Intimate bistro atmosphere, old school blues gently playing, fans wafting cool air and the smell of home cooking. Yes sometimes it's nice not to be in a chain restaurant or cooking at home, just in the moment of pure relaxation. This is how a Sunday morning should be. Service is personal, like they have known you forever, it's the South Carolina way. As an outsider, I relish in this experience, because it exists nowhere else I have ever lived. Now the food.. They will make it any way you want.. This is what perfection tastes like.

Stopped in for the first time today for lunch. I've been looking forward to trying this place since they opened. It was Valentine's Day and my wife and I were heading to another restaurant but the traffic was so crazy at lunchtime we decided to hit Elgin. It's a small restaurant with some small tables seating 2 and 4 people and they've got two larger tables if you have a larger group of 6 or possibly 8. It wasn't very crowded today with only about 5 tables working. We walked in and saw the daily special was chicken and dumplings with black eyed peas. My wife and I both decided that is what we would order. She isn't a huge fan of southern cooking and didn't see much anything else on the lunch menu except the Chicken and Dumplings or the Cobb Salad. The waitress came to take our order and we said we'd like the Chicken and Dumplings. She said we're out of that. Now it was 11:58 at the time...they opened at 11AM....and in 58 minutes they were out of the daily special. We were not impressed. So my wife ordered the Cobb salad. The waitress said we don't have any salads because the salad truck hadn't delivered them. Ok..now they're 0-2! She settled for the pimento burger without pimento cheese with a side of sweet potato fries. I opted for the Bourbon bacon burger with a side of Cowboy beans. She brought us each out a complimentary hoe cake which was good. The burgers were huge...and they were cooked well done as we liked them. It seemed like they were almost a 1/2 pound. Mine had two tomatoes, lettuce, bacon and I could hardly get it into my mouth it was so big. My wife said her burger was good and finished about half of it. The Cowboy beans were very good and also her fries. Waitress was ok but really never came by just to check on our food..but she did ask me if I wanted a refill on my tea when we were almost finished eating. They have a decent looking night menu. I would've liked to have tried their pork chop sandwich instead of the burger. My biggest complaint though is being out of your daily special after only being open for 58 minutes. I'm not sure if I'll return or not.

    Kid's Mac and cheese

Very quaint restaurant with cozy decor and friendly employees. The food was great! Cornbread is sweet. The edges almost tasted like cookies. We went for dinner and tried the fried chicken and étouffée. The fried chicken was crispy and cooked perfectly. Their coleslaw was crunchy, creamy, and had a zip of vinegar. Their Mac and cheese is very yummy! The étouffée had a southern twist, served over grits. Very warming and comforting meal. Also it was a big portion and filling. We had a piece of berry pie for dessert which had a delicious crumble crust/topping that resembled a berry crisp. Definitely recommend this restaurant. It's tucked away slightly off the main road, but what a gem for Elgin. We are looking forward to visiting again to try their lunch menu.

