I'm under 35 and was recently a first time homebuyer. As you can imagine, being a young person looking to enter into the Hawaii real estate market can be a hugely challenging and stressful experience. I was assigned to a Locations agent whom I never met but had communicated with via phone and email. I wanted to set up viewings of apartments while working with a lender, but that never happened. I just got the feeling that because I was a young first time homebuyer, I would not be at the top of the list of priorities when there are older couples looking to buy million dollar homes. There was one very good real estate opportunity near my workplace I lost out on because of this agent's dawdling. The lender also was not helpful. I asked to be informed of grants and government programs available to first time homebuyers in Hawaii, with a certain amount of income, etc., but I was not told anything. Frustrated and feeling like I was working with people I could not trust to get me the best deal on a home and loan, I cut my losses and researched online to find a realtor and lender who would be more flexible with my needs. I found Hawaii HomeOwnership Center, and they were fantastic. During the verification of funds, the realtor was already looking for apartments in my price range. Within several months I was in escrow for an apartment near my workplace in town. If you are a first time homebuyer and don't know where to start in terms of planning, saving, or finding a lower priced apartment or house in Hawaii, definitely go to Hawaii HomeOwnership Center. They offer education courses in home buying and financial planning. It was a breath of fresh air after my frustrating Locations experience. read more

YUKO UEDA!!!! I went to an open house passively one Sunday that she was working. The unit she was showing didn't interest me but she reached out and set up a time to help me find what I was looking for. Keep in mind I had no intent on buying. Yuko however was able to guide me through the process and stuck with me even though I wasn't serious about buying. About 6 weeks later I was a first time home owner. I literally gave this girl hell. She answered all my question 24/7 and never once complained. I wasn't not easy to work wIth because I worked in reconstruction for many years and was super picky Regardless she was always patient, nice and friendly. I will use her again in the future. read more

We hired agent Noa Hussey to sell our investment property in Waikiki. Noa was very grateful that we even considered him to represent us. The first email was professional but after that, his emails became less and less professional, no spell checking and got to the point where we couldn't understand what he was trying to say most of the time and responding quickly to email via phone without reviewing what he was sending. We received an offer which we accepted and that's when we realized that Noa doesn't know how to set up or handle any of the paperwork. Noa requested a rental contract from our property manager who incorrectly sent our contract which contained our SSN and TAT information instead of a blank contract. Without reviewing it, Noa forwarded all our private information to multiple persons. We had to contact Noa's Team Lead to alert them of this serious breach of privacy. Noa also asked our property manager to not rent the condo out for the last ten days before closing without our knowledge, permission or explanation. We made it very clear that this is an investment property from the very beginning and needs to be in the rental pool until closing. After closing and reviewing the paperwork we realized that the title company didn't catch a mistake on the paperwork (we believe an error created by the online meeting with the notary), and we had to go back and deal with it ourselves because Noa did not review the documents to ensure those were completed correctly. Noa has no knowledge or experience on how to set up a real-estate transaction and his customer service skills are extremely poor. Our experience with Noa and everyone at Locations was one of the most needlessly complicated and unprofessional transaction, we've dealt with in Hawaii in the past 20 plus years we've invested in the state. We will never recommend Noa or anyone at Locations to anyone. read more

As a Realtor in AZ would like to say: If anyone is looking for, or is unsure about which agent they should work with... I highly recommend giving John Gerphart a call 808-203-7424. We made no mistake in having him represent us in the sale of our home. He is a sincere, hard working agent with great communication skills that will go out of his way to protect and promote your best interest at all times. He always responded promptly, answering our every question, making sure we understood everything and walking us thru the transaction as many times as needed. For being out of state sellers, the idea of selling our home was stressful but thanks to John Gephart, he made it as effortless as can be. We put our trust in him and he delivered. We are truly grateful for all he did and appreciate his hard work. Thank you John Gephart!!! We will always highly recommend you to all of our friends, family and colleagues because we know that you represent the meaning of quality service in a Realtor!!! read more

