Hangover Hash
Sophea T.

The Hangover Hash has me in a chokehold -- it's my go-to every time. Their sweet tea is also amazing. I docked a star because the food can be hit-or-miss depending on the day, but when they get it right, it's exactly what you want from a casual brunch spot. Reliable, cozy, and just feels like a staple.

On our hunt for the next family favorite brunch spot we tried out the flying biscuit. Service was amazing and the restaurant was so cute! When it gets a little warmer they also have an outside patio you can eat at. Their menu sounded very promising, I ended up going with the fried green tomato blt that came with kettle chips and came with a fresh made biscuit, my husband went with the French toast, grits and chicken sausage patties and my daughter wanted a waffle with whipped cream. The cranberry apple butter was probably the highlight of my meal with the biscuit. My daughter loved her waffle- it was thick and fluffy and she ate almost the entire thing. The food came pretty fast and was ok. The portions for the price were on the smaller side. The food was ok- the highlight was for sure the service. If in the area and you want a quick breakfast check it out. There is plenty of parking behind the building as well which is a plus.

Straight Up THEFT! It's seems it's acceptable here for a server to round out the change to their benefit! I was to receive 7.38 change. They brought 7 and when I asked why I was told "Sir, I don't have 38 cents! She immediately got mad and said "here I'll just give you the dollar if it's THAT important to you!" Slammed a dollar on the table and ran off! I tried to explain I was just asking about the money to give a correct tip and she gave a mean look and ran into the kitchen. The owner came over and agreed it was technically "stealing". Offered to make it right(honestly he seems like a legit guy) but it's still THEFT! 38 cents or 38 dollars or 3.8 million! Her entitlement that my money is easier to earn than hers, thus she can just TAKE IT? Absurd. Grits were the best I ever had. Restaurant was spotless. Staff = Steals, so watch your check and change! Especially server "Quinn"

Enjoyed the breakfast here. Conveniently located in five points. The restaurant is fairly clean. Nice atmosphere with friendly and attentive service.

An delicious breakfast place! Love the strawberry French toast. If you don't like grits they will replace it with other stuff. Great place to have a brunch in five points area!

Order- Strawberry Creamchesse Stuffed French Toast, swap grits for Moon Dusted Potatoes Fantastic, especially the potatoes.

I just want to start off by saying this place had cold coffee. Ew! I told my waitress and she said "Oh, we just brewed a fresh pot" brought out more and yea, warm (kinda) coffee. Ew! When I got into the restaurant I was immediately greeted and was told to sit at the bar, which was fine. There wasn't anything overly amazing about the customer service that I can remember but the pancakes were good. So was the bacon! However, this place just didn't do it for me. I don't think I'll visit again. I did like that they have such an extensive menu + a tv at the bar area was cool. Try it. or not. . .up to you :) I guess.

Sunday brunch, there was a little wait since you can't pre-reserve a table. This is a small spot with a bar and seating area. All of the food was good only thing we did not like was that the waffle became extremely soggy from all the hot sauce that was on the hot chicken. The waitress we had was super friendly and was trying her best to keep up with all the tables she had, seems like they needed one more person helping her. The prices are very reasonable and portion sizes were great. This is a place I will visit again

Stopped here because my wife was looking for breakfast and this spot came up. As we walked in the ambiance was relaxed and lively. We were quickly greeted by a receptionist who advised us we needed to wait to be seated. A few minutes later we were seated. Menu had a bunch of good choices and I had to decide whether to go with old faithful choices or try something new. I tried something new and went with the Dirty Bird and Waffles and was not disappointed. The tenders were nice and juicy, with just the right amount of spice. My family ordered a few different items from the menu but the grits were what they raved about, even ordered some to take home for my wife. If I'm in Columbia again when they're open I'd definitely make the trip.

I want to try their French toast and strawberry's.

Always good food Service is slow, I don't mind it, except when I have to wait for coffee. They are friendly. Clean and bright

Location: 5 Parking: 5 Food quality: 5 Customer Service: 5 Affordability: 5 We decided to finally visit this business dor breakfast, that we've had stayed in yelp for a while now. Since we were nearby in the Five Points area, we wanted to see for ourselves what all the raves was for this Flying Buscuit location. It's conveniently located on Harden street in the Five points area, and they have on site customer parking. As we pulled up we noticed that they were very busy at 10am, so I'd recommend you going early in the morning. There is nearby street parking within walking distance, so you shouldn't have any issues with parking. As we entered we noticed that they had outdoor or indoor seating available. We decided to grab a couple of seats at their bar, so that way we wouldn't have to wait. Everything we ordered was seasoned very well, and we definitely enjoyed our breakfast. I've got to mention that their biscuits are very fluffy and delicious. I'm positive that we will return for another visit, because this visit was truly awesome!

I had really high expectations for my visit but left disappointed. I ordered the Georgia peaches & cream waffle breakfast. However, After reviewing the menu and receiving my waffle, I noticed a few toppings were missing. The eggs lacked seasoning and the waffle was basic. The grits were tasty. The orange juice, biscuit and mango mimosa were my favorite. The service was rather slow but my waiter and waitress did their best as it appeared they were busy. The location is convenient downtown Columbia with adequate parking. The outdoor seatings were a nice feature. Not sure if I would revisit or recommend.

Flying Biscuit is such a great addition to the Columbia area! I went on a weekday morning, so it wasn't crowded, and parking was not hectic. They have a very small lot adjacent to the building. Otherwise, it is street parking and possibly parking across the street, at your own risk, of course. The inside is a nice size. There are tables and a bar area. Customer service was pretty good, which is appreciated! The menu holds a pretty large variety, which is great. I ordered grits, of course, along with steak and eggs. I also ordered hot chocolate. It was all pretty good. The biscuit was tasty. I plan to try them again soon.

