FYI everybody, do not under any circumstance order the mini Kalbi which I found out is not on the menu but they will make it if you order it and it will cost you over $16.00. Even if you get a free chicken plate with the coupon from the midweek don't order the mini Kalbi because what you will get is a minimum of 2 pieces of the 3 bone part with no meat below the bone or probably 3 pieces of bone part with no meat below the bones with some rice and macaroni salad. I called them about 10 minutes after I left the restaurant and talked with the manager and he told me that he knows about it and that's the way it comes that's why I was given 3 pieces instead of 2. He kept telling me that he was sorry but that's how it is and that is why they don't have it on the menu. After not getting anywhere with the subject I told him then why was I not told about what I would be receiving in my order and I would not have ordered it instead of taking over $16.00 from me and serving me scraps. So I asked him if that was the best he could do then said that I was going to write this review on yelp to save people the trouble of going through what I went through. Other than that, I will order something else like chop steak next time while using the coupon. I would give it a 1 star for this visit. My loss, their gain on this one. read more

I ordered a Regular Plate Lunch of Mochiko Chicken which includes 2 Scoops & 1 Macaroni Salad. It looked appetizing, but it stopped there. The Macaroni Salad was alright. The Chicken had a burnt taste to it and I can barely taste the crunchy, salty-sweet of the Mochiko. I love this place, but I'm dissapointed that this time around was not so satisfying. read more

Went here randomly looking for local food. Very similar to other local restuarants offering their take on local favorites. Nice interior tropics decor with a cool island vibe. Small and quaint seatings. My one staple is always the Chicken Katsu. I was expecting more of a L&L taste but was surprised that even though the cook said itʻs just a simple recipe the crispiness and cruch was fresher than other places Iʻve had it. Some are soggy and oily, otherʻs dried and burnt. One of the things I also critique is their katsu dip sauce. Definitely one of my favorites which is a good balance of sweet and savory robustness. Some places make theirs super watery and too sweet while otherʻs make it with too much worchestshire sauce and thick. Theirʻs hit my pallete just right. Combined with the crispy and tender chicken katsu it made for a really savory juicy expierence. I also ordered it as a mini-plate with toss salad just to ensure my pallete could taste the flavor over the mac salad if ordered. The amount was equivilent in price value too. All in all, yes, basic and simple chicken katsu but decent and fresh enough for me to give 4 stars. Cashier might have been new and may need improvement in social skills but will definitely return again, order this and otherʻs as well. read more

I felt like eating a katsu chicken, but saw a special of veal loco moco and gau gee. I guess they have to diversify their menu and expand. Being undecided, i ordered both. A short time later, the meal arrived & due to the pandemic, i took the food home... cannot eat inside. I Love the gau gee at the chinese restaurant and hope it would be the same. I took the first bite of the fresh hot gau gee and a rancid taste, like it was refrigerated for a while. The red sauce that came with it did not take away the bad taste... but i was hungry and did not finish it. The veal loco moco was different, very soft in texture and lots of rice. I hope it had more gravy but was ok. I should have ordered a regular hamburger loco moco instead. In the end, the meal was ok, and my expectations was too high, paying $21 for both. Maybe that's why both was on the special Menu, Go figure. read more

Grabbed take out from here. Order was ready by the time I got there. Cashier was aware of my order the moment I said I was in for pick up and recited my order to me. Very nice with a smile. Went here after Black Friday for breakfast. The eggs a little over cooked but they cook one of the best bacons! I ordered toast, sadly they don't offer jelly with their toast. The staff is nice, lots of parking available. Take out only due to covid. read more

Service was excellent and very nice! Gave us some good recommendations and landed on a Combo Plate of Kalua Pork w/ Cabbage and Mochiko Chicken and then the Bento Classic. And omg it was so SO good. Like wow. After at total of 11 hours in an airplane, it tasted like heaven. My favorite part of the Kalua Pork and Cabbage, my husband loved the Katsu. Overall it was a great experience and felt like a local favorite. Definitely stop here for some authentic food. Much love from these two Wisconsinites! At first, I was a little unsure about Loco Moco BBQ because of the dim lighting walking in but their food & service definitely made up for it! The cashiers were extremely friendly and you could tell they were happy/smiling under their masks. I was just about to order their chili when the cashier noticed my undecided face & told me about their specials of the day. I'm a sucker for anything blackened, especially ahi tuna, so I was sold the moment she said it! The blackened ahi + spicy creamy sauce had a nice kick without burning off your tongue. I was stunned by the portion size and was sad to say I threw away about a quarter of my ahi because I was jumping on a plane. They only have a couple dine-in tables because of social distancing, so be prepared to sit on the wall outside to eat. I'll enjoy a yummy meal anywhere, so I didn't mind one bit! First meal after landing on island was here. We moved from CA to HI and this was the first impression of our new town in Kapolei. The staff was so overwhelmingly friendly and courteous. And my loco Moco was off the chain. Better than Duke's for sure!! Love this little place and will be a regular. read more

