I always have had good experiences at Local Motion in Ala Moana and Hawaii Kai. They are so welcoming and helpful. So it was pretty shocking to see how the customer service differ at this location in Waikele. There were two staffs, one male ans female, they don't even greet you or offer assistance at all. That was not something I am used to at other Local Motion and I think it is such a shame. Their pricing is definitely cheaper and if you do not mind some digging thru their inventory, it is worth saving the money. Due to corona virus, they closed their fitting rooms....okay I understand. But they also have no return/exchange policy claiming due to covid. It does not really make sense to me, because you can touch their products as much as you want in store and the virus lives only up to one day on fabrics. So they can just put aside return items for a day. How the heck could you buy clothes with confidence if you cannot try them on or return/exchange? I feel like covid is their excuse just not to accept any return. read more

My go to Yeti store. Customer service is always awesome. Friendly and helpful staff. If u want close parking it may take a while to get one but if you're willing to walk there are lots of stalls near KFC. I like to browse while waiting for a table at Kunios. Every so often u find a treasure in there something in the right size for a great price. They had such great deals during Christmas it was a one stop shop for my Christmas gifts. read more

My first visit in this shop in the Waikele shopping center, next to Party City. I was fortunate to find parking so I decided to browse while looking for a birthday gift. The store was covid ready, with hand sanitizer at the door and plexiglass at the register. I love the variety of t-shirts, beachwear and stickers. The staff is amazing. They were attentive, gave their sales pitch, showed me the hot sellers and then gave me space to browse. I noticed the cool, local kind stickers behind the registers and even added a couple to my spending spree. I'll return again, one day. read more

Cell phone addiction is robbing customer service as well as a sale. Walked in and was greeted with a look up at me, than back down to the cell phone. Employees need to be mindful of when to go on their phone (on breaks). I could be wrong that this young lady was on break at the register, so a break room away from customers is suggested. OMG .. I thought it was just me that customers service is crap but after reading previous post I'm glad its them. There was at least 4 employees standing around by the cashier when we arrived. I walked around and even went in the back where the sales section are at and no one approach me or said anything. This Local Motion serves as the outlet store for all their other major locations. They are located at the Waikele Premium Outlets next to Party City. Of course, what I like about this Local Motion is that there is a chance to get older dated products at lower prices (hence it being an outlet). What I also appreciate is that they do not let their brand go to waste!... They have a rack called the "Aw'we" rack, which consists of defected or slightly damaged to damaged products at an even more reduced price. I've gotten some socks for my man that the only defect was a small hole. I simply stitched it up! They also sell regular priced merchandise as well, yet I find that they almost always have a sale going on. Service is great. read more

I remember when this location was more near the right side of the outlets.. kinda where Puma is right now. But now its located at the top by Off 5th. The store itself is one of the smaller ones I've been to. It was kinda crowded when I went so it gave the claustrophobic vibe. There's the wall of shirts of the left and mini kiosks down the center of the aisle with clothes. If i remember correctly, I only saw 2 people working. I was standing in line and the girl working thought I was with some guy, asking if I'm ready to check out... I looked at the guy and she was assuming that we were together and I was gonna buy all the clothes he picked out. Uhh...NO. You guys need a better line system. Their system looked more like a bunch of baby animals trying to crowd around mama waiting to be fed... (had to edit that for discretion purposes) but it was frustrating cuz she didnt really know who's turn it was to check out. When it finally came to helping me, she asked the other guy to assist me. Now I knew this guy from high school so I felt a little less agitated. Told him I wanted to buy tickets to "Roots By the Sea". After I paid, I was given my tickets which looked like reloaded plastic cards... come to find out, they are! Or so I was told. I didn't get a receipt or anything which kinda worried me cuz I just blew $50... but Im supposed to be getting a email confimation? Its been a few days and I still haven't gotten anything. this location sucks! no returns are allowed and they dont even tell you! i bought my boyfriend board shorts from here and the size and fitting was wrong so i came back the next day to return it but the guy said no returns at this location only. i told him my receipt says i can only return it at this location and he said no you can turn it at the others. so why does my receipt say only waikele location and why does the other stores do returns and not this one! especially since the fitting rooms are closed! i do not recommend this location. read more

Actually NEGATIVE 100 stars...this happened at the Waikele store. Bought a pair of nice slippers for my hubby for Xmas. Went to different local motions to exchange them and none of them had any comparable slipper in size 11. This is such an average size it was hard to believe that none of the stores would have it in stock. I even asked to find something compatible and I would pay more, but nothing. So I asked for a refund my money so that I could go to another store to purchase slippers. They flat out refused and told me I could get store credit. What am I going to do with store credit? The wise ass rude little punk employee tells me you can buy something else , but I'm not going to refund your money because it's been passed 14 days since purchase. I was like ya "duh" it was a Christmas gift so I bought it BEFORE Xmas, i tried to go to the different locations around the island to look for the size I needed but they didn't have it and the "corona pandemic" made it harder to do this so that's why it's Jan and I am still trying to exchange it. The punk ass sales kid rolls his eyes at me and hesitantly puts his manager on the phone "talking smack about me on the phone with his back toward me." I talk to the manager who continues to refuse to refund my money due to store policy. So I ask him, "When will you be getting your new stock of slippers in so that I can exchange for the size I need? I can't tell you that because of Corona we have no idea when our next shipment will be coming in!" So you are telling me as a customer I can't catch a break because of Corona, but as retailer you can screw your customers over regardless of it??? I used to be a loyal customer to Local motion for decades. NEVER AGAIN. I hope they go out of business, I hope this pandemic takes them down. They need to get new employees that know how to deal with a customer in a appropriate way. They need have more empathy for their customers who are shopping T their store during a PANDEMIC. To me, this place is just alright. I just wandered in to look for some shorts for my boyfriend, and their selection wasn't too great. Their means of organizing their shorts were strange - the board shorts and denim shorts were all muddled together and just separated by size. I guess the retail space is a little small for what they've got because everything was pretty crammed in there. The selection is slim, across the board, but if you're looking for discount surf brand clothing for women, their sale rack in the back was loaded. Upon entering the store, the people working there didn't seem attentive to anything but their conversation with one another and weren't helpful at all. All in all, it's a surf shop, but it's nothing amazing. read more

