Amazing food! The menu included some foods I didn't necessarily expect but it was a nice surprise from what I thought would be a traditional, standard middle eastern menu. The lentil soup was so flavorful and had great texture. The beef dumplings were so tiny... I imagine it takes forever to wrap each dumpling by hand. Met a friend here on a Monday night around 7:30 for drinks and dinner. This place is definitely a local hangout as many of the patrons and the bartenders knew each other and discussed their personal lives. Love that kind of friendliness. Nothing really Turkish about the decor, but it has a dimly-lit, wood paneled welcoming environment one would expect from a good wine bar. Also, I loved their wine bottle display behind the bar. Simple, understated and beautiful. We ordered a couple glasses of wine and some turkish mezes. They have an excellent wine by the glass list which is great if you like to sample many different varietals like me. We ordered: 1) Cacik- delicious greek yogurt based dish- super refreshing on a hot summer night. 2) Artichoke- delicious, marinated baby artichokes. All the produce was very fresh. 3) Piyaz- white bean salad with red onions- crisp, light, satisfying and delicious. 4) Hummus- just average, I would skip it and dine on something a little more exotic. My best friend lives in the neighborhood and walked by everyday wanting to check this out so she decided to drag me there with her. When I arrived there was one empty table so I asked the waitress if we could sit there and she said "sure! let me clean it off for you." My friend walked in, I hugged her and turned around and other people were sitting at the table she was cleaning for us. The waitress walked over to another table and was cleaning it off. I asked her what happened to our table, and she had zero recollection of telling us we could sit there. We asked if we could sit at this table instead (it was a 6 person table) and she gave her manager a look to come over. He offered us seats at the bar but we made it clear that we wanted a table so they let us sit there. We sat down, perused the menu and asked our waitress what was in the veggie dish, and she responded "I'm not sure. We've only been open for 3 weeks." WAIT, what? Three weeks? Not one day. C'mon. We finally ordered with hopes that our food would be decent. Next thing we know, a different waitress came over with a check, put it on our table and said "are you guys ready for this?" We made it clear that it wasn't for our table since we hadn't even eaten yet. She stood behind the bar for ten minutes trying to figure out who the check should have gone to. So bottom line, they were all over the place. We didn't even give the food a chance. We were just immediately over it. Cute ambiance, music and all but service is a no go. read more

When you are planning a surprise birthday party, there's a lot of things you need to consider. It's especially risky when you pick a restaurant/cafe you've never been to. But Little Rascal seemed to fit the bill when I was searching for places, and I don't regret it a single bit. I came in early to drop off the cake, which they took care of wonderfully. Later I had friends of the birthday girl come in and get situated, while I led the birthday girl to the place. We had the appetizer sampler, which was a pretty great deal, since they bring out truly unlimited bread, and you get to sample everything. In terms of entree's, we had lamb chops, lamb kebabs, chicken kebabs, shrimp casserole, octopus casserole, and I believe the wild salmon. I believe everyone enjoyed their meal, but if you're spice averse avoid the casseroles. They're also the same except for the protein, in case you were wondering. Service was great, with the sole exception being when the waiter asked us to hurry up with the appetizers since the entree's were coming. I mean, granted we were taking a while, but nonetheless we're also paying loads of money. The guys in the kitchen also did a great job of slicing up our cake, and we were beyond full. So happy to have stumbled upon this cute little neighborhood spot. We stopped in for drinks at the bar and were taken care of by the sweetest bartender. Upon being told that they were out of the malbec I wanted, she offered me tastings of several of their other wines until I found one I liked, which is uncommon when you're just stopping in for a drink at the bar. We also tried the Ezme dip, which was good and spicy, and served with the perfect bread. It came out in a little basket, wrapped in a little towel - nice and crispy on the outside, and soft and warm on the inside. So good. While small, the space is beautiful, especially with the little Christmas decorations. I particularly liked the mini Santa hats on the beer taps. :) read more

Very charming place, but food is mediocre. Came here for brunch and was disappointed by the food. The menu made the dishes sound more impressive than it actually was. Mezemen - Turned out to be just scrambled eggs. Pretty bland. Worth $10? No. Toast - The only one that was more impressive than it sounded. More like a pressed pannini with melted cheese inside and comes with a side salad and roasted potatoes. Wish I got that instead of the scrambled eggs. Eggs & Sausage - Only 4 sunny side up eggs with tiny bits of sausage sprinkled around it. Comes with a side plate of chopped raw tomatoes and cucumbers. Very minimal and not worth it. Complimentary bread - Warm and soft. Really good, but wish it came earlier while we waited instead of with the meal. Despite how simple all these dishes were and how few people were there (only two tables, including ourselves), it took a quite while to finally eat. read more