This review is for Crystal Montrone. Crystal definitely takes the time out of her day to cater to the client. Erin McCabe was the best realtor I could have ever asked for! This was my very first home purchase, and it was a crazy one at that. But she was dedicated into getting my children and I into our own home and was there with me every step of the way, even late at night and on weekends too. Her and my lender, Jessica Nagatani (Compass Loans, LLC.) are my home buying dream team! If you're looking for a realtor who will be with you every step of the way, that is super knowledgeable of the industry, who does things the right way first so you're not wasting valuable time and money fixing errors, who has been in the industry long enough to earn the respect of her peers as well as her superiors - you found her and you won't be disappointed in her services and her commitment to you! When I'm ready to sell this place, she is the only realtor I'm going to. Thank you Erin for everything!!! read more

This review is for Fred Ushijima. He is the real deal and helped me to find a place in town in my budget, all in the span of a few months. Being a first time home buyer, this was a scary step in life because I didn't even know the first thing about getting into the market, searching for a place, or securing the financing to make it all happen. Even just going back to 6 months ago, I didn't think that this dream could have come true. Then Fred came to the rescue. His knowledge of the process and positive working relationships with people in the business made everything so easy. Every step of the way, Fred communicated well and made sure that I understood what was going on. He really took care, plus he's a great guy! I respect Fred, his values, and work ethic, and I would recommend him to anyone. I still can't believe that I'm a new homeowner! As a first time home buyer, this is the best experience that I could have hoped for. Majalos, Fred and Locations! read more

We never imagined selling our first home would be so simple, straightforward, and profitable! Ruth expertly guided us through the process, arranged all the touch-up renovations, made very timely and astute upgrade recommendations, and prepared our property to be a show-stopper on the first day of listing. She was always available for a call or to respond to a quick text, and maintained our complete confidence throughout a quite short listing period. We can't thank her and Locations enough for helping us! 10/10 we will use Ruth and locations for any future purchases and sales in Hawaii. read more

I have never experienced such unprofessionalism and complete disregard for clients in any setting as I have with JAN KIM at Locations Hawaii. My husband and I each submitted our applications with payments, and a few days later my husband received a call from Jan's assistant Rexie who stated we had been approved for the unit. Before immediately jumping to sign on the dotted line, my husband asked if it would be okay for him to call me, his wife (and equal applicant for this unit). Rexie responded impatiently with something along the lines of "we need to have a contract signed today for this unit and we have two other applicants after you" (note: it was nearly 4pm at the time of this call, and the application states a period of 24 hours to reply). My husband politely acknowledged this need, and let Rexie know he would be calling back in the next few minutes after speaking with me, to which Rexie expressed understanding and agreement. As promised, my husband called back within ~10 minutes to move forward with signing and left a voicemail. He proceeded to call 5 times within the hour with no answer, and I tried calling as well with no answer. I personally never received a call from Locations Hawaii regarding my application, and thus texted Jan to inquire about next steps. I was informed by Jan via text at nearly 5pm that they had "moved on to the next app," and she accusatorially stated her assistant spoke with me, though she had not. I asked Jan who I could speak with to resolve this issue, to which I received no information. No apology. No nothing. Additionally, Jan confused me with another person at least twice in the few interactions I had with her. We are very disappointed to have lost the unit due to Jan's unprofessionalism and apparent haste to rent the unit to anyone willing to sign and pay immediately, despite the application stating a period of 24 hours to reply, and our reply being made within minutes. I have contacted Locations Hawaii via various methods to submit my complaint, though have received no response whatsoever. In my mind, our application fees were payment for the service of processing our applications, which I feel was not done, especially given the fact that I was not once contacted regarding my application. I will be avoiding this company in the future, and urge others to as well. read more

