Fried chicken, green beans, corn, and mac and cheese

So glad I found this place in Elgin. The food was so flavorful and delicious. As soon as i walkin I'm greeted and told to go down the buffet. Line. I decided to do all you can eat. The lady dipped the plate for you and let me know the server will meet me at the table and get my drink. The fried chicken was crispy and busting with flavor. I didn't even need to use hot sauce with it. I really have no complaints so I'll just list what I tasted. Mac and cheese, greenbeans, rice and gravy all good. Black eyed peas were the best I ever had. Meatloaf good and I liked how it was shaped like a ball. The banana pudding phenomenal. Lots of room to sit and not feel cramped. They also have a cute game/play area for the kids. I didn't get to try the salad bar because I ate too much of the main buffet. 10/10 will be back for more.

Fruit salad, banana pudding, strawberry cake pudding, I think it was called chocolate eclaire

I visited the Gyromania Grill at 2558 Main Street in Elgin…read morefor lunch today (First Time) and I was totally enthralled & impressed with the restaurant, the food, and the staff. Having moved down to South Carolina six years ago, & given the hyper local establishments nearby my home that offer something I can only say somewhat passes for a gyro sandwich, Gyromania Grill far exceeded my expectations, and passion for an Authentic gyro, the kind I recall from up in New York yonder. From the moment I walked into the restaurant, and was greeted by Sheila, to receiving my Hummus appetizer with pita bread triangles, to receiving my Gyro pita sandwich, I couldn't believe how authentically tasty & delicious the food was. The food is prepared fresh on the spot, nothing laying around in heating hampers, from the french fries that are cut fresh daily, and fried when ordered, to the veggies that garnish the Gyro, to the freshly prepared tzatziki, my taste buds exploded with excitement at how delicious everything tasted. Honestly, I never expected to have that sensation of a well prepared Gyro the likes of what I recalled from NY, down here in S.C. but alas, I found *THE* spot for authentic, Great tasting Greek food. The restaurant itself is bright, open, VERY CLEAN! (I mean, Extreme Clean!) You can tell the employees take pride in presenting the establishment and the food they serve in the spotlight. Watching the staff behind the counter prepare the food, I noted how friendly and happy everyone was, no "fanny frowner /why am I here" faces, and compared to oh so many other food establishments I've been to, that impressed me a lot. I originally was going to order the lemon potatoes with my gyro, but they weren't prepared when I ordered, yet once they were, Sheila and her assistant surprised me by bringing by a little sample for me to taste, so next time I come in, I will absolutely enjoy them with my order, but the greek seasoned fries that came with my Gyro were trey`delicious just the same! The restaurant atmosphere is nice, I got there right before the lunch crowd, so it wasn't too crowded, I'm told sometimes the place can get really packed (no doubt, people enjoy eating delicious & tasty food, & Gyromania Grill delivers that!) The portions are decent, the prices very reasonable, the staff is friendly, and even if you have to drive a little out of the way to get there (as I did) it's well worth the effort. I Absolutely WILL BE Returning again in the very near future, and look forward to sharing the Gyromania Grill experience with folks I know will appreciate how authentic and well prepared this food is. ***** 5-STARS ***** For Cleanliness, Quality, Service & Value! Put Gyromania on your bucket list of places to visit for a great meal! You won't regret it. `JT

We went here for lunch Friday as we were wanting a gyro. We both ordered the Gyro...I had the combo…read morewhich came with fries and a drink. My wife had the gyro with water. We were wanting to order a side of Saganaki cheese but the owner said he had to stop selling it as nobody ordered it. We were shocked. Apparently most people don't know what it is. Being from the Chicago area that was a key thing at all the Greek restaurants and we've never found anyone in town that made it. The first two times we went here we had it and it was very good. The Gyros we had were huge...really packed with lamb and all the fixings. The only thing we found wrong was the tzatziki sauce was put at the bottom of the pita. With all the fixings and everything that went on top of it you really only tasted the Tzatziki when you took a bite of the bottom. The meat and everything else is really piled on, so if you eat from the top there's no sauce. It would be nice if they would put a schmear of sauce along the whole pita and possibly some halfway in the gyro...or else give you a side of tsatziki to dip it in. They do sell it if you want to order extra. I'll do that next time. Nice place....good food. Their pricing for meals (salmon, etc) is about like the pricing you'd expect at a nice restaurant. Hopefully business will keep going well for them as there's really not much out in the northeast side as far as Greek food.