This place is not the same as before. The food was horrible and expensive. The service was not friendly at all. We got there about 15 minutes till closing and when we got our food they told us they were closing and couldn't dine in. I don't recommend this place to anyone. read more

Food doesn't taste as good as before. In fact tasted lousy. Dry Teri Beef Sandwich with barely any meat. Katsu plate was also dry. They charge for complementary water. Tap water. Asked for extra napkins cause they only give ONE per utensil set. She gave me two more napkins, so 6 pieces of thin napkins for 2 regular Katsu plates, 2 burgers and fries. 6 napkins. Guess that make sense since everything was dry never need to wipe as much ‍ Customer service was dry too. read more

I wouldn't say I'm a Mac salad connoisseur but I've had many to know which ones are good. I have to say that out of all the mac salad's I've had this got to be the best one yet. Not sure what's in there but it has it be whipped mayo with sour cream (???) for that light and airy taste. I don't know but it was so good I almost finished it and I never finish Mac salads in our plate lunches lol. The ladies here are so awesome. So friendly and great customer service!! This place is Good! Hamburger patty is actually seasoned and gravy is killah! The hubby also got a Teri beef sandwich...their marinade is a little different than I'm used to, but I liked it and so did he. The dining area of this place is a little small but the ladies working were so sweet and accommodating, helping our group of 12 get seated all together. read more

Stopped by Loco Moco for a quick lunch while I was on break. The menu is HUGE. So many things to choose from! They also offer catering I believe so that's good to know for the future. Located in the Kapolei Shopping center right next to Fantastic Sams. Very small store. Walking in there are maybe 6-8 tables at most. The lighting is really dark. I think some might would really do this place justice! I went with the Spicy Meat Jin Special. I decided with this because I've never heard of "Spicy Meat Jun" so it looked interesting . Unfortunately it was regular meat Jun server with "Spicy Dipping Sauce" For $8.50 it was alright. Just wanted to give it a try. Don't know if I'd visit again. read more

Been coming here for 12 years now since I first moved to the island. This is the best loco moco on the island. Been to over a dozen other places so here's why: 1) best hamburger steak prep - excellent char on every patty and it never comes across like meatloaf which others do 2) great gravy - doesnt blow you away, but doesn't need to. there are more complex gravies on the island, but they tend to stand out too much and overpower the other ingredients 3) egg any way you want it - not much to say here, but if you order your egg 'over medium' they don't mess up 4) mac salad - yeah this mac can stand on its own but drowned in gravy oh man...yes Service has always been consistent. It isn't fast food, but it's never that long either - expect ~12 minutes. Calling in an order on your drive over is recommended if you're in a hurry. read more

I could live on the other side of the island, and I would still make the drive out during rush hour traffic to eat here! Best local plate lunches in the business, guaranteed to give you the meanest "kanak attack" with their generous servings. A wide variety menu makes it hard to decide, but everything is truly ono. Feeling something sweet? Don't leave without trying their deep fried ice creams, so satisfying and it definitely hits that sweet spot. Need a last minute order for your gathering? They've got you covered. My guests know to bring their own containers and ziplocks because they never leave my parties empty handed. The staff is absolutely amazing and wonderful! The girls are so welcoming and friendly, always quick to help or sharing their personal favorites from the menu. The owner is so personable, "always" makes sure you are taken care of. The service everyone provides here makes you feel like you are family. We love it here! read more

The customer service here is on point. You're always greeted, checked up on and always leaving with an impression of what excellent customer is. The food is always good here too, one of the few places that still make their own chili. My go to is always their chili dog plate and they always come through. Consistency is the name of the game and they have it down! read more

Went to this restaurant today because so many are not allowing dine-in customers. Looked it up on Google search and it stated that dine-in is available. Walked in and saw all the tables covered up and two tables available. Ask the girl behind the counter if we can eat in and she said no. Advised her that the city and county are 100% open for full capacity and she stated that the manager didn't want to be bothered checking vaccine cards. So we left and went to another Loco Moco restaurant a few miles away that allows you to Dine-in and eat at the tables. It took the man at the counter about 10 seconds to check the vaccine card. My only hope in writing this bad review is for the owners to realize that some restaurants are open and serving customers and others are actively turning customers away because they don't want to take a few seconds to look at a vaccine card. read more

