I've been buying electronics from Listen Up for many years and never written a review and based on a recent experience I think it is time. I've always received great service at Listen Up from very knowledgeable sales people and am never pressured into decisions. Yes, you can drop some $$$ there but I think many people miss out on great service and advice even on components at the more reasonable end of the scale. I believe they will match prices on equipment sold elsewhere and you will definitely get better advice and service at Listen Up than at one of the big box stores or online. Plus you will get to see/hear the possibilities that exist if you wanted to spend a little more. Also, I recently purchased something and had issues with it after getting it setup. Yes, I was disapointed but I was also confident that Listen Up would take care of the issue and make it right. Which they did without any fuss and at no additional cost to me even though they had to get me some extra hardware to fix my problem. This just reminded me of why I shop there. So, check them out next time you want some home electronics whether it is speakers, home theater, or a television. read more

After a recent mishap with my Pro-Ject Audio turntable, I had to get the cartridge replaced. I've driven by Listen Up hundreds of times, and was aware that they specialized in home theater and hi fi, but had never been inside, and you can't tell much about the place from the outside. A friend recommended I go there to get my cartridge replaced, and I'm so glad I did. The place is incredible, and Scott G was ridiculously helpful. I've always been someone who appreciates Hi-Fi, and more generally, good quality 'stuff', and ListenUp was a great reminder that there are still retail stores for consumers who appreciate quality, staffed by people who genuinely know what they're talking about. Enthusiasm and passion can't be faked, and Scott clearly has both for what he does. Not only did he replace the cartridge and get me set up, he demo'd some ultra high end Hi-Fi for me, and talked me through some potential upgrades to my own system, but not in a salesman jargon high pressure way, but in a genuine way that actually explained my options, so when the time does come for me to upgrade, I'll be going back to ListenUp. I went into the store looking to buy a Sonos sounder or base. I asked the salesman for info regarding the 2 different units and all he told me was that they are the same, one is mountable and one is not. I had done my research and knew that there was more to it then that however I proceeded to ask for a demo of the 2. He walked me back to the room where they are set up, turned one on, sat there for all of 3 seconds, turned it off then turned the other one on. The volume was so low that I could barely hear either unit. After the "demo" he turned around and said "see what I mean, which one do you want?" I had walked in ready to buy one of the units but after that stellar salesmanship, I decided not to purchase anything from him. Maybe $700 was enough to get his attention but it's a lot of money for me to spend and was hoping for a little more from a store like this. read more

I've had Listen Up put in a stereo system in 2 houses. My current home has an extensive system, which includes the Sonos. I have many friends which have the Sonos system in their homes, which seems to work ok. Listen Up didn't install their systems. However, mine has never worked. I've had numerous visits from Listen Up to try to fix it. The technicians generally say they can't figure out what the installers did and no one can figure out how to make it work. I can use basic TVs and that's it. I have lots of nice B&W speakers that I can't use. It apparently is so complex that even Listen Up doesn't know how to use it. I'm very disappointed with their work. read more

