Pork fried rice as good as well with very little onions which can be overwhelming at some establishments. Pu Pu Platter was plentiful for my hungry man. He even had left overs! Unheard of with him. I was pleasantly surprised - Tasty Box exceeded my expectations on most fronts. I could tell the dumplings were handmade, you could taste chopped cabbage in the pork dumplings, and the chicken potstickers had a nice crispy skirt (iykyk). The shrimp and pork wonton soup (not pictured) had large pieces of shrimp in each wonton. The wonton broth was not overly salty and flavored with bonito and real seaweed. The Beijing beef was well-seasoned and the portion size was more than reasonable. The orange chicken (not pictured) was thinly battered (not caked in batter), although admittedly could have used a bit more orange flavor. The kung pao chicken had fresh pieces of zucchini, nice background heat from dried Szechuan chili peppers, and was not buried in a pile of peanuts. The eggplant tofu could have used a little more eggplant and a few of the dishes were on the salty side (what take out Chinese food isn't at least a bit salty?), but that's really the only criticism I can muster. The option to order a "small entree" size ranging from $6.50 to $8.50 is a nice idea, as we could try more dishes without committing to a full sized entree. I also enjoyed the insulated foil packaging some of the larger dishes came in - it kept the food very warm and less plastic is always a plus. All in all I think this place is gem and we will definitely be back to try more items on the menu. Previously we woud have to drive all the way to Li's Place in Freeport to get decent Chinese American takeout (without splurging on Empire with its hipster portions). I am so pleased to have this option in the neighborhood. My only concern is that some of the dishes / flavors may be a bit "too authentic" to appeal to the masses. For instance tomato egg stir fry is a real homecooked style Chinese dish and not found on a lot of Chinese American restaurant menus (I grew up on this dish and definitely want to try this next time). I hope to be proven wrong as I would love for this place to thrive and stay in business for many years. We could use more diverse dining options in Cape. For what it's worth I am Chinese so consider myself fairly discerning when it comes to Chinese restaurants...I haven't written a Yelp review in years, but felt compelled to write one tonight to support this local business!
