I love Lizard's Thicket! I live in Charleston. Whenever I'm in the Columbia area, I visit Lizard's Thicket. It's probably my favorite part about Columbia. I love the southern cookin'. Mmm mmm. They have big menus on the wall. You can pick one meat and 3 sides for $11.99. They have about 10 different meats to choose from. They have probably 20 sides to choose from. It's so good. And relatively cheap! You also get cornbread and biscuits with your meal. They always have sweet tea. So come on in and get ya some. You will not regret this unless you're not southern / don't like southern food. When I went recently, I got pot roast as my meat. It comes with potatoes and carrots in the stew. I got macaroni and cheese as one of my sides. This is baked mac and cheese, southern style casserole. So good. I got black eyed peas too and fried cinnamon apples. I love fried apples yall. My better half went veggie plate with squash casserole, creamed corn, and carrot raisin salad. Both meals came with choice of bread and we went with corn bread. Dined in today, the food was hot, fresh and delicious. However, I placed a to go order before paying for my ticket. I paid for my in house and to go ticket and waited over 35-45 minutes for the to go to go order. Courtney,our server was terrific, she had to inform the cooks several times that I had been waiting for my order. There were customers that came in and paid for the meals and gone before me. Also, thanks to David as well for checking on orders for me and assisting me at the front. Not sure what were the issues. The person I got the food for said that the food was good and hot. The food was AWFUL! Go at your own risk and don't say you weren't warned! Our server was extremely kind and felt bad about our experience, but did not offer to replace anything or even get a manager. The chicken and dumplings had so much pepper and the dumplings were so mushy that it was like eating extra peppered gravy. The cornbread dressing, cornbread, corn, and country fried steak tasted like it had chemicals in it. The little bit that we did force down was so we wouldn't be starving on our travels. A lot of meat and three items on the Specials Board with an equal number of appealing items on the general menu For a meat, I ordered the Turkey and Dressing and for sides you can forego two side and get a salad which is what I did along with getting Fried Okra as my third. Salad while not fancy, was very fresh and made to order and was very good. The Turkey with Dressing was excellent and just the right portion size. Not to big and not to small, just right. Okra was perfect as well. My Friend had the Pork Chops which she thought were very good. With that, she also had mashed potatoes and gravy, with Okra as well. For desert she got a Carrot Cake to go. Good Service. Nice fancy but good Southern Cooking in a relaxed atmosphere. First time coming here, daughter and son-in-law are local, had to try. OMG amazing!!! Great food, wonderful service and the staff very friendly. My husband is handicapped, there wasn't an available handicap parking left , so we parked a little bit away. When we walked in there was a gentleman who said when we leave to just pull up to the front that was too far to wheel my husband. Our waitress was wonderful very attentive and very friendly.