It probably would have been best to eat at the restaurant instead of getting food to go. Brunch is always best when fresh cooked and served.

The food was pretty good overall, but my chicken salad sandwich was extremely disappointing. The croissant was very dry, and the shredded chicken combined with the consistency of the dressing was not at all what I expected. After only a couple bites, I left the entire sandwich untouched. What was even more disappointing was that when our waitress brought the bill, she clearly noticed I hadn't eaten the sandwich and chose not to ask about it. At this price point for lunch, I would have expected the situation to be handled a little differently. We sat in the covered outdoor area, which was nice, but there's also an uncovered outdoor section with older picnic tables that don't really match the vibe of a more upscale lunch spot. If you plan to sit outside, I'd recommend making your seating preference clear when booking.

They were all so sweet and really went above and beyond to make sure it was a high-quality experience. I noticed that they openly advertise that they don't accept tips and have slightly higher prices in order to pay their workers a living wage, and the results were directly reflected in the customer service that I received. As for the food and drink (coffee), that was pretty good as well! While I do wish that they might have had bagels, the croissant that I substituted it for was warm, buttery, and tasty, and it was a nice change from my usual coffee shop meal, as I've only had a croissant a handful of times. The coffee was fine, and I loved how they offered free refills, which I've noticed that other local coffee shops usually don't. Finally, I loved the setting of the restaurant, which gave you the opportunity to either sit inside and enjoy the ambiance or on the outside patio and enjoy some peace and quiet. I also loved the artwork that they had on the walls, which the waitress informed me was painted by a local artist and which you could purchase if you wanted to. All-in-all, I loved smallSUGAR, will be back in the future, and would highly recommend stopping in!

Service was fine. Nothing particularly standout, but smooth and efficient. For drinks, the coffee was average. It wasn't bad by any means, just nothing memorable. Especially considering the price point. Food-wise, there were some highlights. The sweet potato bowl was well-dressed and flavorful, though it felt like it was missing a protein component to make it more complete. The shakshuka was very good overall, with great flavor, though it leaned a bit salty. The biggest issue was the bread portion. It simply wasn't enough for the dish. I ended up ordering an extra side, and while it's listed as two slices, it's really just one slice cut in half. At $4 for that portion, that is very unreasonable. That was a recurring theme. Pricing felt high across the board for what you receive. While the flavors were there, nothing really stood out as exceptional enough to justify the cost. Overall, not a bad visit. Just one where the value didn't quite match the experience.

Bison, elk, boar, rabbit. These are proteins you don't see on most menus. The restaurant leans into a woodland theme with greenery hanging throughout the space. It borders on a bit much, but the open kitchen visible from the dining room grounds the whole experience and adds a nice touch of theater. The seating was comfortable and well spaced, perfect for a family dinner where you actually want to hear each other talk. Our server was outstanding, easily 5 out of 5. She knew the menu cold, offered thoughtful recommendations, and struck that ideal balance of attentive without being intrusive. She made the evening better. The drinks were mostly a win. Two cocktails were excellent, creative and well balanced. A third was over iced and fell flat. Minor miss, but worth noting. The food is where The Hollow really shines. The charcuterie board was a fantastic start, featuring a well curated spread of wild game meats, quality cheeses, fig, and mustard. The mains delivered across the board: salmon, elk, and bison all came out beautifully with great flavor and generous portions. The sides deserved their own applause, which isn't something I say often. The dessert menu was the one soft spot. Nothing grabbed our attention, so we ended up heading across the street to Kaminsky's for something sweet. For a kitchen that puts this much care into everything else, the dessert offerings felt like an afterthought. A couple of notes on the bill to be aware of: we were charged a few dollars for swapping a vegetable side. There was a 3% credit card surcharge that caught us off guard. When you're out with the family and the tab runs into the hundreds $, most folks are paying with a card. That's a fee I'd want to know about upfront. On the menu, from the server, somewhere visible before the check arrives. The bottom line: The Hollow is a creative, well executed restaurant with standout food and excellent service. If you're in Columbia, it's well worth a reservation.

Upon entering the hostess informed us they were currently only serving the late night menu. We said no problem and elected to grab seats at the bar. There were several empty tables and a few empty seats @ the bar. However, the only two seats together at the bar needed to be cleared from the last patrons that were seated. We stood there for over 20 mins while Jacob continued to walk by never acknowledging us or the fact that we couldn't sit. When he finally cleared the dishes he just walked away, never cleaning the area. When he returned he still never greeted us or apologized for the wait, the mess... nothing. Jacob: What are you having? Me: Well hello... Jacob: Yea... what do you want? Me: Wow... ok. For starters can you please whip off the bar so we can properly have a seat. There is still food residue here from the last customers. ** we get a visible huff** He wipes down the bar and we proceed to order drinks, while he never really speak any more it's all via motions and body language. Amongst ourselves we check in with one another to confirm that we both were feeling very unwelcome. Instantly we decide that we will not be ordering anything additional and will be leaving after this one drink. Which is just as well because Jacob never returns. Someone , whom I can only assume was of a mangement status, asked if Jacob was helpful and we promptly and simultaneously said no and that we would like or bill. She shook her head in utter disbelief and disgust but then she also disappeared. Just so happened that Diamond, whom was on the other side of the bar happen to walk pass. She stopped and asked if we were ok after witnessing our frustration. We explained that we wanted the check and why we were leaving. She was super apologetic and closed out our tab. Her energy literal turned the experience around and if she would have came to our rescue sooner we would have considered staying. Thank you Diamond. Just A Note: Unfortunately, bad first impression because The Grand seems like it may offer a good time with the bowling lanes in the back.
