Stopped here on a suggestion from the owner of Coveted Yarn, a family relative of the owner of Lobsta Land. We were looking for a local, fresh, non-tourist trap place for a sit-down dinner. This was highly recommended and rightfully so. We ordered off the daily specials menu, starting with a pound of steamers as an app., a salmon stuffed with crab meat and a striped bass over a lobster risotto. A wine and beer rounded out the meal. We took some time to decide because the menu looked great with some tasty-sounding flavor combinations. The staff was friendly, patient, and helpful as we worked through and made our decisions. The olive tapenade that came with the bread was tasty and we never even gave the butter a thought. The Cesar salads were yummy, light, refreshing, and came with a nice bed of parm. cheese slices on top. The steamers were fun to eat and good, although a bit gritty. The main courses were great. The fishes were cooked superbly. We both swooned over the lobster risotto. I really liked my salmon and my spouse liked her bass. We left very happy and satisfied and are looking forward to return visits. Without the recommendation from the Coveted Yarn, we would probably skipped over this, but we hope to now become regulars. This is not a family friendly restaurant. The waitress was rude to my son, the service was horribly slow and they made ugly comments directly to mt son about basic child behavior. read more

On vacation in Boston and was given a tip from a local that this is THE place to go for lobster...and he was right. The name is a bit kitschy, but the lobster', served whole, was delicious. Our server, Christine was attentive and friendly and kept the beer flowing. Great experience. read more

Terrible food! Two stars only given for a nice waitress. Although, when my mom wanted to send back her lobster, the waitress didn't really know what to do. She was still nice enough. Watery clam chowder and tough, rubbery lobster like it was precooked then reheated - even the sides were bad (pasta salad, coleslaw, French fries). Definitely do NOT recommend!! read more

Just taking a ride on 128 North last Friday evening and decided to finally stop at Lobsta Land, which we've driven by hundreds of times. The wait was about 30 minutes and it was worth it. Went there for the first time last night and had the seafood risotto. Oh.My.Goodness! It was divine! My hubby had the paella, which was pretty good, but nothing to really rave about. I would return just for that amazing risotto, but definitely without our little ones next time as the wait was terribly long for our order - one hour from ordering to when it arrived. read more

We have been going to Lobsta Land for approx 20 years and always enjoying the food and service. Unfortunately the "service" is now non existent based on our last two visits. A recent renovation has expanded the lounge area - which we enjoy. However the kitchen seems overwhelmed (or understaffed?) Last evening it took almost 50 minutes for our meals to be served. The barmaid simply replied "the kitchen is very busy" when we asked to check on our meal. Really?? No problem pushing the booze... but the meals....oh well... unless you have 90 minutes plus to devote to your visit choose on of the other fine restaurants in the vicinity. read more

We've been coming to Gloucester for a decade to go to the beach, but we had never eaten at a local restaurant before. Lobsta Land was our first Gloucester Restaurant. From the moment we walked in, we felt welcome and it smelled great in there. The food was incredible. I had the Lazy Man's lobsta, which was delicious. We also ordered fried clams (I'm told they were excellent), Chicken quesadilla (which was excellent) and fried shrimp (also very good). Service was fast and checkout was easy. Our waitress was very nice and helpful and everything was exactly how we requested. We look forward to coming back. read more

Simply amazing seafood risotto. Plump full of succulent shrimp, scallops and lobster. Had the Buffalo scallops for an appetizer and hubby had beer battered haddock, both delicious also, but ohhhh, that risotto. ...mmmmm. read more

Outstanding seafood. We had clams, calamari, clam chowder, lobster and a Portuguese seafood stew - it was a LOT of food with very generous portions. Two things that would make this a five-star restaurant: if they were open all year and if the prices were a tad lower. Other than that, you can't beat this place for a great haddock sandwich (try the haddock reuben) or fisherman's platter. Portions are large (we always end up bringing food home), the house cole slaw is superb. Desserts are great too. If you are lucky enough to get a table with a view of the marsh, you will understand how a simple bar/restaurant can turn into a long-lasting memory. My father makes us take him there for at least one meal every time he is in town. If he's visiting during the winter, I just get the sad look when I have to explain that we have to wait until the spring. read more

I've hesitated trying this in the past b/c its sign and advertising seem so garish, blaring itself to vacationers on their way to summer cottages, but Lobsta Land is a solid 3.5, with some of the food almost a 4. Funny, tho, how the dirty windows overlooking the lovely marsh can detract from the overall pleasure of a good meal. On a late summer mid-afternoon this out-of-the-way local-feel bar and restaurant was the right laidbackness for my continuing hunt for really good but not overpriced seafood along the MA coast. There's nothing very appealing about its location near a ramp off Rt 128 into Gloucester except its easy parking and proximity to the marsh. It feels like the family joints we went to in upstate NY in the 1950s, with service as friendly and down to earth as it was then. Rooms dim even at mid-day, tables a bit too close together in a small, serviceable dining room, grateful for those large windows. With a cold beer to wash it down, the highly reviewed paella was surprisingly good, tho much soupier than expected. Abundant shellfish, chorizo, and tasty, brothy rice and peas made for a rich, filling, and satisfying meal. I was so pleased that I returned the next day for the also highly reviewed clam chowder and fish and chips, both so ample that I really needed only one of them. The chowder was delicious, rich but not overly thickened with clams and potatoes, but, alas, it was not served as hot as a good chowdah must be, and it could have been perfect with a little sherry added. The fried haddock also was very good, tho the fries were standard, and the cole slaw w raisins and apples is outstanding. This feels like a working man's haven--my father would have loved it. 3rd visit, during October Open Studios tour, surprisingly good fisherman's stew (sans rice, so lighter than the paella). Have taken to 4 stars, b/c so far--for the price--the seafood dishes have been better than all but the best at much higher prices elsewhere. Very friendly and accommodating service. Don't be fooled by packed parking lot on Saturdays--a biking group parks there. read more

