Ok ok, what's better than driving to Canada to eat vegan food, I'll tell you .. driving to Canada to eat vegan food while meeting new vegan friends! We decided to meet up at Mila Plant-Based, 100% vegan restaurant in the downtown area sort of right in-between Downtown Eastside, Science World, and Gastown. The restaurant has a lovely, quaint ambiance, feels very welcoming upon entering. The bathroom was .. well, posh! I don't normally make a point to comment on bathroom decor, while average in size, I felt like I was being upgraded to First Class lol. Ok, moving right along .. lol They have two menus, a Weekend Brunch Menu and, for all other hours, a Lunch/Dinner Menu, ..we ordered from the Weekend Brunch Menu. I had the Bibimbap Bowl - rice bowl with Yo Egg, mushroom bacon, kimchi, tempura yam, cucumber, carrot, gochujang sauce. This bowl had many layers of unique flavors all married perfectly in every exquisite bite, I say this very sincerely! My wife ordered the Pina Colada Pancakes - pancakes, toasted coconut syrup, cashews, cocktail cherries, rum-candied pineapple, mint. Each bite easily lived up to the the decadence displayed in the included image. We absolutely have to find our way back to Mila to try their Lunch/Dinner menu as it includes some amazing sounding options such as, Feta Stuffed Date - date, feta, pistachio, olive oil, maldon salt, ABURI LOX OSHI - carrot lox, aburi sauce, shiso, serrano, 6 pieces, Tuna Crispy Rice - watermelon akami tuna, sushi rice, lime kewpie mayo, green onion, sesame seeds, 3 pieces, and much more. We had quite a few options to choose from regarding where to meet for brunch, with every option sounding wonderful in their own way. Ultimately, we decided on Mila because of their unique, fresh and inspiring sounding dishes and yeah, they did not disappoint. Thanks so much for dropping by and reading this review. Do yourself a favor and extend the same courtesy to Mila by ... dropping by .. and enjoying some amazing tasty food.

I got the Bao, Tostada, Crispy rice and one more piece of sushi to try. The server was kind and recommended all of the dishes I ordered. There was nothing I would not want to taste for a second time! The restaurant was decorated nicely, but nothing remarkable so I was surprised by the presentation of the food!

Very tasty, artistic all-vegan food in a super comfortable, homey and inviting little…read morecafe/restaurant, with exceptional service. Great experience. My wife & I stopped in for a late brunch. We each ordered a cortado ($4) and a benny: I got the standard "sweet & smoky bacon benny", and my wife got the special benny (which rotates) (each $22 -- a little steep but worth it for the artistry of the dishes and the great decor). The standard benny comes with two scrambled tofu "eggs", seasoned wonderfully, with plant-based bacon, a bit of spinach, tomato, and cashew hollandaise, all served on top of stringy hashbrowns. The special came with 2 Yo eggs (I believe), which leak out "yolk" when you puncture them, like real eggs, served with plant-based bacon, cabbage, and micro greens. Both very tasty. We would have both preferred the bennies to be served on standard English muffins. As is, the hashbrown base is a bit too oily/fried and lacking that hearty feeling, and the waffle base was simply too sweet (a more savoury waffle might work better). But still, both dishes were very enjoyable, artistic, and thoughtfully constructed. If it were up to me, I'd add some healthier options to the brunch menu -- maybe a brunch bowl, give the option of an English muffin base for the bennies, and items with more veggies. Overall, an excellent experience. Highly recommended.

I enjoyed two meals here on Wednesday and plan to return again on Thursday for at least one more…read more This is a 100% vegan establishment. For lunch, I ordered their Meetball Sub. The D2E meetballs were so satisfying. The topping of spicy mayo complimented the sandwich well. The Sub is well worth the $18. Because I enjoyed my lunch so much I returned for dinner. It exceeded my expectations. I started my dinner with an aperitif, one of their signature cocktail, Mezcal Fizz. It's cranberry, soda and sweet rosemary. It's worth the asking $13. It was light and very refreshin, making it the perfect pre-dinner cocktail. I'm a huge carbonara fan and seeing it on their menu I had to try the vegan version. I'm not going to lie and say you can't tell a differenc, but I'm also not going to lie and say it wasn't good because it was great. It was very flavorful and creamy. The vegan bacon even had a nice smokey flavor. At $25 I would for certain recommend and even enjoy this again myself. I ended a pleasurable dining experience with a serving of cashew strawberry ice cream. OMG for someone who isn't a fan of strawberry ice cream to begin with, this is one I could get behind. Highly recommend asking for a serving yourself. If you're in the area I most def give two thumbs up in recommending Down 2 Earth Plant Parlour. I've already recommended it to the locals I've worked with this week. If travels bring me to Vancouver I would def return to dine in.

So to say I was extremely excited is an understatement. We ordered the Sourdough (with House Cultured Butter, Vancouver Island Sea Salt) Shiitake (with Soy Braised Squash, Kelp, Ginger,Lemongrass) Cabbage with Brown Butter and Pomme Dauphinois Harvest which was house made ravioli stuffed with chicken of the woods. For dessert the Plum with Fig Leaf, Miso Honeycomb and Thai Basil Sourdough was good. No arguments there. The shiitake was fine, palatable. The cabbage and potato were very bland and made me question why the Acorn is so hyped. It was so bland i didn't finish it. Keep in mind SERVING SIZES ARE TINY. The ravioli were practically inedible the chicken of the woods was beyond overly salted and the pasta wasn't cooked. We joked that al dente was at least touching water. This pasta has never heard of water. Easily one of if not THE WORST PASTA I've ever had at a restaurant in the past few years. Thank goodness the plum dessert was yummy. Very good. But truly I don't understand why people rave about The Acorn. I love food. Im a vegetarian but it's hard to comprehend why it's so hyped. Maybe there was a new cook? Maybe it was an off night? Crossed off my Vancouver bucket list. It took me a while to write this review because I frankly was in shock the contrast between the actual food vs the lore it has around town. The highlights were a basic sourdough and a well balanced dessert. That just feels so wrong.
