    Smoked old fashion

Walking by during a weekend convention and was instantly pulled in by the ambiance. You can tell me design this place is a spectacle and educator of whiskey as well as all spirits. The bartender behind the craft, was such a cool dude and helped me navigate what I was looking to drink as well as super knowledgeable of his work. The drinks are absolutely delicious, I tried a smoked old fashioned and an espresso martini. I haven't been into whiskey in quite some time but the way the flavors complimented each other with the smoke and sweet--my pale T broke right through the ethanol and straight into the whiskey. I'm also not an espresso martini guy but goes to show how solid this place is that I thought it was insane. I'd go back (which I will) for that martini again; easily.

Came here during the week and was disappointed that they only had small plates/apps available. Otherwise, the vibe of the place and drinks were great.

My girlfriend and hubby were visiting and they are whiskey connoisseurs...so I'm search of a local whiskey bar, we stumbled upon Locked Barrel. Cute place! Never even knew it existed. Food was delicious and variety of whiskey they had to offer was great. Unfortunately my GF and her husband wasn't satisfied with the whiskey flights she had...I know nothing about whiskey so can't really comment. The food was delicious. We had the chicken wings, kettle chips and dirty tots. The service was ok, surprisingly a bit slow with barely any customers. The waiter forgot one of our beers after waiting for a long while, we went up to the bar to remind him since he never came back to check on things. But then only to find out, they didn't have the beer.

This review is for drinks only as I did not have a meal. The ambiance of this place is super unique. It appears that at the lower level there's an emptied pool, which is fun to look at. Service was quick and friendly, and the drinks were strong and well made. This spot offers a lower key, cozy vibe, that's nice to hang out in especially with it being so chilly outside

Is this the intended ambiance for your $100 whiskey pour?

I really wish this business well. But to be blunt, it doesn't know what it wants to be. It's not a speakeasy. Is it a sports bar? I'm sure it wants to be a high end whiskey place. But it's not. From the shredded, plastic peeling bar chairs to the impossible to read online menu. Maybe don't stand on the same bar surface to reach high bottles where you are preparing drinks? The food options are beef or shrimp. Maybe focus on the available high end bottle rarities? Just having a lot of bottles doesn't make the place.

Came for a drink with conference folks. Cool decor, cool history of the building and swimming pool. Nicest bar bathroom ever!!! Drinks were delicious too. Everyone enjoyed what they ordered

5 Stars "Smoked Old Fashioned Perfection" The Locked Barrel in Sacramento is the kind of place that surprises you--in the best way. From the moment you walk in, it's clear they take pride in what they do. Let's get right to it: the Smoked Old Fashioned is a game changer. Rich, bold, perfectly balanced, and the smoky aroma makes the whole experience feel elevated. It's not just a drink--it's a moment. If you appreciate a well-crafted cocktail, this one alone is worth the trip. The food backs it up beautifully. I tried the short rib grilled cheese with truffle fries, and it was everything you want in upscale comfort food--flavorful, filling, and expertly done. The vibe is polished but relaxed, the service is on point, and the bartenders are passionate about what they pour. Whether you're a whiskey connoisseur or just looking to treat yourself, this spot delivers. Quick hit: "That smoked Old Fashioned is worth the trip alone."

Cute venue. Love the big indoor windows down to pool room. Yummy drinks. Staff was friendly and service was good.

Our second visit to Locked Barrel did not disappoint. We wanted to experiment with some new flavors and revisit old favorites. The ambiance is reminiscent of prohibition speak easies with modern play lists. We were happily not surprised. Our first Happy Hour drinks were classic comforts. Moving from those to the house specials was full of taste. The Smokey Old Fashioned is not to be missed. My friends did some preselected whiskey flights. I did the custom flight of Barrel/Full strength Single Barrel selections and was surprisingly treated to some great whiskeys. As we finished our small bites, I asked our bartender, Dennis ,for a custom drink recipe and received exactly the drink I wanted. Locked Barrel is a great place for a new experience or a great place to revisit an old taste.

