Fish with tofu from the 3-item combo

Haven't been here in years and a friend had recently gone so I thought I'd try it again. Local Cafe is a great place to go if you want Hong Kong style cafe food. Lots of "comfort" dishes. They have a 3-item special for $43.99 which is a pretty good deal. It includes soup but does NOT include rice - you have to pay a couple more bucks for rice, which frankly feels like nickel-and-diming (because how much does rice cost?!). Apparently you need to order by scanning the QR code at your table, but I didn't realize that and the waitress kindly took our order for us. Food was tasty, seats were plentiful and there were even some arcade type machines. My friend who went earlier got tokens to play the games with her meal but we didn't get any with ours ... hmmm?! Was it a minimum purchase required, or because she went with kids? In summary, I'd come back for the good food, inviting atmosphere, and friendly wait staff.

This place does Hong Kong comfort food so well. I usually visit on weekends, and it's not terribly busy. Certain hours do get more traffic than others. The cafe is genuinely so cute - it reminds me so much of the restaurants I frequented in Hong Kong. There's a lot of orange furniture, fun posters, and cozy lighting. You order online, so there's not much employee interaction. The star of the show at Local Cafe is most definitely the divine dishes. Every single Hong Kong comfort food that you might crave can be found here, ranging from congee to spaghetti to fried rice. Their prices are also very decent considering how much food you get. I really like visiting during happy hour: they offer smaller portions of their main dishes for extremely affordable prices. If there's one dish I recommend getting here, it's the baked tomato pork chop rice. I think I'm obsessed with this dish. When I'm not eating this meal, I'm thinking about eating it. This dish is pure perfection in one bowl. The pork chop is tender and covered in a sweet, sour, and savory sauce. The pork chop rests on a bed of umami egg fried rice. Every single bite is pure comfort. I always crave this place when it's cold outside or I just really want the taste of home. All the other dishes I've tried here are also delicious, but the baked tomato pork chop rice is such a standout. You will not regret coming here! The food is just superb!

I came here one weekend afternoon for lunch. It was relatively busy. It was my first time here, I didn't know that you can just pick a seat and scan the QR code and they will take your order. I ordered their Baked Spaghetti Bolognese & Pork Chop Rice, French Toast with Peanut Sauce and Iced Hong Kong Milk Tea. The meal also came with some hot black tea, which was nice. The ice Hong Kong milk tea was good, nice black tea flavor and not too sweet. The French Toast with peanut sauce was like a peanut butter sandwich but fried with egg batter. It came with some syrup/honey and butter if you wanted to add it. The Baked Spaghetti Bolognese & Pork Chop Rice was a nice combination of spaghetti and half rice with egg in it, topped with a breaded pork chop and tomato sauce. The flavor of the tomato sauce was okay, I've had better. Portions are a good size and filling. I like having both the rice and the spaghetti, but definitely preferred the spaghetti more. Food came out pretty quickly after I ordered, decent place for Hong Kong style dishes.

As I was on my way to grab Thai food from my usual place, I noticed this restaurant a few doors down and decided I'd try something new!! Ordering system is through a QR code and there was a TON of options to choose from. After a bit of scrolling and contemplating I finally decided on the braised beef with noodles. The braised beef was extremely tender and flavorful however there seemed to be too much tendon/fat for my liking, which became a bit overwhelming. Unfortunately, I did not like the noodles as it was way too soft and wet with a strange taste that reminded me of towels. Overall, I don't see myself coming back anytime soon.

First HK cafe of the year! Came during Happy Hour and there was a deal for the Baked Pork Chop Rice that came with the Iced Lemon Tea! It was only around $13 for the two! Tried the Garlic Pork Ribs and House Special Fried Noodles for the first time. The pork ribs were a little too dry and there wasn't a lot of meat, so I wouldn't order it again. The House Special Fried Noodles was not bad! The noodles were crunchy and there was a good amount of sauce!

Hong Kong style restaurant with a very diverse menu. Lots of items you won't find at the typical Chinese restaurant.

A small restaurant specialized in serving hong kong cafe food. The food was mediocre. I would still return if I have any cravings.

It can be difficult at times to find parking in this lot. It's nice that they're open late for whatever the circumstances demand. They've got solid Hong Kong Cantonese chaa chan teng food. I come here when I just need an injection of greasy nostalgic feel good food. You order through a QR code and the only interactions with staff are when they bring you water or food and when you pay at the counter. We've come here twice before I got a chance to review so I'll just sum it up here. On our first visit, we had the wonton lo mein and the macaroni soup. Very standard HK fare. My mom used to make me macaroni soup all the time. Both dishes were nice and nostalgic. The second time, we got the braised tofu and combintion pan fried noodles. Turns out we were really craving gravy that day. Local cafe does a lot of things well! I would highly recommend their food. You don't come to a Chinese restaurant for service, you come for the food! If you pay in cash, there's a slight discount. They also give you 5 coins for their claw machine. A very cute feature, we had fun with it, but we were both bad at the game.

Been here a few times and so far it's been a good experience. The menu is quite large and diverse, a mix of Chinese and western influenced dishes. Some stand outs for us were, beef chow fun, scrambled egg with shrimp, Peking pork chop and yang zhou fried rice. You order via your smartphone using their QR code and the food comes out pretty quickly. Definitely worth checking out, come early especially during dinner time as it can get busy.