Little Rascal (kudos to whoever named the joint!) is one of those places that metaphorically makes me want to give it a noogie and say "you're so cute" and "I'm proud of you, sport". Seriously though, Little Rascal is a solid SoHo/Nolita spot with an awesome ambiance, sweet service and fantastic food (see what I did there?). My friend and I shared a number of mezes - all vegetarian - which included the babaghanouge, Turkish pickles, hummus, lentil patties and piyaz. Everything was delicious but next time, I'd skip the piyaz as it didn't have that 'pizazz' I was looking for. Oh, and for my gluten-free friends, when I asked if there was something besides the bread/pita they provided, our server promptly suggested sliced cucumbers without giving the side-eye. My friend got meatballs, they were extremely dry. I got lamb chops, even tho the outside was cooked the inside was raw. They didn't even ask how you would want them cooked. I didnt make a comment cause they were doing such an effort to accomodate us. It could be a good spot for some drinks but i won't take people there for turkish food. One of my favorite places in New York!! This is the only place I've found that offers a full Turkish breakfast (SO much food - a truly incredible deal!) with all the ingredients fresh and delicious. The staff is also absolutely lovely, and willing to answer all my questions (and even tell me where they get some of their ingredients). I lived in Istanbul for a while, and after I returned to the US I spent months trying to satisfy my craving for authentic Turkish food - this is it! Really excellent, authentic Turkish food! I came here for dinner on Sunday night with a friend. It was quiet and romantic inside... my boyfriend said he used to take first dates here, haha. We ordered the hummus, baba ganoush. Both were delicious and served with hot, soft Turkish pide bread. We split the chicken brochettes (kebabs) also. The chicken was tender and came with a fragrant bulgur pilaf, grilled tomato, and a huge spicy green pepper. I liked it so much that I ordered exactly those three items again on Seamless the next evening! Here's the best part, apparently it was closing time and they wanted us out (after having spent $700 on our bill). Perhaps I didn't try the right dishes but I wasn't impressed by the food. I got the grilled octopus salad, babaghanoush and the artichoke. The artichoke was the worst and the babghanoush was probably the best. The sangria also seemed watered down. However the bread for the table was some of the best bread I've ever had. Perfect to grab some wine and small plates before a night out. The service was just enough and felt very personal. My only wish is that the meze/app menu had more variety, namely more "meaty" dishes. For example, the lamb meatballs were a main but would have been a perfect addition to the meze menu. We ordered the meat balls in any case, to share, and they were phenomenal! The food came out warm, but it took a long time for it to come out. Our table was only a party of four and we hadn't ordered much food, so we were confused as to why it was taking so long. Despite the wait, the food was actually quite tasty. I had a lamb dish that was tender and juicy -- dry meat dishes are never fun! BUT the portions and quality of food don't really match the price. We stopped by Little Rascal for a few drinks but ended up staying there for hours because of amazing service and authentic Turkish food on the menu. It has a cozy atmosphere with subtle jazz music in the background. We had a variety of appetizers including cacik, piyaz, kisir, ezme, eggplant salad, borek, and the crazy good manti. We've been told the mezes and main dishes have a touch of homemade quality and it definitely shows. Our wine recommendation of rose by the manager was excellent. Dinner last night was disappointing. The place is very cute. Intimate setting. Wine was excellent. However the appetizers were fair. Got shepherds salad (not great), babaghounish (good but small portion), bean dish which obviously needed time to meld and marinate flavors. I ordered a chicken dish which was not great It was only $14 but just not much thought went into it. Lentil soup was decent but nothing extraordinary. Just happened upon this place and it was empty but decided to go in and have a glass of wine as it looked cool. My wife got a glass of bubbly and after drinking half the owner came by and tipped it out and poured her a new glass from a new bottle as he said it looked flat. Super impressed. Decided to stay and eat. The food was delicious and they let us taste all sorts of wine. After a few more glasses we left extremely happy. Love this restaurant whether it be for a romantic date or an intimate meeting of friends. The vibe is on point with wooden tables, simplistic design, fresh flowers, mellow music, and dim lighting. The bartender is also your server...perhaps the restaurant owner too. Don't expect fast service, not that kind of place. I came here with friends who ordered the dips. The hot bread is delicious, though not the best I have tried. I ordered the lamb meatballs, so juicy and tender! They are full of flavor but don't taste strongly of lamb. I ate that with the bulgar pilaf and spicy green pepper. I wish they offered different sauces as the entree was a little dry. As for entree size, decent...as in they follow proper portion sizes. Okay, okay, I expected a bit more. Otherwise, the wine was fairly priced for an organic red in the City...$30/bottle. I got the baklava, which was really infused with honey. It was a delicious end to the meal. Overall, I would come back for the ambiance and some wine. I think the portion sizes should be larger (i.e. desserts, entrees, appetizers).