This waikele location has horrible customer service. No one greets you when you walk in, and as you walk around the store, the employees walk right past you and pretend you're not even there. Was planning on buying a yeti bottle and a bodyboard, but I walked out without buying anything because I rather support a company that has good employees (T&C). read more

I won't take too much of your time on this review, though that in no way takes from the "Coolness" of this shop at the Outlet Center. I am a 2XL man and find it difficult to find fun T-shirts of HIGH QUALITY. I look and look.... nothing lasts. Well, I was wandering around the Outlet while my wife was in a woman's store and came upon Local Motion. They have the BEST T-shirts on Island. I found a discount rack in the back with 2XL shirts. I didn't expect much, though they had SUCH FUN shirts. One reads "Relax, dis Hawaii" and another describes a local favorite: the plate lunch. I bought 4 shirts for $20. Impossible to beat. Impossible to beat. (Yes, I said that twice). Go on in and don't be afraid of your age, size, or style. Pick-up some really fun T-shirts for gifts to family and friends and know they will last more than once in the washing machine. The others on Island? I've had bad experiences with them. These are right. Also know this: a 2XL (XXL) IS a 2XL (XXL). You don't have to be afraid to wash these shirts. Just to save electricity and err on the side of caution, I always dry my T-shirts outside the dryer. I suggest a "fluff cycle" or "air-only cycle" to get the ball rolling and then air dry. My shirts fit SUPER!! I am proud to be a Hawaiian local now and for the remainder of my days, therefore, wearing these cool shirts that actually fit as they're supposed to... you can't go wrong. Local Motion is a brand long recognized as a homegrown brand for surf wear, surf gear, and other water activities. I remember their floral designs (pastel turquoise) from the 80's and 90's (remember those Maui & Sons and Sumo cat shirts?) which now evolved to a new style focusing on a modernized feel. Being an avid Crazy Shirt fan, I must admit that their designs have grown a bit old, especially now being licensed for the Aulani and Disney products (somehow, the mouse and Diamond Head don't really mesh for me). Coming here on a Friday morning, I purchased several gift shirts for friends. Not sure how well they like this design, but I think their more interesting than what I found in the other t-shirt store. They're located next to the Banana Republic store and across from the Guess and Adidas stores. Stop in at this outlet store and maybe you'll find something for those warm, balmy days to remind you of the most beautiful place in the 50 states. read more

Staff was all very nice and made me feel welcomed. They definitely have one of the nicest staff members. This place definitely has deals for t shirts and board shorts. Every so often Local Motion has a sale of items that are 40-50% off. This is the place for me to shop for board shorts. The down side to this place is that because it is considered part of the outlet mall they don't have much updated clothing but the cost of the clothing is reasonable. read more

This location is somewhat part of the outlet. One of the best hometown Hawaii apparel shops, the store has a discount section from clothes of previous seasons. They have great deals and a large selection of their Local Motion brand as well as other surf/skate brand clothing. The staff I met were welcoming and greeting me from the get go. I come to this local motion ALLL the time (some of the workers know my name). I love this place, the employees are very friendly. They have good sales. The store is well kept, always clean. There's is one sales associate that I would love to put on the spot. Her name is Isis and she is so wonderful and helpful. She noticed that I always went straight to the sunglasses rack and there was nothing new whenever I visited the store and checked. I normally I'm a pretty cheerful and generous yelp reviewer in giving stars but these guys definitely need to hire some employees who enjoy having customer interactions. I can understand if the stores very busy and there's not enough employees to help out a large amount of customers in the store. Today when I went to the store this afternoon there were hardly any customers in the store there were ample employees not really sure what they were doing but what I do know is they weren't out there greeting the customers . I'm a local boy born and raised and I've always shopped at a local motion store to get my T-shirt sunglasses, surf shorts n tanks. This time I wanted to see some watches so I was standing by the watches looking through the glass intently for a few minutes wanting to try on one of the watches and trying to make eye contact with an employee or flag someone down.... Few min later...No deal... I decided to look at other merchandise in the store, I was in the store for about a good 15 minutes and not once did any of the employees come up and say "hey how are you?", "is there anything I could help you with?". I shopped at a lot of other outlet stores today and this store definitely did not provide a good personal shopping experience. Come on! Let's spread that Aloha spirit! It was my first experience at this store and right off the bat I was welcomed with friendly workers. I really enjoyed coming to this store. The workers there paid close attention to my needs and what I wanted. They were very attentive and helped my choose a great sunglasses for my boyfriend. They have good sales all the time and deals compared to other stores. I was skeptical about this place at first because of the recent bad reviews below me, but overall I had great customer service and never regret any of my purchases from local motion.
