Cool place in an old train station. Great service and the food was yummy. Started with the croissants. Then the San Francisco pasta and the Cali bowl with steak. The bowl with the mango was an unusual combo but tasty. The jalapeños were a little spicy. Pasta with the shrimp was good as well. Also a nice selection of wines by the glass for a reasonable price (under $10). Would go back when in Columbia

Veggie Burger

We arrived with a party of four and was seated immediately. We got in our drink orders and food. I ordered a Harvest Ember and it DID NOT DISAPPOINT. I'm kicking myself for not ordering another. It was GOOOOOD! Food options are low for vegetarians. I got the veggie burger. It was good. The avocado on it was fresh. My husband ordered the shrimp platter. The food came out hot and without asking they brought me ketchup for my fries. Our server was nice and attentive. I'd love to see more options on the menu for vegetarians say a veggie pasta, quinoa dish or a veggie soup.

Miso Salmon with charred broccoli

Our lunch today was incredible. My husband had the club with fries, and I had the miso salmon with broccoli. Everything was spot on. The host stand was friendly and accommodating and found us a table super quick. Zaid, our server was hands down one of the best ever. Drinks were refilled without asking, everything extra we asked for he brought. Plates were cleared at an appropriate pace. Just an all around fantastic experience.

Visiting USC and heard this place was a staple. It was very casual and family oriented. Right off the edge of campus, there were a variety of things on the menu. Charles our server was kind and gave great advice about the food. The drinks were also delicious! The wings and pasta were great!

Blackened Chicken Pasta

I have been excited to come here for quite some time. We came on a rainy and crowded day, but that didn't ruin the experience. We made reservations, so that moved things along nicely. Of course we started with a couple orders of the "famous croissants". From there I ordered the Blackened Chicken with Pasta and it came out with minimal wait. The dish was full of flavor and a pretty good portion size. For dessert we shared a slice of delicious cheesecake. Our server did a wonderful job of being attentive even after the food was delivered. The restaurant is well designed and the noise level wasn't too bad.

The restaurant is this old amazing building that is breathtaking to look at the character of the structure. (Exterior & interior). We ordered blackened chicken Alfredo, flounder, shrimp & a hamburger. Food tasted great! Our only complaint was on the loaded mashed potatoes we asked for no sour cream & both orders had sour cream. We did pay a $1.50 up charge for these mashed pots so it was disappointing they were wrong. Our waitress was great & the staff was very friendly.

The server was excellent and food was great. Atmosphere appropriate. There was not much wait time

My husband treated me to dinner for my birthday. The food and atmosphere is fabulous. But Mariah J was AMAZING. She was so nice (even though she was very busy), very attentive and added this special touch to my cheesecake! I very much appreciated her kind gesture.

Nice place for a college town, but mediocre food. The waitstaff was nice. But things are very slow down south.

Do you use a delivery service?

Hi Nate, No, we do not at this time.

Can anyone help me out with the days and times for happy hour? Also, if you need to be seated in the bar area?... I can't find this info on their website...

Happy hour at California Dreaming is Monday-Friday from 4-7pm. You only get happy hour prices if you sit at the bar or the tables that wrap around it. $2 beers, $2 wines, and $2 house liquors.

Theres seated my both inside and outside and the vibes are great. I've heard that their food is always great and you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Though I couldn't remember what I got last time I decided to go with something totally different and try the flounder wrap which was simple but out of this world! Soooo good, and with my wrap I did the truffle fries with a side of ranch and blue cheese. Everything was a hit and our server too was great. 10/10 great find for Columbia! The only downside about my born day is the close proximity to Valentine's day. Which can sometimes make the planning around the commercialized love day tricky... especially when it comes to restaurant reservations.... Womp womp. Backstreets Grill said they could accommodate a party of 8. They were clearly busy and with our party size we could understand. Nonetheless, we had a very loonnngggg wait, which was frustrating and deflating. We waited 4x the time the young ladies initially told us upon arrival. However, once we were finally seated things started to turn around slightly. I say slightly because we were seated on the enclosed patio, with a portable heater but several people were cold. Just to think they kept asking us and others if we wanted to sit outside. (It's February @ night). Now the food: Some of the dishes were more favorable than others and I must admit all of my personal choices were great. Appetizers: -Mussels - White Wine (My Order) -Fried Oysters (I tried) -Sesame Crusted Ahi Tuna -Lump Crab Dip (I tried) -Tomato Parmesan Soup (My Order) -Side House & Caesar Salads (I tried) I personally had the Mussels, which were perfect, and the tomato parmesan soup and both made you want to like the bowl. The broths were so good. I tried the fried oysters, they were also very good, but the presentation was a little messy. The Lump Crab Dip and the Sesame Crusted Ahi Tuna completely fell short and were not memorable at all and the side salads were sad. Entrées: -Cajun Chicken Pasta w/ Blackened Shrimp (My order) -Buffalo Chicken Pizza (I tried) -House-made Meatloaf w/ mashed potatoes & vegetables -Pork-chop w/ mashed potatoes & green beans -Chicken Bacon Ranch Quesadilla w/ Fries -Ribeye w/ Truffle Parmesan Fries My sister and I both ordered the Cajun Chicken pasta, I added the blackened shrimp to my order, we were both extremely happy. The dish was not spicy but it was well balanced. The recipients of the Meatloaf, Buffalo Chicken Pizza and the Quesadilla were all also pleased with their dishes. The folks that ordered the ribeye and the two pork-chops were not impressed... the dishes were just ok. Our server Adrian, was pleasant, but you can tell he was very overwhelmed which sometimes didn't translate well. As the night went on we understood he was being pulled in multiple directions at once and he did good despite of it. Overall I enjoyed my celebration and experience @ Backstreets Grill. Just A Note: I notice that they can get busy so be ready to wait. Even smaller parties were forced to stretch their patience.

The cocktails were the star of the night - ranging from $11 to $13 - both their classics and house creations were well balanced and worth trying. While certain items like the fries and the Brussels sprouts were great, other items like the burger and duck tacos didn't hit the mark with a burger that was too dry and overly charred and the tacos which were too gamey and could have used a some more acid. Do yourself a favor and look at the menu before coming in so you already know exactly what you'll try. Since I came with a friend we decided to to try two different bagels and the staff here were nice enough to cut them both in half to make it easier for us to share. The bagels were messy but you could tell they were freshly made and so good! We ended up sharing the ridgeland and neighborino. That didn't mean they weren't willing to make it for me though. I don't know if I ordered it exactly right, but the woman taking my order and I walked our way through it... the sandwich was delicious either way. This time I also got to try The Griswold (Turkey, bacon, provolone, pepper jack, lettuce, bbq & parm-peppercorn) and it might be a new favorite. This location is bigger than others I've been to. They had a bunch of tables inside and a large communal area outside with turf and a bunch of seating. Someone was even having a birthday party out there. What was even more disappointing was that when our waitress brought the bill, she clearly noticed I hadn't eaten the sandwich and chose not to ask about it. At this price point for lunch, I would have expected the situation to be handled a little differently. We sat in the covered outdoor area, which was nice, but there's also an uncovered outdoor section with older picnic tables that don't really match the vibe of a more upscale lunch spot. If you plan to sit outside, I'd recommend making your seating preference clear when booking.
