Top to bottom: Fire Fighter roll and Lauri's Shaggy Dog Roll
Mariah K.

My first impression of this place was that it pretty small, but seems traditional. They do have some outdoor seating but when you get inside they have more tables, booths, their "island" of a sushi bar, and then to the right of that is traditional seating where you would be sitting on the floor and you're required to take your shoes off. You order and pay once you arrive, then once they seat you, your order comes. Their menu is actually pretty large. They don't just have sushi, they offer hibachi, bento specials, Donburi, noodles, and dessert. I have to say it was very different for me but I did enjoy myself. It was pretty quiet, it seemed like they were a bit short staffed but everyone was polite and I thought my food came out it a timely manner. I ordered their miso soup, Fire Fighter roll, and Lauri's Shaggy Dog roll. The miso soup was good, nothing different from the ordinary, I'm just glad it wasn't watered down. The Fire Fighter roll, which was my favorite of the two, had a lot of flavor. It has tuna, yellowtail, crab, eel, spicy tuna, salmon, and topped with spicy teriyaki sauce and green onions. Their Lauri's Shaggy Dog roll wasn't too impressive, I thought it was dry, but it has crab, super white tuna, shrimp tempura, mayo fish eggs, topped with green onions and wrapped in soy paper. Overall I enjoyed my experience here and I'm excited that they have such a different variety of sushi rolls! I'll have to come back to try the others and even some of their non sushi dishes, I would definitely recommend this place for anyone looking for some Japanese food.

It's been years since I've been back to Little Tokyo, but the quantity of food, especially the sushi, has greatly expanded! The décor in one section of the restaurant makes you feel like you're eating at a stall in Japan. Little Tokyo allows companies and other establishments to advertise their business at their restaurant. They can even place their business cards there for visiting customers to take with them. They don't charge for that either. Unfortunately, that's all I can say that's positive about Little Tokyo. First, the location is difficult and easy to miss. We ordered food to go, but the long wait was ridiculous. It was past lunch, the restaurant wasn't packed, yet they made us wait for almost 40 minutes cooking our food. We didn't order a lot and our orders were simple. Unacceptable! Their fried rice lacked seasoning, and my friend said her Teriyaki shrimp was terrible. My chicken katsu curry rice was SUPPOSED to be like actual Asian curry rice, but NO, it tasted like plain Indian curry to me! It wasn't even spicy. Does this establishment not know how to properly prepare authentic curry rice!?! They also gave us wonton strips by mistake, thankfully they didn't charge us for it. I'm not coming back to Little Tokyo unless they improve the quality of their food. My brother and his wife may come here for their expansive sushi menu. They're both sushi fanatics.

Sorry, I can't recommend this one. Not even the fried rice made the cut - and if they can't even get that right, well...

Did you know? Yama in Japanese literally means: "mountain" or a name for a Japanese restaurant that…read moreserves food in an aesthetically pleasing way, My first ever sit down. Food: Enticing to the eyes, fresh, and quality is top notch. I definitely recommend. You get more for your money the average cost per person dinner was 34. Service: Our first time here to the "mountain " and I must say we were met with smiles and courtesy by the manager/owner. Waitress who sat our party was friendly . Our waiter who was Derrick, was so knowledgeable on the menu and was prompt in checking in on us. He really made our experience one in which we will come back! Ambiance: How can you not love Pikachu. Enough said but the overhead star lighting on the ceiling combines with the sports like TV's, the bar area was nice to sit and eat. If you order from bar they will grill you proteins prior to bringing out. Guest Centerpoint table grill was clean also had spray oil, staff made rounds frequently to change out the centerpoint grill for a fresh one. I observed them cleaning a section after guest departed inwhich included a wiping down of the entire seats top and bottom and back ( wow impressive!!). It's not only a family oriented restaurant, but if you only want to go have drinks maybe watch the Game this is the SPOT to be. Final: I never ate Japanese food where it was brought raw (AI robot) and we were able to grill it. I must say Yama Kitchen where have you been all my life? I highly recommend and thank you to the two managers and Derrick for making our first visit a memorable one. Oh lastly we were given a sample of: Japanese Plum wine, it was delicious!

The music was playing hits back to back and if its your birthday they have pikachu come out with "bottle service vibes" lol. Food: 5/10 Would not come back again for this. They do have a buffet station with a decent selection. They had mixed seafood (crawfish, muscles, and shrimp), a few soup options, lots of fried foods, and salads. They don't have a big variety of meat selections compared to other KBBQ spots. We did try most of the meats and they all tasted just about the same, it was nothing really special. The sashimi was okay, it came out a bit warmer than what I expected. Overall I would rate this place a 6.5/10. **Note: my brother did say the food here destroyed his stomach!
