I am obsessed. David Noyes kicks serious tail during his Spin Classes and I love the variety and array of classes offered here. They have so many times to choose from, so I basically have no excuse for not going. Their classes are upbeat, go by fast and I really feel that I'm getting a great work out when I hit up any of their classes no matter the instructor. I feel motivated when I'm there and the instructors are helpful and welcoming to everyone of all spin levels. Great, clean and friendly environment. Been coming here for pilates for a few years now. Very happy with my experience at John Garey Fitness. They have a variety of times for the class I attend so I can always get in based on my work schedule. The instructors are very nice and feel like family now. The hubby and I were staying with my family for the holidays. Spending a week away from home in a non vacation setting with no maid or room service is always stressful, add to that all the eating out, cookies tamales and other holiday fair and you have a health disaster. John Garey's studio was my haven while I was down in Long Beach. I signed up for the 2 week unlimited group fitness fir $29 and took their boot camp and spinning tone classes. Both of the instructors were fantastic, in fact every single staff member I met was so incredibly friendly and helpful. Highly recommend this facility that allows you to work out in a outdoor setting while maintaining COVID safety protocols. Plenty of space between Pilates equipment, available parking, courteous staff, and a mild ocean breeze at afternoon sessions. Great mental break from WFH. read more

I have been going to JGP on and off for over 4 years. I completed the JGP Max and Summer Max Bootcamps earlier this year with John Garey. Both workout series really challenged me and allowed me to reach my fitness and weight goals. The more recent Summer Max bootcamp was the most challenging program I have ever been apart of at JGP. It was full of new workouts, new moves, and an even tougher John Garey. I loved it! I am always impressed with JGP's ability to bring new and cutting edge workouts to their studio. They are constantly looking for new ways to challenge their clients and are not satisfied with just the same routines every class. That is what keeps me coming back for more. My Fiance Jason signed me up and bought me a package to JGP probably about a month ago... I have to say this was the BEST gift I had ever gotten! I LOVE LOVE LOVE JGP. I go about 5 times a week, I take several different classes and it NEVER gets old. The instructors are so driven and motivating! It seems like everyone there loves their job and its just positive energy when you walk in the door! My body has not looked this good in years and I mentally feel great! I have been a client on and off for four years and the programs, class formats, instructors, and management team keep me coming back for more. I recently completed JGP Max and despite the hardwork I really enjoyed the program and my results were good. This month I signed up for a 3-month unlimited membership. I usually take 4 - 6 classes a week and this new option makes it even more affordable and allows flexibility to suit my schedule. The instructors are motivating, enthusiastic, and extremely professional yet fun. The studio and equipment are also well-maintained which is extremely important to me- I can't stand going to dirty gym. John and his team up their game consistently adding new programs such as TRX and increasing workout difficulty. Thanks JGP for keeping me in shape! read more

I was a member at JG Fitness & Pilates back in 2014 for a few years and had a wonderful experience! I loved the trainers, facility, front desk personnel, everything was awesome! I left JG when I moved out of town; and returned to JG a little over a year ago when I moved back. I took the teacher training courses and had a wonderful experience. The teacher trainers are incredible! I can't say enough good things about the trainers. The reason why I'm only giving JG one star is because of the new owner management. I cancelled my membership a few months ago (because I finished the teacher training classes and bought my own reformer to work out at home), and JG has continued to charge my credit card. I wrote into JG and spoke with the front desk girl and they told me that they have been charging my credit card for someone else's membership!!! (yes you heard that right, I was being charged for someone else's membership) I asked if they could refund me and the front desk girl forwarded my request and emails to the owner. It has been almost a week and I have not even been acknowledged or replied to. If it were $10 dollars, I could live with it but we are talking about little under one thousand dollars in fraudulent charges. There is no sense of urgency from this business to correct a mistake. It's really disappointing because I have so many wonderful memories at JG. Like the Wednesday mornings John would teach the advancer reformer classes, or coordinating my classes with all my friends. Such a bummer to part ways like this. read more

I need to start off by saying this place truly is great, awesome and professional staff, great classes, and clean nice facilities with state of the art equipment! No issues there! However, I've been less and less impressed lately. I've gone off and on for the last two years and they keep offering less and less classes I like. I love a full hour of cardio and they used to have rowing followed by spin, my absolute favorite, and now they don't. I do the off-peak membership now and there aren't any full hour spin classes offered for me either. There are few if not zero Barre classes, and they took away the 4-5pm classes on Mondays and Wednesdays. If you want to keep people, offer the classes they like. The ones I went to used to always be full, so why get rid of them???? Hope they adjust the schedule soon or I'll have to go elsewhere and that will truly upset me. read more