I visited the Gyromania Grill at 2558 Main Street in Elgin…read morefor lunch today (First Time) and I was totally enthralled & impressed with the restaurant, the food, and the staff. Having moved down to South Carolina six years ago, & given the hyper local establishments nearby my home that offer something I can only say somewhat passes for a gyro sandwich, Gyromania Grill far exceeded my expectations, and passion for an Authentic gyro, the kind I recall from up in New York yonder. From the moment I walked into the restaurant, and was greeted by Sheila, to receiving my Hummus appetizer with pita bread triangles, to receiving my Gyro pita sandwich, I couldn't believe how authentically tasty & delicious the food was. The food is prepared fresh on the spot, nothing laying around in heating hampers, from the french fries that are cut fresh daily, and fried when ordered, to the veggies that garnish the Gyro, to the freshly prepared tzatziki, my taste buds exploded with excitement at how delicious everything tasted. Honestly, I never expected to have that sensation of a well prepared Gyro the likes of what I recalled from NY, down here in S.C. but alas, I found *THE* spot for authentic, Great tasting Greek food. The restaurant itself is bright, open, VERY CLEAN! (I mean, Extreme Clean!) You can tell the employees take pride in presenting the establishment and the food they serve in the spotlight. Watching the staff behind the counter prepare the food, I noted how friendly and happy everyone was, no "fanny frowner /why am I here" faces, and compared to oh so many other food establishments I've been to, that impressed me a lot. I originally was going to order the lemon potatoes with my gyro, but they weren't prepared when I ordered, yet once they were, Sheila and her assistant surprised me by bringing by a little sample for me to taste, so next time I come in, I will absolutely enjoy them with my order, but the greek seasoned fries that came with my Gyro were trey`delicious just the same! The restaurant atmosphere is nice, I got there right before the lunch crowd, so it wasn't too crowded, I'm told sometimes the place can get really packed (no doubt, people enjoy eating delicious & tasty food, & Gyromania Grill delivers that!) The portions are decent, the prices very reasonable, the staff is friendly, and even if you have to drive a little out of the way to get there (as I did) it's well worth the effort. I Absolutely WILL BE Returning again in the very near future, and look forward to sharing the Gyromania Grill experience with folks I know will appreciate how authentic and well prepared this food is. ***** 5-STARS ***** For Cleanliness, Quality, Service & Value! Put Gyromania on your bucket list of places to visit for a great meal! You won't regret it. `JT

We were wanting to order a side of Saganaki cheese but the owner said he had to stop selling it as nobody ordered it. We were shocked. Apparently most people don't know what it is. Being from the Chicago area that was a key thing at all the Greek restaurants and we've never found anyone in town that made it. The first two times we went here we had it and it was very good. The Gyros we had were huge...really packed with lamb and all the fixings. The only thing we found wrong was the tzatziki sauce was put at the bottom of the pita. With all the fixings and everything that went on top of it you really only tasted the Tzatziki when you took a bite of the bottom. The meat and everything else is really piled on, so if you eat from the top there's no sauce. It would be nice if they would put a schmear of sauce along the whole pita and possibly some halfway in the gyro...or else give you a side of tsatziki to dip it in. They do sell it if you want to order extra. I'll do that next time. Nice place....good food. Their pricing for meals (salmon, etc) is about like the pricing you'd expect at a nice restaurant. Hopefully business will keep going well for them as there's really not much out in the northeast side as far as Greek food.

The staff and owners are AWSOME!! Super friendly, pleasantly attentive, and people who will remember you with a smile the next time you come in. It's football season, but dont worry as Chavelas has several T.V.'s for your viewing pleasure throughout the restaraunt and at the bar. The restaraunt is always clean which is one thing I always admire about here, they truly care at Chavella's. Lets talk food!! Today I ordered the Chavella's Special which is "a little bit of everything"; absolutely hit the spot!! The menu has all your favorites and some new ones you didn't know about, but be sure to look at the "Specials board" at the front as you walk in. Chavella's offers your normal fountain drinks, Jarritos (my favorite), Horchata, and many others. The full bar can bring a smile as well whether it's a beer, Michelangelo, or their own Sangria!!! We split a large Philly Cheesesteak and had an order of onion rings. The rings came out in about 15 minutes and there really weren't many onion rings in the metal plate they were served in...maybe 6-8 onion rings. She also brought ketchup with them so we asked for some ranch sauce to dip them in....she brought that out to us. The Philly steak came out a bit before 11:30 and we thought it took a little long to make a cheesesteak. Along with the Cheesesteak she brought out another order of onion rings and said she thought the first order really didn't have enough onion rings. I was impressed that she was aware of it. We weren't really impressed with the cheesesteak. It was very "wet" mainly because the cheese was so runny. It was a light colored cheese, not sure what type, and the meat was very finely chopped up. The bread was good and held up to the wetness of the sandwich. My wife ate about half of her half and didn't like it. I considered it just "ok" and probably will try their pizza or another dish next time. I like the atmosphere of the older place more than the new building. It seems very cold..lots of large windows, small metal chairs and tables (no booths), and plywood ceilings (noisy when crowded according to friends that have benen there). They do have a nice patio outside...just wish the inside was more inviting.