My boyfriend was craving a Loco Moco and I decided to go and try this place out since it had Loco Moco in the name. There were plenty parking in the parking lot plaza. This was a small restaurant. They are known for catering. Their catering prices were awesome tho. We may look more into that when we host an event. As for the food, there are several options. I loved how there were different add ons to the loco mocos. My boyfriend got the onion rings loco Moco. I ended up getting mochiko chicken and bbq short ribs. The loco Moco was an interesting taste. The sauce was kind of different. It was okay! The mochiko chicken was really good tho. The bbq short ribs were also okay, they were mostly fatty and chewy. read more

I ordered the spicy dip chicken plate. The attendant stated they got the order mixed up and offered a garlic chicken plate instead. The attendant asked me to take the garlic chicken instead of what I ordered and I declined. She went back to the kitchen for a few moments and stated she would get the correct order. We enjoy picking up food here . Yet tonight was very frustrating. The menu outside the Onion rings were featured for $4.15 inside menu said $5.00 then I was charged $5.95 . I mentioned this to the cashier and he said oh well that's wrong and that's wrong no accountability. Someone need to work on their electronic menu and make sure the prices and highlighted menu items and prices are correct. Very disappointing. read more

The worst steak shrimp. Owner should be embarrassed pathetic service everyone on phone not working I said med it's over well done looks like dog food 20$ plate sad. I've never seen food this bad we gotta put on blast they gunna get people sick with poor quality cooks, and counter staff. Why would anybody eat here , I'd rather drive leeward drive in they need change hope owner sees this and corrects staff but I will never go again it was that bad look the little baby shrimp l& l is way better steak was disgusting. I'm a chef of 20 years and was so shocked a person could serve this and not feel bad. People complain mainland business ran my business out of Hawaii or being bought out Hawaii but serving food like this that's the problem I'm not here looking for refund I'm looking for change and education for Hawaii business to thrive. All these viral places and farmers markets blow up because of word of mouth it's because these place take pride want to be the best. If I were in this situation as an owner I would educate my staff and do secret shoppers to check if when I'm gone the quality of my food remains. These mistakes if not corrected will ruin the reputation of loco Moco drive inn and we will see yet another owner complain that they are priced out of Hawaii when all u needed to do was care about the food u serve. The vibes are good with live music but the music is LOUD so be prepared you have to talk pretty loud to hear the people at your table. The gluten free menu is available but it is limited. The server was fantastic about answering questions and honestly she was the best part of the meal. I ordered the edamame and shrimp fried rice my mom ordered the Caesar salad. The portions are LARGE plenty for 3-4 people to split let alone two. Caesar salad was standard and good from what my mom told me. Edamame- I probably would not order this again. It was fine, but I didn't love the seasoning blend on it personally there are other things I would be interested in trying. Shrimp fried rice- I was really excited to try this and I was really hoping that it would be excellent and it was OK. The shrimp was cooked well and the fried rice just felt like it needed some more butter and it was lacking some of the things that make fried rice, fried rice like a fried egg so overall not my favorite dish. The gluten-free menu was pretty limited on options for me to try so I would probably go to somewhere else to try and get fried rice in the future.

Of course if you plan on partying here be wary of making too much of a mess or damaging things. Kiki then helped me preorder all the food for the party, and she also assisted with the surprise. Ashley was our server for the night and she did amazing! I was bothering her and Kiki and asking them questions all night and they were so nice and patient the entire time. Everyone was so kind and accommodating, it was as if they were family friends :) the speed of service was great too. I know we put the bartenders to WERK but the drinks still came out in such a timely manner. Finally, the food and drinks were BOMB. I've only been here a couple times before this, so I got to try a lot of items i haven't before at the party. Everyone was raving about the food! So many people who haven't been to DB grill before said they found their new spot. And if you like to drink, they have something for everyone. My grandma kept asking for more soju cocktails . Parking was good, and the overall vibe was chill, though it did get a bit noisy. The biggest issue was the condition of the restaurant. The place felt pretty run down. The floors were very dirty, the seats were torn and patched with electrical tape, and the windows were so dirty that we actually thought the restaurant had shut down one day when we were walking by. The bathrooms were also pretty gross, even for a casual bar/restaurant. I wanted to like it more because the food itself was good, but the cleanliness and upkeep really took away from the experience. They definitely need to do a better job maintaining the place. I'd probably only return if I heard they had cleaned up and refreshed the entire restaurant.

Each plate was around $17 and it included rice, salad, and haupia. To me, that's still a very fair price. I had ordered online and my order was ready to go by the estimated time. The lot is extremely small and the spaces are tight so you may have to find street parking. They also have a points program so don't forget to sign up for bonuses and rewards.

Growing up in a Filipino household, I knew this dish as "caldareta." My dad would make this for me all the time. I asked for a bowl to go so I could enjoy it for dinner later. The first bite instantly sent me back to my family's home kitchen, where I would come home from school and find a pot of beef stew waiting for me.