I put a special order into Listen Up! Denver for a pair of Bowers and Wilkens P7 wireless headphones to have before I traveled abroad. I worked with Jeremy over phone and email. I was asking a lot because the headphones hadn't been released but I was to leave a few weeks later. Jeremy really pulled through, made my headset dreams come true. He was even willing to meet me on my way out of town, although it never came to that. I decided to shop here over Amazon because I knew I needed the help only customer service could provide and I was not disappointed. Worked with Larry to get a new cartridge for my VPI Classic turntable. Larry spent over an hour with me setting up the cartridge, walking through how to adjust the turntable, and what to listen for when it comes to fine tuning. We then went into the listening room and dove deeper into the nuances of adjustment. Not only does Larry know his stuff, but I found him to be a kind, patient teacher who has a genuine enthusiasm for sharing his considerable knowledge. If you are a woman, walking through the doors at ListenUp is like stepping into Saudi Arabia - the salesmen will not talk to you or make eye contact. I went in twice with my husband to research and buy Sonos for our new house. Both times the salesman shook hands with my husband but not me (I just waited a few seconds to introduce myself to accentuate the awkwardness). If I asked a question, the salesman would tell the answer to my husband without ever looking at me. Apparently these guys feel that a woman has no place inside an audio/electronics store. I bet they were shocked that I drove my own car there. In hindsight we should have ordered the Sonos system online instead of giving our money to this sexist place but oh well. I researched some B&W bookshelf speakers online and Best Buy was the closest store to my house that had them in stock so I swung by to give them a listen. No offense to the sales kid but he wasn't very knowledgeable but no surprise as I've got vinyl older than him so after trying out a few different models, I decided to check out Listen Up as they also carry B&W speakers. I was promptly greeting at the front counter and asked if I needed help or if I would like to just wander around. I chose to wander around and the first room I walked into, Yikes, the speakers cost like $18,000 so I scurried outta there, walking room to room then ended up in the back where they have sale and open box items. I had found the B&W bookshelf speakers along the way so I went back up front to get some help. Scott Weverstad came up to help me and this guy knows his stuff tho he should do, hes a Senior Sales Consultant whos been there since 1994 :o) I explained that I have a Technics 1200 turntable and the speakers on my midi system needed replacing, oh and that eventually I would like to upgrade to just a single two channel amp so with that in mind, which speakers would handle any upgrades? He said the bookshelfs would be fine but are meant to be on stands for the best sound staging. Armed with that knowledge, the whole "for not much more...." came into play and I asked to hear the floor standing models. This is where the slippery slope begins because you can distinctively hear the difference in the next model up and then the next! I ended up trying to decide between the 683 for $1650 and CM8 for $2400. There wasn't a huge sound difference like there was with the two models below but the CM8 are not as deep in size and the Piano Black finish is very classy. In the end tho they didn't have the CM8 in stock so I went with the 683 and also picked up a NAD 2 channel amplifier which was an open box model so the savings paid for my phono stage. They also have a sweet deal where you can exchange your speakers within the year and they will give you what you paid for them as long as you double your purchase. I will have to ask if the CM9's qualify or if I have to upgrade to the 10's? So if you are looking for anything Audio & Visual, go in and ask for Fred! Yes his real name is Scott but theres two Scotts that work there so hes adopted the name Fred. Recently purchased a home audio system and am very pleased with the result. Larry was awesome to work with - he didn't try to push the most expensive speaker system, he asked my price range and showed me all the options. He spent probably two hours showing me all the different speaker/amp combinations until I found the one I liked. The choices were overwhelming, but Larry really went out of his way to help - even moved speakers around to different rooms so they could be paired with different amps - and he really knows his stuff. I love the brands they carry here, and they've done a decent job of setting up listening environments. I've found a couple really good deals in the clearance area in back as well. I find myself not wanting to go in there. Half the sales people are pushy and the other half can't be bothered to acknowledge you. Even more unforgivable are the clueless ones. I was buying a turntable and a phono amp from them, and I said I wanted the model with USB. "Why?". Because I need something with a AtoD converter. "You don't need that, it's already analog" came the smug response. It was a true Ron Swanson moment. Just shut your ignorant mouth and give me the model I want. On a visit prior to that I overheard one sales-bro gloating about all the expensive cables he just convinced a customer to add on. Not very cool. read more

Got some great help in buying a VPI turntable. If you want someone knowledgable, ask for Larry. He knows his stuff and is a set up expert. It really is great to buy from a local shop so that you have someone like Larry to help you set things up perfectly. I think the store is great as far as selection goes. however, it is too much a sales enviroment where they page a salesman up front. I went in there a few times and the salesman thought I probably was some kid just looking and never cared to ask for my information or follow up , I had to remind him every time who I was when I went in there. Maybe he doesn't know any better but he was a nice man and very helpful and knowledgable about the products . The salesman, Jeremy, was knowledgeable and helpful about headphones, which was the particular product in which I was interested this time. When I had to return the first headphones because they were defective, he ascertained that they were, in fact, defective and helped me choose a different set. The store has a good selection of headphones and a nice setup where you can select your favorite tunes on Spotify and compare headphones side-by-side. Try that on the Internet! Prices can be expensive at times, but they sell very good products and do have sales regularly. read more

Just read through the previous reviews, and I wanted to add another positive one for both ListenUp and Scott Genaw. I've had great experiences with ListenUp in the past, so I went to them to buy a pair of Bowers and Wilkins P7 wireless headphones. I realized over time that P5's were the better fit for me, so I asked Scott if ListenUp would consider an exchange. Despite the fact that they don't typically carry P5's, and the fact that I was past the return period AND I had misplaced the original packaging (all issues that were clearly my fault), Scott said he'd look into it. About a week later Scott told me he'd reached out to the B&W rep, secured a special order of P5's, and was able to switch out the headphones for me. They're the best audio shop in Denver, and their customer service is second to none. read more
