemed to be good as I was glancing it over. Problem #1 of the night was the service. It seemed like anything I asked her was a huge bother. She finally brought us our beers and we asked a couple of questions about the menu. It was almost like she didn't know and would be too much trouble to find out, so she made up something. 25 min into this adventure I'm very aggravated with the servers performance and it was time to go. Honestly the only thing I can say about this place is the fried pickles. Yes, they have an extensive draft list which is great, but the service experience was so horrendous that I would rather drink beer off the pavement then have to go back because I'm that case I would at least get a beverage. I went here on opening night so problems were expected. "slow service" and didn't have a beer list.. the food was mediocre, we had the burger, and the veggie burger. We wanted to try the FIRST Loda Bier Garden in downtown Mobile. The atmosphere is very friendly. Right when you walk in, you are greeted by the people behind the bar. We sat ourselves and immediately we were given menus and draft list menu. The staff are friendly, but our waitress made the impressions she didn't want us to be there. We ordered the sugar rush burger, a Hugh Jass waffle burger, the Loda burger and the buffalo bird chicken sandwich. The meal exceeded our exceptions. I can't deny anything below four stars to a place that has delicious...pretzels. That's right. I can deny myself all the bread, French fries, and tortilla wraps for years, but put a hot soft pretzel in front of me, and I can make it vanish faster than a magician's hat. Funny enough, the regular soft pretzel was more tasty and rich and the jalapeno pretzel. Both options come with hot nacho cheese. The beer options are good. The second floor makes this bar more personal as you can be away from the noise but also look over the balcony to see the action below. Our bartender-waiter was awesome with beer recommendations and just talking to us when he had nothing else to do. We ended up talking about music interests and diversity for the evening. read more

I had a beer cheese pretzel that went perfect with my flight of beers. There is 102 beers on the menu. It took a while for me to figure out what I wanted. The tunaverse was ok. It probably would have been better if it was brought out after the appetizer. The broccoli with beer cheese was very good. I ate it FIRST and it was worth it! Food service worker here, going on my third week of being out of work due to Covid19. Still no unemployment... Got a free burger from them today as their thank you to everyone who works in the industry. I had my four year old with me when I picked it up and they gave my son a burger too. It's hard to explain how much this means to us. I haven't been in the Bier Garten in quite some time. A group of us settled in on one of the tables outside one afternoon after the Duck Boat Tour. It was a great time! Service was little slow, but we were in no hurry. This is a premiere people-watching location. The menu is quite extensive and it is mainly typical bar food items. What we ate was really pretty yummy and went perfectly with the location, situation and jovial moods. The burgers are quite good and really are a meal for two. The nachos and the seared tuna salad were the biggest hits. Slivers of red onion and a killer dressing placed the tuna salad on my "must-have" list. The clientele was all over the board in all ways. Some looked to be just off of work in the area. A few looked like out-of-towners. It was just a good mix of different people and not the courtroom-hallway feeling some other places have at that hour of the week. Loda will forever be one of my favorite places to go in Mobile. The beer selection is amazing, the atmosphere (both inside & outside) is unmatched, and the food is good every time. My recommendations: Mama's pretzel (mini pretzel stuffed with cheese & bratwurst, with a side of Abita Amber beer cheese), the Pretzel Pizza, Sugar Rush burger (bacon, cheese, Abita Root Beer BBQ sauce, etc. - all between two Sugar Rush donuts) and, of course, all paired with beer. Another really cool thing about this place is that a lot of the menu items are named after local places in Mobile, or they intertwine another local highlight into the dishes. It's such a unique spot in so many ways. Definitely worth trying out for lunch, dinner, an afternoon snack or beer(s), a late night snack or beer(s), etc. Live music on the weekends makes it a chill hangout spot with friends, but can get a little loud inside because of that. I ordered the Duval Trappist beer in a bottle from Belgium which I've had many times and the bottle that I received was way old and I'm sure past it's drinkable date. I drank it but wasn't happy. This was our first visit to Mobile, and I was in the mood for German food (not sure why). So we checked this place out. Well, despite "Bier Garten" being part of its moniker, there is only one German entree on the menu - Jagerschnitzel - so I ordered it. Oh dear, where do I begin? Should I start with the fact that we waited 45 mins before requesting that they cancel our order since nothing - not even the appetizer arrived? No, let's start with what was ordered and specify that it was about 10:30p on Sat night and the place was 70% full... What was ordered? Pretzel Pizza, Veggie Burger, and Nachos. At almost 1 hour in waiting, we got a Flatbread pizza (not the pretzel one we ordered) since they ran out of pretzel dough and didn't let us know. Also, the burger arrived, but instead of veggie burger a patty made of fried Mac 'n cheese was used. Since we were starving we decided to eat it anyways but it was cold :/ The nachos came out at about 1 hour and 20-ish minutes - after the food mind you - and they were alright, but drenched in sour cream. In closing, we were there about 2.5 hours between waiting for food, food coming out wrong or not all (we tried to exchange the veggie burger for the right thing) but after waiting for 30 extra minutes and it nowhere in sight, we had it removed from the receipt. Bottom line, the environment is cool, the waitress was nice as well and let it be known the issues we encountered were being experienced by all other patrons around us. It wasn't the waitresses fault, but more like the kitchen was not operating properly and more so, the manager wasn't on the ball with that either which is a shame because it could be a really cool place to get bar food and drinks until 2am as most places in this area close around 10-11p. Try the Phish ;) After a couple of very good beers at the bar and then whatever out back... I've never been a big Phish fan but it made the night work very well. Especially when the staff sings along. The food was great, try the pretzel bites or whatever they're called. Although I think they can BEER-UP the Abita dipping sauce, yummy none the less. I hate turkey burgers. But this turkey burger was pretty damn good. I'd order again next time I'm in town. The staff were very knowledgeable of the beers and food and very conversational.
