Went here today with friends. First time for them and we were immediately seated in a booth, drinks ordered and waitress answered questions and gave her recommendations. Our friends ordered a small onion ring for the table to start. I must say they were great. The onion did not pull out at all from the batter. Very hot and probably among the best I've had. I ordered the Mama Henry Burger with no tomato and crispy wing chips. My wife ordered the Philly Cheese Steak and Tots while our friends ordered the Fried Chicken sandwich with crispy wing chips and the Club Sandwich with Medium wing Chips. We all agreed that the wing chips were some of the best we've had. Perfectly done. My burger was very good. Fresh lettuced, red onion, cheddar cheese/bacon and on a nice bun. I'd order it again! My wife's Philly cheese steak was also very good. We all liked the meal. We had to ask about the home made ice cream. I'd been here once before and had a hard time believing they really make their ice cream here at the restaurant. They had (I think) 18 flavors. The waitress brought three of us a couple of small spoon samples to try out the flavors. We ended up each getting a scoop in a small bowl and it was excellent. I don't think I can resist not getting the ice cream when I go back here. And she did confirm that Mama Henry does make the ice cream at the restaurant. We were all pleased with everything! Mama Henry's Restaurant - A great find! Our ROMEO group of nine went to Mama Henry's today for the first time. None of us had ever been here before--or, for that matter, even heard of it. Since last week was our 200th restaurant we've visited, which we celebrated at Hall's, I figured we'd go in the opposite direction for today's luncheon and try a good old-fashioned local home-cooking establishment. I had seen a review of Mama Henry's a couple of weeks ago, and it piqued my interest. We arrived around 11:15, and our waitress, Mahkinzey, set us up in the back area by pulling several tables together. She took our drink orders and gave us some recommendations. When asked what she would recommend, she said the 16-hour pot roast was great, along with all of the burgers. She also recommended the catfish Po'Boy and another dish, and then told us to check out their homemade ice cream. Of course, we never order dessert at lunch! The menu is extensive, and we had quite an assortment of orders: two roast beef dinners with mashed potatoes and vegetables, two open-faced roast beef sandwiches, two different types of hot dogs, a Philly cheesesteak, a club sandwich, and a Mama Henry Burger with some great home fries. There was plenty of conversation about how great the menu looked, along with some discussion about what a trip it was to get here from Northeast Columbia. But just like last week... when the food was brought to the table, the talking stopped and the eating began! Mahkinzey was an excellent waitress. She brought extra ice for the iced tea, kept an eye on our table, and did a great job keeping everyone's drinks filled. When we finished our meals, she brought out the extensive list of homemade ice cream flavors and told us we could sample them. Now picture this: nine ROMEO guys who NEVER order dessert suddenly piling up around the front ice cream counter. We were checking out the flavors like kids at the ice cream shop. One member announced, "I just can't order the ice cream." He had worked out that morning and apparently still had some willpower left. He watched as eight of us returned to the table with a scoop of ice cream. Between us, we had sampled about five different flavors. The comments started flying about how good the ice cream was. Well, apparently the peer pressure--or perhaps the ice cream--was too much. Our workout-conscious ROMEO finally stepped up his game, went back to the counter, and ordered a scoop himself...He didn't regret it When it was time for the official ROMEO rating, and we already knew this one was going to be good. What we didn't expect was just how good. Mama Henry's received a 9.71 out of 10, which tied the rating we gave Hall's just one week ago for our 200th restaurant celebration. Not too shabby! This is the highest rating we've given any restaurant before (tied with Hall's) But here's the kicker: Mama Henry's cost us about half of what we paid at Hall's--and that included ice cream! For a group that visits a different restaurant almost every Tuesday, finding a place this good that none of us had even heard of is a pretty special discovery. It doesn't get much better than this place for nearby authentic home cooking. The menu is limited but we both were very happy with our selections last evening. All items were served promptly and tasted excellent. My wife had the catfish and I tried the chicken tenders. We also had a slice of cake for dessert and a scoop of their homemade ice cream. Mama Henry's deserves five stars for the off the charts home cooked food, five stars for the incredible service and another five stars for the ambiance. Simply perfect are the two words I'd choose to describe Mama Henry's. I can honestly say, for first timers at Mama Henry's we were welcomed and made to feel like regulars. Speaking of regulars, it's clear everyone there when we were, were regulars. Like family! We had the pleasure of meeting Emmie, the owner. I get the impression from seeing Emmie's interactions with all the people there, being treated like family or a long time friend is how everyone is treated. I'm not sure any one of the servers is better than another, because it's hard to top awesome. Our server was Mahkinzey and she was absolutely incredible. OMGoodness, I almost forgot. I need to add an additional five stars, for a total of a 20 star review. Mama Henry's (Emmie's) homemade ice cream is the hands down best. And that is coming from an ice cream connoisseur. I had the coconut banana and it was to die for. So many other flavors. I'm glad my wife talked me into getting something other than a safe flavor like vanilla. I am excited to try all the flavors. My wife had one of the best cheeseburgers ever and potato salad. I had a slow cooked pot roast with mashed potatoes and a side of cole slaw. Everything was off the charts perfect. One note about the slaw... it was so mild and fresh that you had that mild sweetness present, but could taste each veggie in the mix and experience the texture. Emmie's "Mama Henry's" is not just a restaurant or a cafe, it is an experience. You can see, smell, taste, feel and hear the love that is Mama Henry's. If you're anywhere within driving distance of West Columbia, South Carolina, do yourself a favor and stop in. YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT!!! We have found a new fav place to eat. read more