The 6 am crew is as close as it gets and Chase and Sarah S are the best trainers. I have been working out at JGP for about 7-8 months now and I feel like a review can hardly even do it justice! I LOVE this place :) I swear it has changed my body so much, it is absolutely amazing. The instructors are so wonderful...you can work out every day and never get bored. From bootcamps to spinning and pilates, everything is great. All the instructors are so willing to help you reach your goals and have so much wonderful information to share. Another awesome thing about this place is the almost "family" atmosphere. If you go regularly, it is so easy to make friends and chit chat with everyone...the clients and staff are so nice! No judgey people or negative energy to be found at JGP!! I am moving from the area next week, and I swear the thing I am most sad about is having to leave JGP. I absolutely LOVE it, and would recommend it to anyone who is ready to get in shape and have fun!! read more

I am a huge Pilates freak, on a miniature LA budget. I have been to studios all over the country, and this JG is certainly one I can recommend. I love the variety of classes offered, and every staff member, from the front desk on is so kind and accommodating. This studio makes you feel comfortable and at home, it's always appreciated when they remember your name. The only thing that keeps me on the hunt for other studios is the Pilates Mat availability. Working full time doesn't lend the luxury of morning and daytime work outs so there's really only 1 evening mat class that's make-able. Reformer group classes would be a great alternative, but I find the pricing high. So I am left praying that more mat classes are added/reformer group classes are dropped, otherwise the search continues. Overall, still a great studio! read more

This is the best gym in Long Beach. I never get bored with their wide selection of classes including TRX, Spinning, Pilates, Barre, etc... I do the monthly unlimited membership and the price per class ends up being really low. I also love prenatal pilates with Sarah! It's really rare to find a prenatal class that is safe but still very challenging. She's the best. read more

Is your time important, but still need a quick workout? I really enjoy the Express Spin class. In 30 min. My cardio is in and the flexibility of their scheduling fits for my busy day. But you I can stay for another express class, trampoline, trx, rowing, I just check what my time allows for that day. read more

This place is great! John Garey is awesome, a passionate health Guru and Gem to our long beach community. I took the "beach body clinic" and it was the 1st exercise program I stuck with. Currently, I discovered a great Pilates instructor here as well, Susan Hawk, she has so much patience and great energy. Im taking her Reformer Pure (for beginners) I am so excited to go back again. There are few gyms that I can walk into and feel it's a perfect fit. Being in the 55+crowd it was so nice to find a class that caters to people with issues in the knee and or back etc. The 11 am L.I.F.T class under Jake incorporated TRX, light weights and some cardio. Unfortunately after 4 years this instructor has left and the class just isn't the same. Now geared more to the 30 something age group only incorporating the low impact guideline. The 10:30 PURE reformer class with Susan remains the same way offering the essentials of Pilates. read more

Every class and every trainer is amazing. I have the group fitness monthly membership. It is very reasonable if you actually go to class. I am only able to go to evening classes and still my classes end up being about $3 or $4 each by the end of the month. I highly recommend getting the intro membership and going to every class you can to get a great feel for the studio. Some previous person wrote a not nice review of Heather and they are totally off. Heather is wonderful and I love her Barre classes. She is very attentive and gives great suggestions for modifications. read more

so i've been looking for a place to try pilates. somewhere close to home. and this was the best place i found. close and great reviews! i had called to ask what i should start with and with that said....they offer pilates mat, pilates circuit and pilates reformer+. i had no idea which to take and as a beginner, i wanted something that would tone my body -- nothing too crazy. so the lady i spoke with told me to try pilates reformer+! i went in three weeks ago and bought the 4 for $40, which expires in 3 months. but since i've been going once every week, i only have one more class left, but i love it! i gotta look into packages though. danielle, one of the instructors has been really helpful! i had my orientation with her and she advised me to jump right into class so that i could get a hang of the whole thing and not forget what to do, so i did. so far, every class i've been going to has been REALLY good. every week has been different. it's never the same thing and i feel like i'm learning something new every week, which is great! i don't like it when it gets boring, especially going to the gym...it gets repetitive. but this definitely isn't. if you're a beginning and looking for something exciting and new....definitely check this place out! read more

now that they are getting rid of the fitness, this will just turn into another snobby pilates studios just filled with old ladies just their for the social aspect and not there for a good workout. the group fitness was somewhat affordable but the pilates is too expensive.However I did like express cardio classes because I can't do an hour of cardio.. plus all the good pilates instructors left because JG couldn't keep up with the competition. read more