Decided to try this cafe/restaurant with friends today on a Sunday afternoon. We got there around 12:30 pm, and we were sat immediately. Once the lunch rush hit, it was packed and busy. You come there for the food, not the service as it's a fast paced environment, where servers immediately set plates, cutlery, tea, napkins, at your table once seated. It has a nice family style interior that's inviting and warm. There's even cute claw machines that you can play; they give you coins after your meal for 5 attempts. You'll order from a QR code then pay your bill at the front. We ordered 4 items of pan fried noodles, sides of rice, salt and pepper squid and salt and pepper tofu. All of our dishes arrived in 10 minutes. The pan fried noodles were a bit dry in flavor with some vegetables and I wish there were more vegetables. The noodle texture was soft to chew on and the sauce was underwhelming. The salt and pepper tofu/squid had great crunch textures. Not too overpowering salt and peppers seasoning but I wished there was more seasoning on it. Lots of onions and jalapeño slices though. A nice restaurant to dine in.

4.5 stars. This place is peak comfort food. I am obsessed with their baked tomato pork chop rice. It hits so hard if you are hungry and it's cold day. Also wash it down with the Hong Kong milk tea. When it's passed 10pm, you can get a smaller portion of the baked pork rice and then for just a dollar more, you can get a drink. The value is really good and even though the portion is smaller, it's still a good amount for a meal. The other dishes I ordered before were still pretty tasty, but don't expect extremely high quality. It's just good comfort food. I wouldn't recommend ordering the wings though during the happy hour time. It's like $12 for 4 pretty small wings. Overall, I highly recommend this spot if you're a fan of Hong Kong diner food

Local Cafe is tucked into a busy strip mall alongside several other restaurants. Parking can fill up during peak hours, but there's usually plenty of space if you don't mind a short walk from the outer edges of the lot.We stopped by on a weekend around lunchtime and found the place decently busy -- a good sign! The atmosphere had that authentic Hong Kong cafe energy with families and groups enjoying their meals. We ordered a selection of traditional Hong Kong style cafe dishes, and everything tasted really good. The flavors were authentic and hit the spot for what we were craving. Whether you're looking for classic comfort food or want to try something new, the menu delivers.Service was also on point -- our food came out decently fast despite the weekend crowd. The staff kept things moving efficiently without feeling rushed.Overall, Local Cafe is a great spot for solid Hong Kong style food in a casual setting. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area!

After they present your receipt, there's a line there asking for extra tip, as if 18% isn't enough? I was going to tip them well anyway so the forcing part was off-putting and sneaky. It inevitably left a bad taste. Regarding the legality of mandatory gratuity, they did disclose 18% service charge on menu. They also taxed on gratuity. They probably have a good lawyer telling them how to make mandatory gratuity legal. That is to use phrase "service charge" and print it on menu, which I didn't notice until much later. (From the picture I took.) A small group like us (party of three) should not be subject to mandatory gratuity. No one likes to be forced to tip. Tipping should be at free will. The concept is fun, but in this case quality did not really rise above quantity. The setup is self-serve: you order at a kiosk, grab your own water, and utensils come out with the food. After ordering, you pick up a number stand and bring it to your table. That part is straightforward, but the menu prices felt high, especially given that HK-style cafes are typically more budget-friendly. What we tried: * Mango Sunrise: The kids enjoyed this one, and it felt fairly priced for what it was. * HK OG Lemon Tea: You can customize ice and sweetness, which is a nice touch, but the flavor didn't really scream "OG." The tea lacked the depth and lemon brightness you'd expect from a classic version. * HK Style French Toast with Peanut Butter: Served cut into quarters with condensed milk on the side. It was decent, but nothing about it stood out enough to justify the higher price, especially knowing there are more affordable options nearby. * Satay Fish Ball / Siu Mai: These tasted like basic frozen snacks dressed up for the menu. The satay sauce didn't complement the fish balls well, and the siu mai texture was pasty rather than bouncy and satisfying. * Honey BBQ Chicken Wings: Four wings for around nine dollars felt steep, and they lacked crispness and that satisfying HK-style street barbecue flavor I was hoping for. * BBQ Pork Char Siu, Egg & Rice: The portion felt small for the price. The char siu had decent flavor but was overcooked, the "over easy" egg came out fully cooked through, and the vegetables were also overdone. While this place has a cute vibe and shows promise as an HK-inspired cafe, a lot of the authenticity and creativity you'd expect from that label just isn't there yet. For now, I'd call it more "HK-inspired" than true HK-style, and I'm not sure I'd go out of my way to come back.

The flavor is comforting and well-balanced without being overly salty, and the texture is smooth and satisfying. I highly recommend pairing it with their dough stick (youtiao). It's crispy on the outside, slightly chewy inside, while still staying light and fluffy. Dipping it into the congee completely changes the experience and honestly feels like a must-order combination. Another standout for me is the steamed spareribs with black bean and taro. The spareribs are tender and flavorful, and the black bean sauce adds a savory depth without overpowering the dish. Service continues to be efficient and well-organized, even when busy. One thing I noticed is that the restaurant is especially popular with elderly customers, which honestly says a lot about the food being comforting, traditional, and consistent. Almost every table had some combination of congee, rice rolls, and steamed dishes, which seems to be the way to go here. Overall, this is the kind of place that becomes easy to return to once you find your favorite dishes.

The Shrimp Rice Rolls are the clear star--the rice noodle is incredibly smooth and thin, which is the mark of a great chang fen. They don't skimp on the shrimp, and the sweet soy sauce ties it all together perfectly. For something heartier, the Wonton Noodle Soup features a very clean, savory broth and snap-to-the-bite noodles. The Pork Congee is also a winner; it's silky, flavorful, and exactly what you want on a cold day or when you're craving something soothing. We also grabbed the Shiu Mai, which were plump and well-seasoned with a great meat-to-shrimp ratio. The kitchen is efficient, and the flavors are consistently authentic. It's a reliable spot for a great quality, traditional meal that never misses the mark. Prices are reasonable and service is fairly quick but there's also a QR code for an optional online ordering for some.
