Fantastic meal and experience. The ambiance is very welcoming and charming but the food is what you will want to come for again and again. This is my second time here and I felt I had to write the review after having two amazing meals in a row along with such great service. The first time I had the homemade pappardelle with a mushroom butter sauce cooked perfectly. This time I came with a friend and she had spaghetti and meatballs and I the homemade ravioli with the most delicious, creamy ricotta filling with a beautiful light sauce that did not over power the ravioli but rather complimented it perfectly. As for the spaghetti and meatballs...not a drop left on my picky friends plate. She loved. Def 5 stars. Will return. read more

I've been saying I was going to try this spot out for quite some time but finally got to it. The restaurant design and ambiance was perfect, the food was outstanding (had the scampi), and the bread and its dipping mix left me asking - how did they make this taste so good? The restaurant gave me some of the dipping mix to take home along with some bread. I sat at the bar and my server was incredibly attentive, personable and really made for a perfect locally owned experience. I went solo but cannot wait to go back with my wife and friends! Bummed I didn't get to try locanda sooner, rather just tried those lower quality close to home Italian spots instead. This one is definitely worth the drive (I live in providence) - both in the summer and that cozy winter spot as well! read more

Excellent, Best pasta I have had outside of Italy!

I only had the Eggplant Milanese app. One thin slice of eggplant for $16. The eggplant was undercooked and the panko crust was almost burnt. Hidden Gem! The cocktails on menu are quite interesting and worth a sip. The appetizer of fried cheese is so delicious. The pasta is real...really homemade and delicious sauces and spices. I'm glad this place survived the pandemic. Just a visitor to RI and worth this place to visit! Beats most of Newport's restaurants. read more

I only write reviews when I am either blown away by something or leave a place angry and feeling as if I wasted my money. THIS restaurant was fantastic!! 1. The Food: Everything we ate was good. We had the cheese and charcuterie plate to start. Was it mindblowing? Not really, but it certainly was put together by a staff that cares about what their guests eat. From there we had a beet carpaccio with buratta. The beats were AMAZING...accompanied by a small frise salad that was well dressed and a wonderful buratta cheese. (Which could have been just a few degrees warmer) After that we moved to the Angolotti pasta dish. This dish was probably the best of the night. From the texture of the pasta and filling, to the beautiful sear on the forged mushrooms...simply technically sound. The cream sauce was very well balanced without leaving me with a heavy pallet. BRAVO The monkfish picatta was also good! This dish showed me a kitchen that truly understands the classics in fine cuisine, the importance in texture and the power of unique subtleties in flavor. We finished our meal with the short rib. Perfectly braised with a well seasoned creamy polenta. Pretty much everything I want on a cold winters day. 2. The Decor: What i liked about the overall ascetic of the restaurant is the non-pretentiousness of the design. It is obvious to me that the focus here is their product. (Food, drinks and service) 3. The Service: Kate was the absolute star of this show!! She has such a unique ability to read her guests and treat them accordingly. This is a statement coming from someone who is difficult to please! She was friendly without being overbearing, communicative without asking too many questions, and MOST impressively anticipated our needs without us having to ask! I ordered a bone dry martini with no fruit which was delivered as requested. What BLEW my mind was when my wife and I switched to Kettle and sodas. Hers had a lime with a straw and mine did not. For a server to have the wherewithal to consciously not put anything in my drink based on the way I ordered a different drink was nothing short of impressive. All of our courses were split for us...WITHOUT us asking for it. Her timing was impeccable, her demeanor was endearing, and her presence was professional yet personal. Kate and the rest of the staff created this experience. The manager came over and delivered us dessert togo as we were obviously very full. To whoever this establishment belongs to, how fortunate you are to have these people working for you. A special THANK YOU to Kate and the lanky wavy haired manager for this experience!! We picked up some take out and I was so impressed with the interior design + the vibe and can't wait to dine in next time :) I had the short rib dish, YUM!! My fiancé loves Italian and really enjoyed his whipped ricotta ravioli dish. His dad, who grew up in Italy had the the fresh tagliatelle pasta and was very impressed with his dish also. This was such a great surprise! After a long day I was looking for some Italian comfort food and red wine. It's my first time in Kingston (traveling on business) so I relied on my fellow "yelpers" to help me. This restaurant has only been open for a week or two and only had 2 reviews but both were good. I was really surprised when I found out it was in the Holiday Inn. Being by myself, I sat at the bar. The pasta was to die for, the service was excellent and I even got to meet the owners. A friend recommended this place to me. I was surprised by how nice the atmosphere was inside. the menu is varied and has many choices to meet any palate. I loved the bread, try not to eat it! I ordered the appetizer of shaved brussel sprouts- delicious, the wine choices excellent, and my dinner (chose the chicken) was excellent. My friend ordered the sausage with broccoli rabe, which was different since the rabe was ground and well distributed. I strongly recommend people try this place. Locanda literally just opened. We were there on Saturday evening, a few days after their soft opening. The food was very good, and our server was attentive, but not overly intrusive. We each ordered an appetizer, an entree and we shared a dessert. The drinks were good, and they have a speciality cocktail list, but it was not available yet, so we ordered standard drinks. One thing that was a little odd, or at least we had not experienced this is before, is that we had to order our appetizers and our entrees together. They were served with a nice space between them and we were not rushed, but the server said that is how the chef prefers it. She offered to come back when we were ready, so we didn't have a choice. Here is where I am a little disappointed - it is a new place and all night long we (and other patrons) were noticing that the managers or owners were going to tables and greeting diners, but it seemed like they only went to tables of the people that you see around town/in the news... We recognized people at each of those tables. There is NOTHING wrong with this, but one of the owners/managers came to our table to bring water (our server was pretty busy all night so it was very nice that he pitched in) but he did not even introduce himself. This same person went to at least 4 other tables several times, where he greeted the diners, had conversations with them and at at least 2 near us, he told them about his family coming from Italy, the other restaurants he is involved in ... I felt he should have stopped by all the tables to just say hi, especially because this was their first Saturday, but if he was truly not able to do that, he certainly could have said hello when he was at our table. That said, we will go back. This place is local for us and we are happy that they are in a spot that has been empty. It's good for all of us when we support our local merchants. read more

