After…read moretraipsing around the park on my lunch break, I strolled over to Soup 'r Samich to check out their offerings. There was no line (I was there close to 2, after the usual rush) and unfortunately the truck was out of my first choice, the roasted pork sandwich with pulled slow-roasted pork shoulder, Bermuda onion, Gruyere cheese, and natural garlic jus, pressed on grilled country white bread with a side of sweet & hot Wickles Pickles. Whew! Definitely high on the list for my next visit. I ended up ordering one of the specials, a grilled portopbello mushroom wrap with garlic extra virgin olive oil and balsamic dressing, feta, tomatoes, bermuda onions, organic greens, scallions, shredded Gruyere in a warm herb/garlic wrap. The sweet, tangy dressing, uber fresh veggies and garlicky goodness completely made my afternoon. I topped the meal off with a homemade Reese's brownie - and come on - what's not to love about that? At least I shared with Nick, who was off ordering at the Thai truck. Glad to see these guys out milling around the park. $6.75 for most sandwiches (not bad), and they're pretty sizeable and hearty. Decades earlier, Sneideman's wife said that he should make his own restaurant called "Skyscraper", in reference to New York City. Sneideman didn't end up opening a restaurant, but he did spend over 25 years in the culinary field where he spent time managing fast-casual restaurants. Eventually he decided that he wanted to work for himself and an opportunity for a new food truck came along. He finally had the chance to use the name "Skyscraper", and the focus of the menu became New York-style deli sandwiches. Many of the sandwiches feature corned beef or pastrami, such as 'Reubens' and 'Rachels'. Skyscraper Sandwiches can usually be found parked at breweries, wineries, farmers' markets, and various festivals throughout Connecticut. Sneideman is often assisted by members of his own family. My family and I sampled some of Skyscraper's delicious sandwiches this past autumn. We were visiting Long View Ciderhouse in Southington and Skyscraper Sandwiches was the scheduled food truck that day. I can't say no to a good Jewish-style deli sandwich. After looking over the menu, I ordered a "Turkey Cranberry Melt" (hand-carved roasted turkey, cranberry sauce, tomatoes, melted Swiss on grilled rye), my wife ordered the "Reuben" (pastrami, Swiss cheese, truck sauce, and sauerkraut on grilled rye), and our older son ordered the "Pastrami Grilled Cheese" (pastrami, melted Swiss, sweet onion jam on grilled rye). These were huge sandwiches and very filling! The meats were delicious as well as the rye bread that they use. The sandwiches paired well with our cider flights. The rye bread was awesome and expertly grilled. The turkey was outstanding and good juicy. And check out the pics and see the unique way they grooved the turkey. Loved it. The Swiss - melted! The coleslaw tasted fresh and provided the needed crunchy texture. My one small note - I could have used more Truck Sauce (said in a Christopher Walken voice). I plan on going back for the same exact breakfast sandwich tomorrow morning. And on and on after that if I keep getting g what I got today. I'll be telling my local pals as well. The size of the sandwich was huge and the Italian sausage (hot) was excellent. A huge plus was that the sandwich held together through the entire eating process. When you're eating at a roadside food truck and a sandwich falls apart-very aggravating! Not here however. The bun used was delicious as well. It wasn't just a standard hard roll. It was a perfect compliment to the whole deal. Tom was there to chat with. Very cool guy. The owner was a very nice lady. Great job! I'll be back (tomorrow)!

It was delicious and the cost was well below the average I have been paying. I highly recommend!!! A few things to note: 1. Cash Only and the nearest ATM is 4 miles away. 2. Most purchased their lunches from Small State Provisions with the Jambon Beurre the most ordered. Others inside had the Salmon Toast or Spicy Roast Beef. Outsiders ordered from Twin Beaks and had the Caesar Salad Fried Chicken Wrap. Everyone enjoyed what they had and all commented on the size of offerings and great price level. Cafē Pausa served most drink orders. They were amazed at the service and truly astounded that there was free water! Many commented they when they had family visitors at the retirement community they would ask to be taken there for lunch again. A very successful day which will be put on our schedule to come back as a group in some months to come. They all felt very welcome which is not always the reaction to a group of elders coming for a lunch date. PS: I brought back a chocolate chip cookie again as they are delectable and also got a Charcuterie Box to go which will be my meal tomorrow.

Warm colors, wood accents, friendly staff. Not an overwhelming menu, I always like to see a place that is focusing on core foods and not trying to do too much. The blues may be a little too loud, but blues music is the soundtrack to BBQ food, especially Memphis style, so it's a good fit. I got a two meat combo plate, with ribs, burnt endz, bacon mac and cheese, and dill potato salad. Let's address the lesser aspects so we can end on a high note. The burnt endz. I assume they're spelled with a z in the same way spray can cheese is cheez. I know that there are only going to be so many true burnt ends with bark and tender meat inside per brisket, and so a restaurant is likely going to supplement with chopped point. However, there should not be huge fat caps on most of the cubes, or just cubes of fat. At least having some true burnt ends in an order would be nice too. The mac and cheese I received was delivered lukewarm, and I'm not sure what was up with that, so I didn't eat much of it. Now for the high point finisher! Those ribs man. These things were spectacular, and the light slap of sauce on them was just right to deliver the brown sugar flavor to your mouth without being excessive, or drown out the meat itself. When all these other reviews rave about the ribs being worth a drive, they mean it. Also, the dill potato salad is a win. Not heavy, not slap you with vinegar or mustard, but flavorful with dill and bacon. I scraped the bottom of my bowl to get it all. All in all, worth a visit, and another joint in Colchester that adds to the prestigious food scene that town is building.