This spot is a really chill place to spend your days after work! You can also plan to bar hop at this location when you're around the Golden 1 Center. They sell food in addition to their yummy cocktails. This place is beautiful inside, and you'd never expect it to have an interior this nice. The staff was engaging , and the owner even acknowledge us all during our work mixer here!

What an amazing little find! Walking through downtown Sac looking for a drink and came upon Locked Barrel. The prices are amazing and the drinks are super good. There is a huge amount of incredible whiskeys and flights available. Worth a stop any single time you are downtown!

Love the ambiance! And the bartenders are super friendly. Shout out to Pretty Ricky who made our drinks!

The space is small and intimate with serious speakeasy vibes that remind me of some of the cocktail bars in San Francisco. The drink presentations are gorgeous, and you can tell a lot of thought goes into both the flavor and how everything looks when it arrives at the table. They have a great selection of gin, rum, champagne, and whiskey, and I often lean on the staff for drink suggestions because they're really good at recommending something you might not normally order. A few times now they've pointed me toward a drink that ended up being a hidden gem. I've been here a few times and it's always a great time whether you're catching up with friends or doing a date night. The food is also surprisingly good and pairs well with the cocktails. It is definitely on the pricier side, but that's part of the experience. Also, because the space is small and intimate, reservations fill up quickly and they do require a deposit, which goes toward your final bill. Helpful tip: make a reservation ahead of time and don't be afraid to ask the staff for drink recommendations -- they're excellent at guiding you to something special. Final verdict: absolutely worth it.

I remember from the video they said this was considered a "bartenders bar",the kind of spot that that bartenders and workers in the industry would hangout after their shifts-I liked the sound of that. Walking up to where I thought the bar was located,it was kinda funny because it was just an innocent looking blue door with the words "Cocktail" along the side-doesn't look like much at all,I'd imagine I've walked by this place many times without thinking of ever going in-that was changing this time. When I walked in I 100% knew I was stumbling upon something special-it was a tiny place but it was overflowing with energy, not many booths in this bar and it may be the smallest bar I've ever been to but it felt special.Looking at the clientele I felt like I was with my people,it was so cool in there. This is the kind of place I would take my wife and any of my friends before a special night out and be it a dinner or a concert or a production at Safe Performing Arts Center and feel like it would set the right vibe for the night. Looking over the menu, they had some very interesting looking drinks, the wife went with a French 75($12.00)and I went with a Pecan Brown Sugar Old Fashioned($16.00)The bartenders are very friendly and super personable and really took their time and took pride in their drinks-I had never had an Old Fashioned quite like that one,but it went down super smooth-I loved i-I look forward to going there again asap. A coupe of things about this bar-they do only have 1 unisex bathroom,it was very clean. Also this place is so old school that they are a "Cash-Only " bar. They do have an atm in the bar in case you forget your cash. They have a big fish tank behind the bar that really put the room together nicely-I liked it a lot. In closing,if you ever find yourself in the Ice Blocks part of midtown and want to experience an awesome bar that feels very unique-head on down to Frank and have a drink or two-you won't regret it-I think I may have found my new favorite bar in all of Sacramento. PS-I loved talking to the bartender telling me how they don't carry Don Julio but have many varieties of Fortaleza instead-a true IYKYK moment if there ever was one-this place rocks.

Ordering from him feels less like getting a drink and more like asking a prison guard for a favor. The drinks are overpriced, which might be forgivable if they were at least consistent. They are not. You can tell the kitchen really knows what they're doing. The only issue we experienced was with our server's understanding of the menu. When she explained the specials, the description wasn't even close to what was actually served. For example, she described one dish as a half chicken with tomatoes, cucumbers, and balsamic, but when it arrived it didn't include any of those things. We also asked several questions about the menu and ingredients, and she seemed pretty confused and wasn't able to give clear answers. I normally don't like leaving anything negative in a review because the food truly was fantastic. My only suggestion would be for the staff to become a little more familiar with the menu and the specials so they can confidently explain dishes to guests. Overall, incredible food, but a little more menu training for the staff would make the experience even better. I would definitely come back for the food.
