LOCATION: Loco Moco Drive Inn in the Kapolei Shopping Center between Fantastic Sams's and Napa Auto Parts. There is lots of free parking right in front the store and all around the shopping area. SERVICE: It was a Sunday when we ordered two regular and one mini take out plate lunches at 11:35am and received the order at 11:50am. Their signs indicate foods are cooked when ordered. The menu is listed on three monitors that appear to be very busy and confusing. TASTE: We ordered a regular size pork cutlet plate lunch, regular size hamburger steak plate lunch and mini teri plate lunch. The pork cutlet plate came with two scoops rice and macaroni salad. The pork tasted overcook, was cut up in pieces and was topped with gravy. The mini teri plate came with one scoop rice, macaroni salad and a thick slice of cabbage under the meat. Some pieces of the meat were overcooked and cold, all were topped with teri sauce. The hamburger steak was given away therefore, not able to give a rating. PRICE: The price for the regular size plate lunch is $10.00 each and $7.95 for the mini plate. Taste and price = not going back. read more

The hamburger patty was dry and tough, gravy was salty and macaroni salad had so much mayonnaise and had an off taste. Although their prices have gone up, their food quality should not go down. It's located in on of Kapolei's first strip malls. A small little place that is a bit gritty, but those are the best places to find great local food, right?! I ordered one of their meaty specials that had bbq beef, bbq chicken, and a kalbi rib. It comes with a side of mac salad and two scoops of rice. The chicken was really tender and nicely flavored. It was light and not "old" tasting like some restaurants pre-cook their food. This one tasted like it was fresh off the grill and seemingly it probably was. The kalbi ribs were just as tasty, the only drawback being that I got only one. It really left me wanting one more at least. The bbq beef wasn't too good. This one was tough, over cooked, and did seem like it had sat a bit. I also had a sample of my girlfriends mochiko chicken and it was pretty good as well. I made a mistake ordering my breakfast plate with fried rice, it was the kind of fried rice you would normally get at a chinese restaurant. Just rice with carrots, peas & celery (no meat). Then I was disappointed when I opened the wrapper to my grilled cheese sandwich was made with wheat bread :( I was never asked what type of bread I wanted, but isn't it always made with white bread. I love that the cashiers walk out your plates to you! ;) They have the same menu as any other loco moco, but not all foods are cooked the same =| Example: their garlic chicken is horrible!! I always can't seem to remember which loco moco has the better chicken and I always end up getting the garlic chicken from here forgetting that THIS is the one that's horrible! The chicken isn't really chicken! They give you pieces of fried skin soaked in garlic sauce. There is hardly any meat! And if there is meat its rubbery and hard! They might as well name this plate "crispy fried garlic chicken skin" As I sat there eating skin, I heard a lot of people ordering the garlic chicken. I enjoyed it. My teriyaki burger deluxe was juicy with the mayonnaise and tomato, onions, and lettuce on a small bun, but they gave me a lot of teriyaki and it was made to order. The food was plentiful and delicious. I was out one day and I decided to go there and grab lunch. She just put the phone down for close to a minute then picked it up and said " thanks for holding " . In reality she never asked me to hold. When I asked her what comes with the chicken special. She told me there isn't a chicken special then she started naming flavors of chicken and said u can have those. Then I asked her for future reference when u do have the 5/8 piece chicken special does it come with anything. This time she aggressively told me that they don't have a chicken special and started naming flavors of chicken again ...therefore I commenced to tell her well maybe they should look into that because DoorDash is advertising a chicken special on their menu for u . She said in a very stern manner that they don't do DoorDash and they don't have a menu on DoorDash as I tried to explain to her "yes they do" she insisted talking over me telling me that we don't have DoorDash and there's no chicken special. My FAVORITE is the manager special for breakfast! Rice, two eggs your way, choice of breakfast meat (bacon, spam, sausage), and HASH KATSU!!! Yup - a breaded and fried has patty...SO.DARN.ONO!!!!!!! I would love to post a photo but I couldn't tear myself away from finishing off that huge plate to stop and take a picture!