Grat Food and Great Service. Stopped by on a Sunday afternoon after a day at the beach, got a table right away with a view and ordered the Lobster roll and clam Chowder combo (accompanied by a perfectly poured Guinness). The chowder was excellent and light with lots of fresh clams and perfectly seasoned potatoes. The lobster meat was incredibly fresh with a light dressing so as to not overpower the delicate meat. I have to say I hesitated visiting this place because of the corny name, but I really like it. If I had to sum it up, it would be a cut above your typical New England fare, but you will pay a higher price too. But hey, I don't mind paying a little extra for good food. They had me from the bread basket, because it comes with a little cup of black olive tepanade--so garlicky; I ate it not only with the bread, but with my salad, and even on my crab cake appetizer! Speaking of which, it was a perfectly decent couple of crab cakes served with a remoulade. Not as good as you'd get in Maryland, but still, very good. The first time I went they had a prix fixe meal--I had the crab cakes, steak shish kebab with onion rings served over smashed potatoes, and then a dessert of key lime pie for $21.00--a pretty good deal! The steak cubes were tender and served medium rare the way I requested with a nice sauce; the smashed potatoes are generous and well seasoned. The onion rings are very thin, and a little greasy--not a big fan of those. The key lime pie was okay--give it to my mom to take home for later. My second time there I had the Saturday night prime rib special--again, just great. I made yummy noises through the entire first half (I think I was just hungry). One of these days I'll try some of their seafood, which smells fantastic--but there are lots of places in Gloucester to get seafood....I did get the creme brulee dessert, and it was good; kind of reminded me of toasted marshmallows in flavor, which is not a bad thing. It did have a disconcerting black speckling all over the bottom of the dish, which turned out to be vanilla beans--I asked, because it wasn't immediately obvious! All in all, a very satisfying, slightly expensive place to have a meal. Family-style atmosphere; a little loud, but fun. Closes from mid-December - March....otherwise, I recommend! read more

Restaurant was recommended by a friend. Easy to get to off Rt 95 South exit 12. We sat in the bar side on a hi-top. Service was excellent. Vidalia onion vinegarette on a fresh side salad. Paella was excellent loaded with lob-stah , scallops, shrimp and swordfish servied Spicy w/ saffron and chorizo. My friend had the Salmon over Risotto and it was excellent also. Drinks are "hearty". Overall a great experience !! It gets crowded. Go early. read more

With a name like Lobsta Land you would expect to actually taste the lobster in one of their rolls. I ordered one their specials which came with clam chowder and a lobster roll for 25. The $20 lobster roll wasn't very large and was mostly buttered bread. Never in my life had I eaten a lobster which didn't have any taste. My personal opinion is it wasn't even lobster, but an imitation you would buy at stop and shop. I even tried putting salt, pepper, and dipped it in the chowder.. Still didn't taste right at all! The chowder was watery and resembles more of a fish stock stew. Service was decent, just the food wasn't worth the drive there. read more

I go here all the time for breakfast and I love it! I've never had to wait more than 5 minutes for a table and the staff is always very friendly. Their omelets are always hardy but light and the portion of home fires is perfect! My friend gets the french toast made with anadama bread and loves it! Only been there for lunch and dinner once or twice..crab cakes and buffalo chicken sandwich were pretty good..but breakfast is definitey my favorite there read more

I live in Gloucester. I've eaten at LL many times. I've always liked it, but tonight I ate a "chiefs special" and I'm still dreaming about it. What a fabulous meal. We were looking forward to coming here on opening day and when we arrived the parking lot was so full there were no spaces. Thinking it was packed, we almost left, but when we looked in the place was empty. Why are there always so many vehicles in the parking lot , even when the restaurant is not busy at all? Last week we stopped at lunchtime. I ordered fried clam appetizer, expecting maybe 12. Got about 30. No wonder it was $22. My husband craved some linquica, but was told they only served it at breakfast, so settled for excellent clam chowder. Today we went for breakfast. His cousin likes to go there for the Portugese breakfast including linquica. Yea, they had it today but apparently not every day. My 10" plate was covered in excellent corned beef hash. The two sweet bread servings of toast were delicious but way too much. A great place to go if you are a lumberjack or eating contest participant. read more
