This is, by far, the best Chinese food I have ever eaten. The General Tso's chicken and also the General Tso's tofu is the best we have ever eaten, anywhere in the world. The rice noodles are so good, I crave them. We eat here twice a week, and NEVER get tired of the food. I have been to Li's place only once, but I can confidently say that I will be returning in the future. The place itself is small and cozy with only a few tables, but in a nice and intimate way. The service was also great and the waitress was incredibly kind. I got a large chicken lo mein and overall it was great. First, the portions were massive -- a small is probably enough for most people. Second, the food itself was clean tasting and flavorful. Overall I was very happy with my meal. Another note is that the food came out very quickly which is an added bonus for me. Li's Place also seems to be very popular for take out. Would recommend this place to friends and family. read more

A small white house with a couple tables.....Li is the whole ballgame. We don't eat chinese unless we are in Boston. We've gotten take out several times as we past through Freeport on 295, it's an easy off and back on when you just have to have Asian food. My only real complaint is the price. You expect to pay "airport prices" in Freeport, but it definitely stings to pay $30+ for general tso's plus one app, no drink. The chicken was great, a little crispy, no fatty bits or excessive breading. Beef sticks had that smoky flavor and weren't too dry like a lot of places do. The place is very cute and small... seems to be built into part of their home, room for just 4 tables, but it was very quiet and I got great service. We ate there and the son was prompt and friendly. It is mainly a take out place but the quaint little dining area was nice. As noted by others, the dumplings and lo-mien are very good ( they will ask your spice preferences 1-10. Do not choose higher than 2 unless you want to burn your face off, 2 was very spicy). After visiting Freeport, ME for the first time, I tried a Chinese food cart off the street and had some of the best Chinese food I've ever had. Recently, I came back to the Freeport area looking for this food cart and soon discovered the owner and her family opened up a restaurant. And wow, it was amazing! The same classic food she used to make off the cart but now with even more options. Eating there felt like sitting in someone's home - quaint, friendly and very clean. The food is very affordable and the family is so welcoming and accommodating! What a great place to eat at. Get the homemade steamed dumplings. They are so perfectly prepared and come with an amazing dipping sauce with so much flavor. The spicy wonton soup was perfect, with lots of dumplings, fresh veggies, and just the right amount of heat! I love the new location on West street across from Arlberg Ski Shop. We just moved to town and have been slowly working our way through places we want to try. We've been missing some things we used to be able to get close to home (we lived in larger cities prior to here) and were excited to find that Li's is within walking distance of our place. Everything we had was great and so fresh! Veggies were cooked perfectly. Nice to go to a place and feel like everything was made for you (even if some things were prepped beforehand). Be warned about getting anything spicy -- their spice is real spice, and they do ask how spicy you want it first to make sure. There were quite a few take out orders while we were there, but the seating was open (it was a bit of an off hour). Looks like they converted the first floor of the house to create a large enough kitchen and dining area. Simple and no frills. Just how I like it -- a place where more attention is placed on the food itself. Can't wait to go back! read more

While visiting LL Bean the other day I had the urge for some Chinese food and came across this place on Yelp. It is a hidden gem that you can find down a side road off from Main Street in Freeport. It is located in what appears to be just an old house with a small sign to identify it. Once you go inside there is literally only six tables for a total of 12 seats. We timed it perfectly and had the place to ourselves. Rumor has it that whenever possible the owners try to use local vegetables and meats , even from thier own garden. Another reviewer said the chicken fingers were the best they ever had and not your traditional style Chinese fast food fingers. I'm actually not sure what he ate because the ones that arrived at our table were your average Chinese thick breaded fingers. They were good but not as great as I had expected. The rest of the meal was above average for Chinese. The Pork fried rice was not overly saturated in grease and soy. It was light and fluffy , flavorful, and loaded with crispy veggies. It looked and it tasted like it was made to order and not sitting in a rice cooker all day. The pork was not fatty or greasy and was diced up nice and small. It was excellent. Also excellent was the Veg Lo Mein, again, not greasy and it was loaded with crispy and not mushy stir fried fresh vegetables.We also had General Tso Chicken and this was very good. The Chicken was not overly breaded, in fact in was very crispy and diced small. The sauce was a nice balance of heat and sweet. The vegetables were again cooked to perfection. At the end of this meal I felt satisfied but not to full as sometimes happens with Chinese food. The food portions were a good size and we had enough food for leftovers the next day which were equally as enjoyable. For fresh cooked Chinese I would definitely suggest Li's Place. read more

We just happened upon Li's for a late lunch on a Wednesday and found the previous reviews were spot on! I ordered the Sichuan wonton soup and chicken lo mein. The soup came in a large bowl, loaded with 5-6 huge pork dumplings, and was a meal in itself. The lo mein was fresh with veggies and not greasy. We also had the chicken fingers - crispy and light - and the teriyaki beef on a stick - tender and flavorful. Heat scale is 1-10. I ordered lo mein as a 6 and Li recommended 5, which was just fine. The one woman who works there was very nice and gave us access to their wifi. The food is not something I'd be crazy about because it doesn't taste like your typical Chinese food. I ordered the pu pu platter for one, and I'd say the chicken fingers and probably the chicken wings are the only thing that tasted normal. I think the food is extremely overpriced for Chinese food, and for the portions it's really not worth it. This is an excellent little hole in the wall tucked away from the main drag in Freeport. Li's is exceptionally small. You enter upon the cash register where you order your food and then move to the adjacent room to sit down at one of the four tables nestled closely together. The setting is bare bones - white walls, no decorations, no music, simple wooden tables and chairs. All the better for focusing on the food. We had the lo mein, homemade tofu, and mapo tofu, which were all served family style. The lo mein was solid. It wasn't exceptionally tasty, but still pretty good. The homemade tofu and the mapo tofu were delicious. The homemade tofu had a great chewy texture and was slathered in a delicious brown sauce. The mapo tofu, on the other hand, was soft, delicate, and tender. It was nicely spiced and melted in my mouth. We also had some of their homemade chili sauce which was both flavorful and packed a spicy punch. Overall, I really enjoyed my meal here. This will definitely be one of our go to spots whenever we're going through Freeport. read more