This review relates to the agent, Anita Bruhl. She is rude, unprofessional, arrogant and self-centered, condescending, dishonest, and she conducted the entirety of the transaction with puffery, blowing of smoke, extortionist tactics, and a complete lack of transparency. She did not carry out the most basic of responsibilities that her position as a real estate agent calls for. Ultimately, I would say she failed to comply with her fiduciary duty to represent and act in the interest of her client. Instead of doing her job, i.e. communicating honestly and directly with the client, keeping the client abreast of her activities relating to the transaction, and requesting the appropriate authorization from the client whenever called for, she went rogue and contacted the client's daughter (me), someone who was never an official party to the transaction, with the expectation that I would relay her communications to the client, on the assumption that I am even in contact with the client. She even had her personal handyman, someone not officially affiliated with Locations, act as the go-between the client and herself. She would also call my cell phone several times a day and leave ~5-minute long messages, call me "unprofessional" for not picking up (what the hell can I do? For the infinite time, I'm not a party to this transaction...thus, no authority), and write e-mails with walls of text, rambling sometimes on issues not related to the real estate transaction at hand, i.e. her knee surgery (quite irrelevant). I have these e-mails stored away just in case any slander suit gets tossed my way...just what I need, right, when the lady gets a nearly $100K commission for this one gig. Even if I can admit that the client is very difficult to work with, as agent, complete your duties bound by contract and see the matter through. In short, DO YOUR JOB. It was an absolutely miserable experience interacting with this individual. She is out of touch, and she does not know how to manage client expectations or maintain client relations. read more

Locations has always been a reputable company that withstand the ups and downs of the real estate market. One of the major factors for its success is the superior customer service it provides. For that to happen, their representatives has to be knowledgeable , reliable , meticulous , and sensitive to the customer's needs in all aspects of the sale as a buyer or a seller. We were very fortunate to have connected with one of those excellent real estate agents. We met Marshall Mower in early 2000s. After our first purchase of a rental property, Marshall became our exclusive agent. We did not deal with any properties until we get his expert opinion and discussed it with him. Of the ten times we made a transaction of buying and selling, we can always rely on him to make the process go smoothly and effortlessly for us. I have every confidence in him and the results prove that time and time again. It is comforting to know we have a friend in him and he is there for our best interest. Our daughter is now purchasing her own home and she is gradually upgrading as they move forward in achieving their goals in life. She sums it up best, " We don't move until Marshall says we move." Prudential is located on Kapahulu, and they have their own parking lot. There's is a attendant in the parking lot to help you on where to park. I thought I wouldn't mention my realtor's name, I try not to in reviews. We've been working with same realtor for about two years, but not seriously for the first year. We weren't really in the situation where we HAD to move, so no big if we didn't find a place immediately. I'm a pretty picky person, and was looking for something that had larger square feet than my current place, in building code, located in town, walk in closet, at least 2 bathrooms, at least 2 bedrooms, pet friendly, at least 2 parking stalls, not a fixer upper unless super cheat, in good condition, master bathroom had to have a long sink, clean kitchen... Better stop on the details, or you'll know what my potential place looks like! haha. Anyway, we were active on searching on the Prudential website, creating lists for favorites and criteria searches. When we found a place we wanted to see, we'd email and/or call our realtor. He would schedule something at a convenient time 2-5 days depending on how fast the other realtor responded. So after years of searching, we found a potential place. In escrow now - wish me luck! read more

It all started when my husband and I were just going to open houses to see what was out there and we both have been contemplating on whether or not we should make that big decision to finally buy. We weren't pre-approved or anything but just wanted to see what the market was like. A few couple of open houses we went we seemed interested in, realtors came by just giving us their business cards and asked a few questions, but we got the impression that they didn't take me or my husband seriously maybe because we weren't pre-approved at the time. On one sunday afternoon we decided to check out another open house, it was the day we met Jan & Doug Weber...who later became our awesome realtors. These two are husband and wife and I tell you they are on it! Always following up on new openings they had that were listed and most of all they listened to what we requested as far as what we wanted in our new home. They didn't push us into settling for something we weren't sure about and I tell you they made the extra effort by going the mile when they referred us to Honolulu HomeLoans for our approval after the craziness that happened with Navy Federal (we thought maybe we shouldn't pursue it, but Jan & Doug didn't give up on us!). My husband I are so lucky to have found such professional and friendly Realtors and got to know so much in a short 3 months in process of searching for a home. These 2 will go out of their way and take you to 5 open houses in 1 day if you wanted to! They email you with any updates and any questions you have and are quick about it. If you are looking to buy a home and need a real estate agent I highly recommend Jan & Doug Weber. read more

