Stopped in to see what this distillery was all about. Simon did my tasting. He was perfect with his explanations of each pour. He also took us on a tour of the distillery and gave me a pour straight from the barrel. The place was stacked tall with aging barrels. Very enjoyable! Arrived a little later so joined a couple who were about to start a tasting. You get 6 samples (3 of which are chosen by your guide) for the tasting plus a sample of the maple syrup at the end. Loved the Honey Gin (not on the menu yet), Espresso martini, and the cinnamon bourbon as my extra 3. Loved all, especially the Honey Gin (tasted like honeysuckle smells! If they would have had some for sale, I would have bought it.) Additionally appreciated the water bottles they had available on the table for us as we did the tasting. Loved the atmosphere, decor, merch options, and the really friendly and knowledgeable staff. After our tasting and purchase, they threw in coasters and stickers, which was a nice touch. If I lived in the area or they were able to ship to my state, I would be their spirits and bourbon regularly. I'd heard that the tours here were fun so when a bourbon-loving friend was in town we came here and had an amazing time. Our tour guide (Mike?) was informative and entertaining. The tastings were great too...I was able to try a couple of things that I was interested in and ended up buying some bottles. I also found out that they work with a producer of maple syrup to make wonderful syrup that is aged in bourbon barrels. Beautiful setup for the distillery. It's a great lil tour with nice folks. There is a lot to choose from in the gift shop area for spirit selection. I've had almost every whiskey they offer from the premises and others produced for select stores. The whiskey is probably one of the most overrated and overpriced I've ever had from a local distillery. And I've been to several throughout the state and surrounding states. It's not bad but it certainly is not worth the money compared to others, local and chain produced. The canned cocktails were good, refreshing over ice. Only had a couple of them don't remember the flavors. read more

What a great tour of a small Connecticut distillery. We were given a tour of the distilling equipment and an explanation of the distilling process. We then went to warehouse and shown the aging barrels and the various steps of the aging process. After the tour we walked back to the front store/sampling room and were given multiple sample shots of aged bourbon, vodka and flavored bourbons. Tour and tasting takes about 2 hours. There was no charge for the tour and tasting. Guaranteed after this you will walk out with a least 1 bottle purchase of your favorite. read more

Awesome little local distillery. Everything a person thinks of when they think of "shop small". We were looking around at things to do in Litchfield, and this distillery came up. I had not heard of it before, so I decided to check it out. We drove over from Waterbury, and were happy we did. They are supposedly known for their flavored vodkas, but did not have any in stock. I tried a few different bourbons that they had, as well as their gin and tequila, and was very impressed. I picked up a few bottles to bring home since it is not distributed in my area. It was nice because as we walked in, we were greeted by one of the owners. He was working, and had stories about all of the different products. It was a nice experience to be able to sit back and listen to why things were created the way they were, and what the vision was behind the different products. The bourbon bottle prices were that of a solid bottle, but not so much so that it was out of control. I think I paid around $50 for the bottle. They also sell small sample bottles, which allowed me to take new things home and not spend hundreds of dollars. They have some other bar related merch, as well as some seltzer style drinks. All in all, a great little unassuming distillery that has all the feels of New England and blue collar working. read more

We live about 20 mins away from here and have been trying to pick a time to go. Finally, on Valentine's Day we decided to make this our day date! First off, we had no idea the tasting & tour was free! What a huge bonus! We first arrived and were about 15 mins early, so they have you wait in their open concept room. All around the room you'll find comfy sofas & chairs, tables with chairs around them, tasting glasses wherever you're sitting & an array of magazines, local business advertisements, and merchandise. Once everyone arrived, we were taken into their back room where all the magic starts. Our tour guide was incredibly informative & broke down the seemingly difficult process for us so it was easy to understand. Each tank, hose, and bucket was described and explained in detail. Once we went to "The Barrel Room" we were able to taste one of their bourbons right out of the barrel! Our tour guide explained how to sip it EVEN IF it was a little rough at first. Everything she explained to us came to life on our second and third sips. She knows her stuff! She was able to answer any and all questions we had, and never skipped a beat. After The Barrel Room we went back to the open waiting area to try a few more of their liquors. We tried bourbons, vodka, gin, a mixed drink & some maple syrup! Everything tasted amazing (their gin was my fav!) and we had a great time. My husband wanted to try their Coffee Bourbon but it wasn't in rotation: all he had to do was ask and boom! there it was, a sample! We stopped in just to check it out and were surprised by how organized the tour was and what a beautiful and welcoming entry they had. We arrived about five minutes late for the first tour however the person who greeted us quickly escorted us out we are able to catch the tour as it just began. The tour was very interesting and I learned things I never knew about the process and about Bourbon itself. After the tour we went into the tasting room which was presented family style to the entire group and it was fun to share the different samples and chat with others. This was my second visit to Litchfield Distillery. I'm psyched to see how much they have grown yet still host a cozy tour and tasting. We had been in town from Long Island for the day and had a reservation for 4 but reservations are not always necessary. The tour is a must if you want to understand the process and the art of making bourbon and other spirits. I love telling people how much I learned about barrels! Well I ain't seen my baby since I don't know when I've been drinking bourbon, whiskey, scotch and gin (John Lee Hooker - One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer) OK Boozehounds, listen up cause you're gonna pop your corks at this one. You simply have to go here. We had a 5 star experience from the moment we set foot inside the premises for a tour and a tasting. When we walked into the large room, we had a few minutes to spend before our 12:00 tour and tasting (no cost and you can pre-book on line). This gave us the opportunity to stroll around and see the various products on display. There's a seating area with upholstered furniture and in the back left corner, we saw what looks like a dining room furnished with two big tables that can each seat 12. Our host was Jack, one of the partners at the Litchfield Distillery. He could not have been nicer, more welcoming, and less pretentious. When the rest of our 12:00 group arrived, he led us on an entertaining tour that included an overview of what exactly goes into making bourbon, gin and vodka, a tour of the production area and humongous still they bought from Germany, the aging barrel room, and the bottling line. Ever dream of tasting 150 proof hooch straight from a metal kettle? Well your dream will become a reality here, but be warned, this will melt your eyebrows off. Eventually, we all sat down at those dining room tables and enjoyed wee nips of the real goods. The product line at Litchfield Distillery include Batcher's Bourbon Whiskey, Batcher's Coffee Bourbon Whiskey, Batcher's Double Barreled Bourbon Whiskey, Batcher's Bourbon Whiskey Port Cask Infused, a Gin and a Vodka. They were stellar, I was very impressed by the Coffee Bourbon Whiskey in particular. I'm not a gin guy, but I sure enjoyed sipping their version Seasonal products not available today include both apple and blueberry vodkas. The next new product might be a Vanilla Bourbon. If you're a bourbon aficionado, you'll have a great time learning about the science of distillation and the role of the oak barrels, gawking at the shiny equipment, and sipping the small batches of hand numbered bottles that hold nectars that are lovingly crafted out here in the Litchfield Hills. A 750 ml bottle of vodka runs $29, the gin will set you back $35, and the bourbons run between $45 to $80. read more