My family of three visited Mama Henry's on a Friday night around 5pm. The restaurant is very unassuming and almost looks like a home where it sits. If not for the outlined parking spots, you could easily miss that it's a restaurant rather than a home. When entering the restaurant, it's not immediately clear where to go. We were momentarily confused until one of the ladies sitting at a nearby table stood to greet us. After being seated, our waitress introduced herself quickly and took our drink and appetizer order. We ordered the spinach and artichoke dip. They do have a kids menu, but no milk or juice options are available - just a heads up! My family ordered the kids spaghetti, roast beef dinner (side of mashed potatoes and hush puppies), and the chicken Charlie (side salad and Mac and cheese). We were not impressed with our appetizer. The menu advertises that the chips are made in house, but they certainly don't taste that way. The spinach and artichoke dip seemed microwaved; it was hot on top, but everything underneath was lukewarm. It was also overly cheesy. My son loved the spaghetti and said to give it "20 out of 5" on my review. I felt it could have done with a piece of garlic bread or a meatball. He was still hungry, but luckily for him I had some extra food from my plate. My husband ordered the roast beef dinner and it was delicious. The menu advertises that the roast beef is cooked for 17 hours. It was very tender and the gravy that it was served and was delicious. The mashed potatoes were also good. We all tried the roast beef from my husband's plate and all thought it was very good. I ordered the chicken Charlie and much to my disappointment, it's a thin chicken breast that is breaded and then covered with the spinach and artichoke dip that I did not care for. The chicken seemed like it was maybe fried in oil that was old. It had a taste that was a bit off. It wasn't bad, but it certainly wasn't good. I would not order the chicken Charlie again. The mac and cheese was okay but could use some seasoning. My son enjoyed it. We all liked the hush puppies and shared them. The total for our bill was $58 before the tip. It included drinks, one appetizer, two adult entrees, and one kids meal. We would likely return, but I would definitely order something else next time. read more

We love this place! The chicken Alfredo is really good and they offer a small portion which I also appreciate. They have homemade ice cream that is delicious, the flavors can be a little random but there is always something worth trying. My favorite ice cream flavor is birthday cake and my husband likes the banana pudding flavor. read more

wow what a disspointment this place was . First off broccoli was raw . wrap was barely warm , could not eat it . the filling was okay but it was so chopped up who could tell what you were eating .