Wonderful modern Italian food tucked inside of a Holiday Inn (of all places). As far I can tell, the restaurant is completely independent from the hotel. I live in Boston's North End, and eat Italian food several times per week. Locanda's food exceeded any dish I've eaten in Boston over the past several years. My wife and I dined the bar, and were able to split a 3 course meal. After dinner, we were introduced to the Chef/Owner who spent some time with us, which is always appreciated. Service by our bartender was excellent as well. I look forward to returning to Locanda on my next visit to Narragansett. read more

Something is happening here and it's not good . The restaurant used to be on the level of phenomenal and now barely adequate. The service was great but food offerings and quality has declined substantially. It's a real shame because we have been eating weekly at Locanda during the summer every year. We were told there is a new chef and perhaps they are trying to come into their own. All I know is when the food declines, portion size decreases and prices go up, it is all of the red flags that the restaurant may not be able to be resuscitated. I understand that there is a worker shortage but customers won't hang on if things keep sliding. read more

Everything about our dinner experience here was spot on and I couldn't recommend this place enough. We heard great things from our family, and decided to give it a try! The atmosphere was super fun and welcoming. I don't remember what our waitresses name was, but she was really friendly, funny and super attentive with great recommendations. First time. I don't know what's going on down here. My first winter living here. This place was such a dissappoint. The calamari was by far the worst I have ever had and it wasn't local because it isn't available right now. The stuffed meatball had no stuffing. The bartender brought our cold plates over. Had the rabi sausage dish. For $28 use hand made sweet sausage not $3 a pound crumbled. Couple of pieces of rabi. Didn't have dessert because had no idea what they were. I live in Colorado where we have many awesome restaurants. I am a foodie and have travelled all over the world eating. I recently was in Rhode Island visiting family. My Dad said we have to try this awesome Italian Restaurant. By far, in the last 9 months, this was the best foodie experience I have had. First of all the restaurant was IMMACULATE. I also really loved the plexiglass partitions between booths and at the bar. The service was a 10. Professional with friendly customer service. The food was off the charts. Everything was scratch made including the focaccia bread that was to die for [of course we had to order extra]. The homemade ravioli that my parents had was made fresh that day. One of my favorite meals in the world is linguini with clams. Usually when I order this meal the clams are subpar. The littleneck clams were plentiful and out of this world...the real deal and scrumptious. I also had the Tricolore Salad that was fresh and tasty. Wine and italian beer list terrific. You might want to call this place before going to it. Went there today. The restaurant is supposed to be already open. There was no mention of not being open on their website, facebook, or their instagram pages. I show up and a woman at the door says they were supposed to already be open, are having a gas issue and they should be open at "some point". So to recap. Instead of doing the right thing and letting potential customers know via their socials they're not ready to open for the day. They are going with the "hope strategy." So they "hope" they can open today but instead of telling their customers that so that they may make other plans, they're just have them show up today and then turn them away if they have to because they can't get their "gas" problem fixed yet.. If this is how this business is run, probably a good idea to steer clear. Hey Locanda. Maybe jump on your website and your socials and let the public at large know you can't open today versus having people go out their way to show up, just to be told come back, "maybe" at some point. read more

Hot place at the moment, new and in a holiday inn but do not let that put you off. Ate with friends at the big table recently. I had the shaved brussel sprouts, which was both beautiful and delicious. And the taste was light, as I tend not to be into Brussel Sprouts too often. The pasta was great also, and shared deserts. Our server Mark was exceptional and made us laugh without being too much. This is not the usual place you eat at in the South County area. We will be back again soon. read more