This is the best Mexican you're going to find around Elgin, seriously dont waste time anywhere…read moreelse. This is NOT a chain, so you're getting some of the best home-cooked food. The staff and owners are AWSOME!! Super friendly, pleasantly attentive, and people who will remember you with a smile the next time you come in. Chavelas has it's own private parking along the side of their building. They offer limited seating outdoor (which is covered) and ample seating indoor with both booth, tabletop, and Bartop options. It's football season, but dont worry as Chavelas has several T.V.'s for your viewing pleasure throughout the restaraunt and at the bar. The restaraunt is always clean which is one thing I always admire about here, they truly care at Chavella's. Lets talk food!! Today I ordered the Chavella's Special which is "a little bit of everything"; absolutely hit the spot!! The menu has all your favorites and some new ones you didn't know about, but be sure to look at the "Specials board" at the front as you walk in. Chavella's offers your normal fountain drinks, Jarritos (my favorite), Horchata, and many others. The full bar can bring a smile as well whether it's a beer, Michelangelo, or their own Sangria!!! If you are loving the fall weather and are looking for soup try their Carne En Su Jugo, it's one of their specials and for a great reason. Ask for their "House hot sauce" if you want a bit more Ying; it's soooooooo goooooooooood and not overbearing. If you make it into South Carolina, and find yourself close to Elgin, be sure to make Chavella's one of your planned stops.

My chile relleno was homemade by the owner who comes in daily at 6 am to prepare sauces, tortillas and other food items because store bought isn't good enough for their customers. They do things "old school " where pride and service and caring still matters and why they make flan from scratch. It's why their Margaritas are enormous and Sangrias have fresh fruit because that little extra means something. Our server Gigi said they are remodeling next week so now it will be even better. Don't settle for Americanized Mexican food , this is authentic and wonderful and made with love by an amazing family. Treat yourself to a culinary delight at Chavela's.

If you're looking for small-town charm paired with incredible flavor, this is absolutely the place. We even had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Ronnie himself. Hearing a bit about the experiences that inspired him to open the restaurant made the visit feel even more special. We tried the oxtail plate (an occasional special), and it was incredible -- super tender, melt-in-your-mouth meat. The mac and cheese was perfectly cheesy and salty in the best way, and the rice n hash was packed with flavor. Ronnie also let us try some brisket with his vinegar-based BBQ sauce. The brisket was succulent with really unique spices, and the sauce paired with it perfectly. If you're passing through Elgin, it's definitely worth the stop.

Friendly service and a massive amount of food for the price. Easy parking and quick service for takeaway. Overall, quite tasty. Mac and cheese is smoked - and in general, the food carries a stronger smoke flavor that I enjoyed. Cole slaw had a nice tang. Baked beans average at best. The main courses - really really tasty hash and rice. House made bbq sauce a nice tomato and vinegar. Ribs are strong contender. Well worth a visit if you are in the area!

We split a large Philly Cheesesteak and had an order of onion rings. The rings came out in about 15 minutes and there really weren't many onion rings in the metal plate they were served in...maybe 6-8 onion rings. She also brought ketchup with them so we asked for some ranch sauce to dip them in....she brought that out to us. The Philly steak came out a bit before 11:30 and we thought it took a little long to make a cheesesteak. Along with the Cheesesteak she brought out another order of onion rings and said she thought the first order really didn't have enough onion rings. I was impressed that she was aware of it. We weren't really impressed with the cheesesteak. It was very "wet" mainly because the cheese was so runny. It was a light colored cheese, not sure what type, and the meat was very finely chopped up. The bread was good and held up to the wetness of the sandwich. My wife ate about half of her half and didn't like it. I considered it just "ok" and probably will try their pizza or another dish next time. I like the atmosphere of the older place more than the new building. It seems very cold..lots of large windows, small metal chairs and tables (no booths), and plywood ceilings (noisy when crowded according to friends that have benen there). They do have a nice patio outside...just wish the inside was more inviting.

So I asked the young lady for Bo-rounds and she got them, but I still have this regular cup in my hand. I just walked off. Tea and soft drinks were all that was available at 9am.
