While we waited they put on skate videos for our entertainment, on their old school tube tv, and made us feel welcomed. The owner came in later, chatted with the both of us, and gave my daughter some stickers and magazines. As a previous skater during the Tony Hawk days, this brought back good memories.

Orbit is a piercing shop, skate shop, and boutique located in San Leandro, California. It's a small local business that has been run by the same owner, Sal, since 2001, and now his son works alongside him -- a true family business and honestly part of what makes this place so special. Today my son and I stopped by to have our piercing jewelry changed, and as always, the experience was fast, friendly, and incredibly clean. I was genuinely impressed (yet again) by the hygiene practices and professionalism throughout the entire process. There's a reason I've been coming here for over two decades. I first started coming to Orbit around 2000/2001 with just two piercings. By 2005, I had 28 piercings, and now I'm down to 8 -- but Orbit has remained my go-to through every phase. The shop stays busy, and for good reason. If you go, be prepared to wait, especially during the after-3pm rush or weekends. But the level of knowledge, the environment, and the overall experience make it completely worth it. One thing I really appreciate is that they genuinely care about their clients instead of rushing people in and out. It can get hectic at times -- one person may start helping you and another may jump in a few minutes later -- but they work together so seamlessly that it feels like one continuous experience. Dandy told us she opened the shop back in 1998 right after graduating from UC Berkeley, and she's kept it going ever since. In today's world, when so many people just buy straight from brands online, it's amazing to see a brick-and-mortar shop like this still thriving. It's not easy, but it's clear how much she cares about her community and her customers. The shop itself is fantastic--great selection of shoes, clothes, hats, skateboard decks, trucks, and more. The vibe is super friendly and laid-back, and you can tell it's a real community hub. Honestly, 510 is a total asset to the Bay Area. We'll definitely be back.

They have live music upfront, as well as a dedicated performance space in the back of their store. They also had a great selection of free stickers that we saw on our way out. And they sell skateboards and skate paraphernalia. The only downside, which is the case for most modern records stores, is the prices reflect how popular vinyl is these days and most of the records in the front section are selling for at least $30. However... to contrast that, I saw records in their used section for as cheap as $.97, which is really great. Highly recommend.

He's super knowledgeable and super supportive. I never felt like I was being upsold on any of the items. He was really invested in finding the right board for my kid and my budget. As a parent who doesn't know much about skateboarding, I was really emphasizing my son ignoring how the board looked, and instead focusing on how it felt. Tom really quietly took me aside and helped me understand that it was also important for my son to have a board that he likes the look of so he's confident on it at the skate parks. I really appreciated Tom doing this. He was super respectful AND made sure I had good information to help my kid. That's a hard balance to strike, and he did it perfectly. After building the board, Tom offered to teach my son the basics, and even invited him to come back that evening when some pro skateboarders would be coming by. Everyone was super chill and supportive. My kid learned how to get in and out of the bowl by himself, basic skate etiquette, and that evening really created an incredibly positive first experience with skateboarding that will last him a long time. Tom's whole demeanor is that of a long time teacher / mentor. He's easy to talk to (found out he took college level music classes from my mom back in the day!), he knows his stuff, and he's invested in the community. I would 100% go back for any other skateboard items we need!
