The service was wonderful - our waitress answered all of our questions, adjusted the chef's sampler platter to suit allergies, and was just so friendly and nice. I'll say that the appetizer dish was fine overall - nothing blew me out of the water. BUT the main dish -- stewed okra with lamb on it -- AMAZING. I would return just for that, seriously. A lovely little oasis in a sea of mobbed, overcrowded bar/restaurants with 45-60 minute waits for standard pub fare. This is a cozy, welcoming establishment - subtle, warm decor - the kind of place you're immediately so comfortable in, you start hoping the experience lives up to it, as you're already anticipating wanting to come back. I started with the red lentil soup, which was absolutely superb. It was Mulligatawny-style (completely pureed), but with more middle-eastern spices - the combination of mint and a hint of red pepper was amazing. From the meze plates, the hummus was great and the eggplant salad was excellent as well. Loved the warm bread they provided for the meze. The spinach and portabella mushroom salad was excellent as well, in a nice, subtle pomegranate vinaigrette. The wine list was great - I decided to take the "when in Istanbul" approach and try the Turkish white wine recommended by the owner. It was excellent - surprisingly dry (most of my experience with such wines, I've found them too sweet). The Turkish beer (Efes Pilsner) was a bit standard, but fun to try. The Turkish coffee was absolutely wonderful, and the baklava was fine (didn't seem house-made/unique, but I pretty much love any ol' baklava). Would have loved to see more entrees on the menu - there were only three options this particular night. When I looked up their menu online, there were a number of options not available the other night - hopefully just because they were out of season/unavailable? All I know is, there is something called Octopus Casserole on their online menu. I want to come back and have that. Soon. I'd love to go five stars, but my one complaint (which I've seen echoed in other reviews here) is that the service was incredibly slow. The two coffees came out well after the baklava, and my friend's cafe latte arrived lukewarm at best. And oasis as it was, I hate having to track down a server for a check when I'm ready to return to the real world. On the other hand, the service is also quite friendly and personal... I struggled with this, but ultimately, I'm afraid I'm too much of a New Yorker to pretend that noticeably slow service doesn't count. Dreadful service and appalling covid response (overcrowding indoors, bartender not wearing mask). Bathroom is disgusting. Came in with a friend and they tried to get us to share a table with other people. I had high hopes for the food, but we didn't even get everything we ordered! Lovely little Turkish restaurant in nolita. I came on a Saturday night for dinner. This place was only half filled, so reservations are not required. Two of us ordered lamb entree, dip trio with yogurt, hummus and baba ganoush dips and Turkish beer. The dips come with warm soft bread. All dips are creamy and full of flavors. My favorite is hummus. This place is charming - it's a bit small, but has an airy romantic atmosphere. Reservations are not hard to get as there aren't too many people there. The prices are also really good for what you get. We started off with some hummus which came with freshly baked warm bread. I then got the salmon which was cooked to perfection. Otherwise, the space is cute, romantic and really inviting. 2) Food: Appetizers were the housemade pickles, babaganoush and the free yogurt dip which came with a basket of crispy focaccia style bread; crispy on the outside and a bit doughy but fluffy in the middle. the pickles were good, a small serving but not really worth the price. the babaganoush isn't as blended as other places, nor overly chunky; but i thought this was the best textured babaganoush i've had. To me, this was the star of dinner. My dinner party loved the yogurt dip with chunks of scallion. For my entree, i got the lamb kebab dish and the cubes of lamb were fine. not especially juicy or flavorful, but definitely not bad. well, there was one piece chunk of tendon that i had to spit out. The pilaf was tasty and had berries, chickpeas and seasonings although a touch softer than my personal preference. the grilled veggies were a tomato and a jalapeño pepper. 3) Overall: i would definitely come back for wine and appetizers to spend time talking with friends or even a date. When we first walked in we were seated immediately. We came around 5pm on a weekday so there was no wait. The restaurant had a warm atmosphere. This is a perfect date spot. The waiter was very kind as well. We ordered the Trio Dip, Grilled Octopus and Chicken Brochette. All three of these dishes were amazing. The bread came out warm and it was delicious by itself. Tasty food, but we had awful service that made the experience not worth it. After one hour of sitting for dinner -- midway through a bottle of wine and several entrees/shared plates for 3 people -- we were asked to pay and move from our table for another reservation (we also had a dinner reservation that night, mind you). It was kind of weird and abrupt, but fine, we were shown to a smaller table to finish our wine. After 30 minutes, the man who was the manager came to tell us that it was time to clear our table for yet another group of people. To