I love Lizard's Thicket! I live in Charleston. Whenever I'm in the Columbia area, I visit Lizard's Thicket. It's probably my favorite part about Columbia. I love the southern cookin'. Mmm mmm. They have big menus on the wall. You can pick one meat and 3 sides for $11.99. They have about 10 different meats to choose from. They have probably 20 sides to choose from. It's so good. And relatively cheap! You also get cornbread and biscuits with your meal. They always have sweet tea. So come on in and get ya some. You will not regret this unless you're not southern / don't like southern food. When I went recently, I got pot roast as my meat. It comes with potatoes and carrots in the stew. I got macaroni and cheese as one of my sides. This is baked mac and cheese, southern style casserole. So good. I got black eyed peas too and fried cinnamon apples. I love fried apples yall. Come try it out if you ain't yet. It's some good food you won't regret.

My table had an enjoyable experience at the Lizard's thicket! Our waitress wasn't the warmest, our food wasn't the hottest in temperature, but the flavor was nice and the prices were very reasonable! I recommend this place for anyone who enjoys home cooking cafeteria vibes like Luby's. I thought the cornbread was way superior to the rolls

Chicken Fried "Texas Style" steak with mashed potatoes gravy black eyed peas, and fried okra

Did a veggie plate and chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes, fried okra, and blacked peas. It was good. My better half went veggie plate with squash casserole, creamed corn, and carrot raisin salad. Both meals came with choice of bread and we went with corn bread. The veggie plate comes as individual containers. Cream corn was barely edible and tasted as if a good bit of sugar had been added. Rest was just ok. It's a mom and pop sort of place. Friendly staff. Cozy. But sort of mediocre overall.

A wonderful place- diner like- with delicious home cooked meals and scrumptious homemade desserts. $11.99 for a meat and 3 veggies/sides The staff was so friendly and accommodating. We really enjoyed it.

Cute little place off the main road. Very friendly staff. Very fair prices. Food is good - not super good, but like home cooked by a friend who isn't a chef, but cares about you. Salad is fresh. Salmon patty kinda thin but okay. Pork chop was good. The veggie sides are great and so is the corn bread! Plenty of wheelchair accessible parking, but no usable wheelchair accessible bathroom for a power chair user. Support local and family business and try them out.

They recently raised prices which is understandable, but to decrease portion size with a price increase is unfortunate and hard to swallow.

Aside from that and being seated twice. It was awesome seeing Laura in a manager position. As I said in a previous review that FEEL GOOD SHOT is LIFE! I ordered a flight of just that plus two! Well worth it! Although my waitress tried to update me a mocktail in a mug, and honestly when I saw it, straight NO. Ordered the Crispy Brussel sprouts, first batch came out burnt (from sight to smell you could tell). Immediately sent them back without touching them and got a fresh batch expedited by Laura. Proceeded to order the Lunch Break honey pecan chicken salad and tomato soup for my mother she loved everything but the shredded Romain lettuce chunks. I ordered the Salmon with green beans and breakfast potatoes. Unfortunately the green beans were swimming in a greasy liquid, so substituted more Brussel sprouts. The sweet potato pancakes were delicious and crispy edged. Last who ever made that salmon is top tier, crispy seared outside, yet flaky moist inside! Third time a charm!

BBQ Buffet!? Doc's…read moreBBQ is a must stop for anyone that's into BBQ with a big appetite. The setup here is buffet style all you can eat BBQ and side. YES! All you can eat. What an amazing concept. I can say that the food quality is pretty awesome especially considering the buffet style restaurant. I've been twice now and both times the food was awesome and they don't pull back on anything here. The only issue is they do have some weird hours but for what you get and how they do things it's totally worth a trip during lunch. I highly recommend hitting this spot if you're a fan of BBQ and have ever felt like you didn't here get enough of your favorite BBQ dishes.

Well, at $14.50 back then for the buffet, I thought I was in heaven. A huge array of choices that will induce the heart attack I was looking for. Price has obviously gone up a tick, but it's still a great deal imho. Since the restaurant was super busy, everything felt extremely fresh. As for mains, I guess I enjoyed the fried chicken a lot since I keep refilling ny plate with it. I also tried a little bit of everything else, including the bbq pulled pork, fried catfish nuggets, and meatloaf (Tuesday special). They were all good. As for sides, there were plenty to choose from. All the southern staples are here, like mac & cheese, collard greens, coleslaw, potato salad, hush puppies, etc. Don't forget to get some desserts too. I like their peach cobbler. A place like this can only survive in the south. I wish we had something remotely resembling Doc's back in NYC, but it'll never work. I'll just have to visit the south more often for gems like these.

Competition Quality-meat came easily off the bone but didn't fall off the bone. I had 2 slices of brisket and we shared Hush Puppies and their Mac and Cheese. Driving up you see the smoke from the smoking pit and you know from the smell, you made a good choice. Nothing fancy here- inside eating is very casual. They do a high volume of to go orders. This is a family run business and the staff are very knowledgeable and friendly. They seem very organized and gave a system in place for the pick up business that seemed to work well for them. The owners (I believe husband/wife) both came out and checked on us. We spoke for a little bit with each one. We felt welcomed and appreciated. OMG! I would've loved to share a slice of one of those triple layer cakes. Slices were extra generous but we were already taking home some brisket and Mac &Cheese. We will definitely come here again if we have to return for more tests