While you can find their products in many stores throughout CT, it's definitely worth a trip to the distillery if you're in the area. What a unique and informative tour! David, one of the owners, was our guide for the hour+. His brother/co-owner, Jack, was around working on this Sunday afternoon too. And let's not forget Naomi who greeted our tour group with a friendly smile. I'm usually not one for tours like these because they can be dry and usually are all the same information. Once you've been to one brewery or winery tour you've been to them all. At Litchfield Distillery, though, I learned so much. My bf and I are whisky drinkers and found ourselves saying, "wow I didn't know that!" a lot during the tour. You can totally judge me but I took notes (nerd alert!) because David was full of detailed information. He did a great job explaining such a complicated and intricate process. Everything from the type of corn used to the barrel charring process was amazing to hear. Atmosphere: It is extremely clean everywhere you look, especially the distilling and barrel rooms. The building is located off a main road so it is easy to find. It's a red barn color with comforting vibes true to Litchfield. The tasting area is very inviting with couches and lots to poke around and look at. Drinks: After having heard the intricacies of making these spirits you really appreciate the tasting. Our group's tasting included the Straight Bourbon, 10 year Bourbon, Vanilla Bourbon, Cinnamon Bourbon, Coffee Bourbon, Vodka (unflavored), and Gin. My favorite was the 10 year which was double barreled. Coffee bourbon is as delicious as it sounds. It's made with cold brew, and if you've tried cold brew you know that smooth sweet and nuttiness it bring out - well that shines through in the bourbon so well. As for the other flavored bourbons, they are naturally infused so it doesn't taste like any of the fake syrupy mainstream stuff. I skipped the Gin because I had a rough night in college once and can't look at the stuff. But the Vodka was extremely smooth. I was very happy with the quality of products and developed operation for such a new business. There are a lot of details that impressed me, like when David prefaced the tasting with drinking responsibly. He also noted it was important for them to use bottles made in America. Everyone seemed very genuine and proud of their work. As they should be. Litchfield Distillery may be in its infancy, but I'm really looking forward to their future. A thoroughly educational tour! Jack took us on an in-depth, technical, chemistry based look at how his CT based spirits are created from grain to bottling. The bourbon is made from local corn and rye. The barley comes from NY. There are many visuals set up along the tor route so you can really see and understand the process. At one point, we were able to taste the bourbon before it went into the barrels too. It was a really weird feeling to have the alcohol evaporate in your mouth. It definitely is smoother as it filters through the oak barrels. Those on my tour asked a lot of questions so we really could understand the process. We even learned about how he chose the glass bottle that they use. We were able to try all the spirits made here in the tasting room. They all have a unique profile of flavors and we picked up a bottle of the vanilla bourbon because we liked that best. read more

What a hidden gem! Litchfield distillery produces a variety of liquors and prepaid cocktail mixes at a fair and reasonable price. They also provide free informational tours and tastings. I was fortunate to tour with one of owners and he was very down to earth and passionate about the work of the distillery. Looks tiny from the exterior, the open space tasting room is a delight. Tastings are scheduled hourly and reservations are suggested/requested. Batcher Michael toured our group and gave a full picture of the distillery and processes. The bourbons are mainly young, many even the favored vanilla bourbon, finish with a sharpness although a taste of the maple bourbon or their bourbon maple syrup seals the deal. They've created an incredibly refreshing drink of straight bourbon whiskey with maple syrup and lemon which over a chunk of ice, reminds me of a balmy summer day playing outside. This 'Litchfielder' is sold in cans, four packs. While impeccably neat and very interesting, the decor (see attached bottled eyeball display) includes raven statues randomly placed throughout the facility. We were told they are even moved around. My first thought with a raven is darkness: loss, ill will, death and this felt awkward. Yet alternative ancient symbolism reflects the raven's spirit of insight and prophecy, alight with the magic of the universe. I'd focus on the latter as you enjoy a calming experience at this CT distillery! read more

The bourbons were fine but just taking little tastes of four bourbons didnt do much for me. One thing I wish they had for the tasting was some things to mix the vodka with. Like club soda or something. I would rather have had the chance to just taste their vodka in a mixed drink than drink it straight up. read more
