This place flirted with a 5-star despite some early rust. I will say this area is on a down swing with a lot of stores emptied and vacant. Nice area though - and of course on a Thursday night, a table for 2 carried a 30min wait. Bar was full too so that wasn't an option I could pivot to. We were sat after getting the text that the table was ready and put in a drink order. I went with the blackberry margarita on the rocks and we added an order of guac for the table. I thought the guac was standard and the chips were a combo of baseball Diamond cuts and thin strips. Good taste to them. For the meal I went with the carnitas tacos (3) and added a chorizo one Ala carte. For the two sides I ordered lime rice and the slaw. The slaw was kind of bland - but the lime rice was total GAS. Wow. Great flavor, cooked perfectly, and probably my favorite side dish to date in 2023. The tacos come on corn tortillas - every good. Meat was tender and the sauce and garnish was great as well. Food: The food presentation is appeasing. And the modern twist on classic Mexican recipes are unique. But the taste of the food was pretty bland for my liking. No flavor depth. And a lot of items on the menu were made in house such as their flour tortillas but did not taste handmade. The food is perfect for people who do not like to cook with seasonings or spice. I think the elotes were the best tasting dish on the menu and cost a mere $5 while the fajitas were $26 and was not worth a return visit. Service: The server called the consomé of a birria dish "au jus." Lol. But all in all the service was spectacular. It was busy and we did not feel rushed or ignored. We took our chances. We thought that Thursday night after the rush would be ok. We were wrong. When we got there, parking is like at a shopping mall so you'll have to walk a little ways which is fine for us but maybe for others looking at this review. We went in and they put our name down and we waited a half hour as they guesstimated. We tried to shop at the surrounding stores but they were all closed at 7. Finally, after a short wait which maybe was less than 30 minutes, we were called, sat, we ordered and the food came out lightning fast. I really enjoyed the pineapple frozen marg. I used to LOVE Local Lime but the past few times the service has been absolutely terrible and so slow. The wait times are already ridiculous enough, so you'd expect the service to be better once you're seated and paying your left arm to eat dinner. It's also 900 degrees in there. Food drink and ambiance is always good. The problem is time. Do not come or order during typical busy hours if you expect anything to happen with a degree of speed. I've tried multiple times hoping things will get better. It seems when they sold, they managed to get worse. 6pm pickup for an online order. It's 6:30 and still standing and waiting. And I'm not the only one. Could set up a blind dating booth in the waiting area. Except for the fact everyone is stacked on top of each other. A trendy Mexican restaurant in the Promenade that checks quite a lot of boxes. If you're looking for a classic "chips and dip ready at your table" kind of restaurant, then this probably isn't your place. Located in the Chenal Promenade, Local Lime definitely fits the bill of a Mexican food joint that belongs at its upscale locale. My group and I walked in during dinner time and had a short five minute wait in a packed restaurant. I would definitely recommend reservations if you come at a busy time. Our table started off with an order of salsas and queso with chips. I never liked places where I have to pay for chips and salsa, but this place may have a good reason. Their signature Zucchini salsa may be one of the best salsas I've ever tried. That alone made the purchase worth it. I followed that with an order of 3 a la cart tacos with rice. I went with the 'Easy Tiger' Fish Taco, fried chicken, and of course the New Mexican zucchini. Well it probably shouldn't have shocked me that my favorite by far was the zucchini taco. I don't think I could ever order anything else on the menu after that amazing taste. Overall I really enjoyed my trip to Local Lime. It's in a great location with a ton of things to do around.
