From out of town and wanting to stop at a brewery with food and we hit the jackpot. Lots of nice cocktails and of course beer. I got a flight and enjoyed everything in it- which included sours, holiday ales and stouts. My friends margarita was maybe a bit too much sour mix however. Our waitress was extremely friendly and gave lots of great suggestions about food. I have a gluten sensitivity and I am a vegetarian and my friend is completely gluten intolerant so we were happy to see lots of options for us on the menu. She got the Port Salut hamburger minus the bun with the jalapeño grits. The grits were spectacular. I got the vegan mushroom bulgogi which was just incredible, it was a huge plate of food I couldn't finish with lots of fresh mushrooms and a spicy sauce. I would definitely come back up to this brewery just to have dinner. I was pleasantly surprised by how good the food was here since it's a brewery. I happened to be in the area and was hungry so I searched Yelp to find the best restaurant near me and Lock 15 came up. The menu looked diverse and upscale, but reasonably priced. The driveway is kind of hidden and the sign is small, but if you're using GPS, you'll know that it's coming up. It's also a gravel driveway with a few big holes that make for a bumpy entry. The restaurant is located inside what looks like an old factory turned brewery. You enter in what feels like the back of the building. There was a pretty large covered patio in the back that I imagine gets really full on nice days. I came in and went straight to the bar after being greeted by a friendly host. I sat there for a couple of minutes while I watched the only bartender serve a few patrons at high tops. There was a barback or server assistant who was behind the bar washing some glasses. She never greeted me or said that the bartender would be right with me, which as a server myself, I get, but it's also a little annoying. Customers want to be acknowledged even if they won't be helped right away. A few minutes after I placed my drink and food order, another gentleman sat next to me and was not greeted for at least 10 minutes. The bartender was getting pretty busy, but a simple greeting would have been nice. The guy leaned over and said he felt like he was invisible. The food made up for the initial lackluster greeting and the bartender was overall very nice, he was just busy, so I get it. I ordered the heirloom tomato caprese burrata salad and added steak. The salad was $16 and the added steak was $18. It felt a little pricey, but the steak entree on the menu was $34, and it was the same steak, so I guess it's fine. I also got an order of their homemade chips and gorgonzola dipping sauce. It was like a dill & gorgonzola blue cheese. Super flavorful and could be used on so many things. I got an extra side to take home with my remaining chips. The salad came with a ton of fresh tomatoes, a bed of arugula and a good sized ball of burrata. With the balsamic glaze, the salad tasted really good and fresh. I did add a little salt to my tomatoes, but that's just my preference. My steak was cooked perfectly medium, it was braised in a cabernet wine sauce and had perfect grill marks. I wouldn't say it was the most seasoned cut of meat, but an excellent cut of beef doesn't need much seasoning. I did add a little salt. The meal was a really good size, I took about half home and left very satisfied as well as excited to eat my leftovers. This was pretty much a perfect meal as far as the food goes. For a good microbrewery, they have an excellent food menu. Inside is cool and comfortable, and acoustics are reasonable for conversation. Huge tent outside, but it's set up against a stone wall, so no breeze can blow through, and the tents ceiling is fairly low, so outside noise is pretty loud. Impressive array of beers, including one that is 15.8% avg. They also feature an ample charcuterie plate that be split among a large party. But it's big enough to be more than enough for two to share. read more

Picked this place for a work dinner while in the area. Beautiful building with a chill outside space. A beaver walked by after we finished our meal since it is situated on a sort of nature preserve with tons of flora which was a 10/10 experience. Service was a bit slow but since they had a long walk inside to outside between the kitchen and our table I don't blame them, they were very kind and helpful when my colleague asked to cancel his food because the appetizers ( 2 x chicken wings & pretzel bites) were more than enough for him. Veggie burger was above average but my side salad (although lush and plentiful) had quite a lot of browned/spoiled greens in it which I know happens with spring mixes but I was bummed. read more

In town for business and found this thru our hotel staff. Service was a touch slow as the floor was lacking in staff for the size of the number of guests. It wasn't a constant flow of folks coming in so was sort of surprised the hostess wasn't assisting the staff with food running. Took a bit of time for someone to take our order. Place as a laid back feel to it and was the right amount of noise in the place where you felt like your conversations with your table mates was private. I had the fish and chips which was perfectly flaky on the on the outside and inside the fish was moist as the meal should be. Bartenders made a very balanced Manhattan which considering the higher end Bourbon they carry I appreciated. All of us managed to find something on the menu that we enjoyed. We've visited several times over the years. The space is great, but parking can be a bit frustrating. It can get loud in the dining room, also. But the biggest reason I've taken a star off would be that the food is inconsistent. And, while I like the changing menu, it's disappointing to go there with the hopes of getting something you've loved from a previous visit, only to have a menu with all new offerings. read more