The membership prices are out of my budget, but anytime I could swing it for the last 1.5 years...I go here. The service is outstanding...they remember your name after like the first visit...how?!?! The first time with each new instructor, they walk up to me and introduce themselves. 99% the instructors are compassionate and eager to accommodate any injury to make exercise accessible to all...even those of us who aren't super-fit. There is a great variety of classes, all challenging! I love rowing and pilates classes. They just re-did the spin room, so I'm looking forward to checking that out soon. The class sizes are really small, so you get a lot of attention. There is a fee if you sign up for a class and cancel within 12 hours or don't show, but I get it because the small class are sizes. Plus it motivates me to go. It's a super clean place and everyone cleans equipment at the end of each workout. There are dressing rooms, but no showers. There is storage cubbies, water and bathrooms in each workout room. They offer a variety of memberships and do clinics too. Just really dig this place! read more

I have enjoyed the variety and challenge of all group classes I have taken so far. I would recommend the 2 week trial they offer. The only con is they charge if you sign up for class and cancel within 24 hours. Sometimes you wake up the day of class and are sick or have an emergency and it sucks that you'll get a charge on top of that. I would recommend taking the risk of it filling up and sign up the day of or right before class to avoid a cancel fee. I also wish they offered more Friday and weekend afternoon classes. The weekday afternoon times are great. If you take a lot of classes, the unlimited monthly plans are cheaper than other good gyms in LA. read more

John Garey Pilates reminds me a lot of the tv show Cheers (minus the booze of course) because 'everybody knows your name.' From the moment you check in you feel so welcome and the energy is indescribable. A lot of thought has gone into making the studio user friendly and addicting! Once you start going you just can't stop! There are a variety of different classes and my favorite is spin! The instructors all add their personal touch to their classes so every time you go you get a different experience....and you always leave a sweaty mess. This month I joined the JGP Max program - a 4 days a week, 8 weeks total boot camp - and man does it rock! By Thursday you have worked out every part of your body and you feel like a million bucks. We just finished week 2 and I can already tell a difference in my endurance and my muscles...bring on the tone! My coach, Joe, is a one of a kind instructor and he works hard day after day to exceed our exercise goals. If you are looking for a clean, modern, enthusiastic studio that kicks your butt, then John Garey Pilates is the perfect place for you! read more

I LOVE this place!!!!! I really think I spend too much time here. Everyone is friendly and all the instructors are very experienced and knowledgable. It's a bit pricey, but totally worth the money and time. Been with them for 6 months now, and I really leaned out A LOT. Been getting compliments from left and right. I mean duh, that is the point for working out. And being healthy is just a bonus. Jk. (totally have that reversed, but that's my philosophy) All the instructors are very good & dedicated, but Alexen, Joe, and Ricca are my favorite... Alexen has a spunky & adorable personality. He genuinely cares about your goals, and what you are trying to achieve. His classes are challenging. I prefer his barre class over the ones at bar method & pure barre, and I've tried them all. Joe is super energetic and encouraging. Love his TRX class. But I hate it that their classes are always so full!! I guess many people feel the same way... Ricca's class is challenging also. She is very hands on; she corrects your posture and that will help you get the most out of your workout! In her barre classes she throws in a few ballet routine... it's super fun! I love it! Lately I've been taking Todd's bootcamp. It makes me feel like i'm in a dirty hiphop/rap music video circa 2000-2006. LOVE IT. He's hilarious. Do mix up the classes... You'll get better results. (but obviously still gotta watch what you eat) Super addicted to this place.... And if you don't have much time and want to get faster result, take their XTC program. read more

This review is a little late but better late than never! I've been wanting to try a trampoline class after seeing it on social media. I moved to Long beach less than a year ago and have been trying different fitness studios and stumbled upon John Garey where Fitz teaches. I tried the 30 minute trampoline class followed by 30 minute strength class, both by Fitz. Wow! I was sore for two days after. The trampoline class is really fun and easier to learn than I had expected. Fitz took the time to teach me the proper technique. I wish the studio was closer to where I live so I could be a regular at John Garey! read more