be honest, we were probably 10 minutes from either ordering another round of drinks or leaving. But when we expressed mild disappointment at the rushed service, this manager told us that we'd been at the restaurant since 7:30pm, it was 9:10pm now, and it ought to be time for us to leave. I think it's pretty reasonable to be at dinner for 1 hr 45 minutes, especially at a bar/restaurant with a bottle menu. It's not like we had been sitting there, taking up space with empty glasses either. We had all tipped 20% on our bill. I am just appalled at the utter lack of respect from this manager that made us feel so unwelcome. Even a server apologized to us for this rude man on our way out. I would consider returning in the future if Little Rascal worked on how they treat their guests, but for now it's definitely not worth it. read more

It's on my favorite block in NOLITA where there's a lot happening and it's kind of tucked into the block. I had walked by it a bunch of times but hadn't noticed it till someone told me about it. The restaurant is pretty small, so definitely not good for big groups and the service is really nice! Now onto the food: YUM. For appetizers, we got the dip trio which had babaganoush, tzatziki, and hummus. The babaganoush and tzatziki were beyond delicious but my friends nor I loved the hummus. It was just okay, a bit dry, and could've had more flavor or lemon. They served the dips with delicious warm bread that we couldn't get enough of! For entrees, my two friends got the meat platter for two which they completely wiped clean and I had an okra stew dish which was delectable. The stew was so warming and the okra was cooked to a soft texture I had never had before. Really flavorful and highly recommend! Both dishes were served with more tzatziki which I couldn't get enough of, YUM! The only other part of the entrees I didn't like was that although they served them with two types of rice, the brown rice was dry and unflavorful. The cocktails were pretty good. My friends got the cucumber coolers which were so refreshing and delicious. I got a special margarita from the menu which was pretty good but had a bit too much of that artificial/sugary flavor. Just ate here last night and it was excellent. Lamb Brochettes was AMAZING! God so succulent and perfectly seasoned. Had the full branzino too which was delicious. Manti to start and the zucchini fritters were both delicious. Wine selection was nice. Had a rioja and my wife had the Pinot noir and both were very enjoyable. They definitely have the LES vibe going with music nice and loud so we could hear it even from our outdoor table. Love their outdoor setup. It was pouring rain and listening to the rain puns on the clear roof was really cool. The heaters kept us plenty comfortable but also breezy enough that we felt like we're were dining "safely". We were told "not at the moment, please come back at 9:30" no big deal, we walked around for a while and checked back in at 9:25pm. We were asked to wait at the bar while they got the table ready. It was 10pm and no table in sight. None of the 7 tables were even close to being done. We decided to walk out and to make matters worse, the manager accosted us outside asking why we left. Perfect little date spot nestled away in Nolita. Very cozy and romantic atmosphere. Only downside is they had the DJ music absolutely blasting at what felt like the highest volume. My girlfriend and I could hardly hear each other and we were sitting right next to each other in a corner booth. The small plates were delicious - with the lamb meatballs being the real winner. Little Rascal: the name only brings to mind all of the antics of Alfalfa and his gang from The Little Rascals, but I doubt that that's where this bar got its name. I would like to think that the movie played some small role in the design of the bar because the wooden walls are a sophisticated version of the treehouse and small trinkets (a Pinocchio toy, pinecones, a toy trolley) are randomly placed on the bar shelves...In any case, if you're looking for a low-key, high quality bar with healthy mezze and warm bread, go to Little Rascal. You could have a full-out meal here as they serve more substantial entrees like lamb chops and octopus casseroles, but the selection of mezze is pretty remarkable for a bar--you'll be able to sample vegetables and meats in all of their simply stewed, baked, boiled, and pickled glory. You'll also get a delightful bread basket which will fill you up quite nicely. The warm slices of bread are wrapped so cutely in a towel and it's not even a thin cotton tea towel, either! It's a fluffy hand towel so warm that it will remind you of the little bit of joy one feels from using a fresh-out-of-the-dryer towel. In fact, a similar towel comes with the utensils, so mouth wiping becomes much more enjoyable. The piyaz is what I'd recommend, though the white beans aren't nearly as spicy as the menu states. It's still a refreshing mix of textures and flavors that does well as a spread on the bread. The hummus is a little less interesting, but the housemade Turkish pickles are wonderful! Pickles are great bar food, and the assortment of cucumbers, carrots, and turnips in this mix is very satisfying and crunchy. You won't find anything out of the ordinary on tap here, but the basic beers (or the various wines on display) paired with the food and warm service are enough to thoroughly enjoy a night here.