If you watch HGTV 24/7, that makes you a real estate expert, right? Well, that's what certified-addict me thought when I decided to buy my own home. Boy was I wrong. I would have asked my brother-in-law, Drew Scott of the Property Brothers, to be my realtor. But he and my husband, contractor/designer Jonathan Scott (it's true, he just doesn't know it yet) were busy filming in the Mainland. It's ok honey, I understand. So I decided to go with Prudential for assistance. I went to their breakfast seminar in their Diamond Head branch. The talk was highly informative and entertaining. They really do know the local market and trends. While eating a delicious breakfast burrito in their meeting room, I realized that I was indeed ready to take the plunge and become a first-time homebuyer. The realtor I chose was Debbie Anderson. She is much prettier than Drew, and just as well-dressed, but that is not why I chose her. Debbie has a personality that I was comfortable with. Debbie was never pushy, and helped me come to conclusions on my own about how much money I should spend to get what I want. She listened well, and was able to read me and lined up showings that fit my personality, lifestyle and budget. And she would be honest with me during house tours and tell me flatly if certain places would not be good for me. I appreciated that candor. She really does care. But what made all the difference for me is that Debbie gets the job done! Debbie texted me the evening the property I ended up buying came on the market. I said YESSSS it's beautiful, let's go to the open house the moment they open. She said NOOOO we need to go in before that. Debbie convinced the selling agent to allow me to tour the place the next night. After hours too! In the words of the selling agent: "She was so sweetly convincing, I couldn't say no." When the open house came around, the sellers received 5 other offers but sorry! Too late! I already had put in an offer the night before and got accepted. Debbie gave me the upper hand, and for that I am eternally grateful. I am totally in love with my new place even a year later. The rest of the Prudential team came through for me too. There were other agents assisting with the financial and legal part of it, and they were all very prompt, clear and efficient. I always hear that the process for a first-time home buyer is fraught with stress and anxiety. Not for me. It took me just 3 weeks from the time I went to the seminar to the time my offer was accepted. I would say that because of Prudential and Debbie, my entire process was painless, and, dare I even say... enjoyable. read more

Daniel LWK Hom (daniel.hom@locationshawaii.com) is the hardest working agent in Hawaii real estate!!! He is a powerful mix of suave and sedulous. He is very reliable, knowledgeable, very prompt, a truly kind, and extremely hard-working professional. He is definitely a great asset to Locations Hawaii. Yelp Challenge #17/100 Prudential Locations is the largest real estate agency on Oahu and again voted #1 again on Star Advertiser's People's Choice as Best Real Estate Agency. If I could leave zero stars I would. I have a few complaints about Locations (I do know some great agents who work for them) but specifically about my old property manager Mark T. My spouse and I rented a unit from Mark and were easily accommodated. We did notice moving in that there were a lot of food Venues surrounding us so we did worry about bugs BUT we had no other options and had to move quickly. Within the first two weeks of living in our new home we got into an argument with one of the business owners downstairs because Mark assigned us her parking space and we had to be moved to another space. We started to notice that 4 months into moving in our home became infested with roaches. We cleaned every other day and did all we could to make sure the home was clean enough to live in. Then we started noticing MOLD growing on our kitchen wall. Not just any mold, red mold that covered behind our fridge, our sink and bugs were coming out of the wall. An upstairs unit had a leak which caused our wall to infest. We both emailed and emailed and tried to get the situation resolved but Mark lacked communication and it took 6 months to resolve. We couldn't even cook in our kitchen because it wasn't safe. When they finally got it fixed we weren't even contacted to ensure it was done right and that the bug problem disappeared. We had so many issues with this rental from homeless people making house within our building, the intense scent of pot every night coming from upstairs and neighbors who we complained about every other week for blasting pounding music till 2am everyday. As a property manager I would have though Mark would make sure all his tenants were taken care of to ensure they continue to use Locations. I will NEVER recommend him as a property manager and I hope someone will ensure he is healed responsible for his lack of compassion and willingness to his renters. Side note- I went to visit this specific location to pick something up and the downstairs clerk who I've never seen before (covered in tattoos) spoke with an extremely rude tone to everyone in the office. I've worked as a clerk before, your body language and tone of voice sets the mood for an establishment. read more