Looking for a great place to enjoy your weekend with friends, then Lock 15 is a must stop. The building is very spacious and comfortable. If your into patio dining, then you will really enjoy their outside dining area. The drink menu is extensive. There is literally a drink for every type of person. Such as wines, meads, IPA's, and stouts all made with high quality ingredients. Scallops- The concept was there, but for me the quality of the scallops didn't match the dish. These scallops were waaay to small and overcook. I suggest using the large sea scallops, and not the smaller bay scallops. The best part of this dish, was the roasted cauliflower with tahini sauce. Our server, Kim, was fantastic. When we told her this was our first time there, she offered details on several dishes. We felt welcomed from the moment we walked in. The food was unbelievably good! The salmon dish was unusual and hearty. And the fish and chips was the best I've had. Beer battered fish with a nice light fry, radish Cole slaw and delicious tartar sauce different from any other. While visiting friends in Ohio they took us to, among other breweries and brew pubs, Lock 15 Brewing Company. Located in a trendy downtown neighborhood in Akron, Lock 15 is a really cool spot, with a cool history. Parking was a bit tricky on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, but we found a spot. Upon walking in we immediately loved the look and feel of the place. Very open and airy. The use of the original brick walls in the old building was exceptional. We are always big fans of the roll-up garage style doors too. Although Akron weather in November dictates that they remain closed. Loved the open kitchen. The place had a really laid back vibe. We found an available four top and grabbed it. My wife Becky and our Akron hosts are all seltzer drinkers. Lock 15 has not yet embraced that trend so the three of them had to join me in enjoying a beer. Becky and I enjoyed the Grandfather German Style Lager. A very tasty beer indeed! I can't remember what our friends had, but I do remember them enjoying their beers as well. Prices were a bit higher than we'd seen in other places, but as noted earlier, Lock 15 is more on the trendier side. We did not sample anything from the menu, which I regret. I spied an order of Pretzel Loaves coming from the kitchen and desperately wished that I had ordered them. When I saw the Black & Blue Burger land on the table next to us, I wanted to stay another hour or so. Sadly I was out voted by my tablemates as we already had plans with others at a different brew pub in another part of town. Our server was Tom B. He was attentive enough. It was the day of the Downtown Sakura Festival, and there were plenty of people out and about. They only need to have six or seven quality flavored brews. Many try to have up to twenty, blending too many flavors that fall short of a decent drink. And for the food, needs to be basic and cheap. After an evening at a nearby Indie theater we decided to check out Lock 15 based on the reviews here on Yelp. While we weren't disappointed we weren't overly impressed either. The atmosphere and look of the place was really nice. We showed up mid week and were seated immediately upon on arrival. We didn't have a long wait for our meals and while the food was tasty it wasn't life changing. We both ordered burgers and fries. I'm a nut and love Heinz, they have a Cleveland based ketchup that's a little sweeter than I'd like. However the fries were good without it. Came here on a recent Friday night for patio dining on a beautiful weather day. We were seated at an outdoor bench-style table and we ordered drinks and appetizers before dinner. The beer I chose was slightly hoppy and perfect for the setting. We decided to share two plates...smoked wings and loaded corn fritters. Their wings are smoked and then fried before being topped with either a dry rub or some kind of sauce; we went with the honey Sriracha. They were sticky sweet but with a touch of heat from the peppery sauce, a nice combo. Wings came with a homemade ranch dipping sauce and a small bucket of celery and carrot sticks. The loaded corn fritters were presented like potato pancakes or crab cakes...flattened discs filled with fresh corn and batter. Atop the fritters was a pile of pulled pork and a drizzle of blueberry BBQ which was unique and sweeter than a regular sauce (as you'd expect). The fritters themselves did not have much flavor pop, but combined with the pork and sauce made for a decent bite. For my meal I decided on the fish-n-chips, a large tempura battered piece of haddock served with fries, English peas and a lemon aioli for dipping. The fish fillet was quite thick and had no fishy taste, but the batter lacked and real flavor until the aioli was applied. Fresh cut fries were not quite cooked long enough leaving them fairly limp. I am a fan of English peas, but would have preferred them served in a more traditional mushy pea" style you find in England. Overall, the atmosphere at this place was wonderful and the service very attentive and polite...but the food missed the mark a bit for me. Maybe an off night in the kitchen? read more
