I'm a sucker for good, piping hot Mongolian BBQ. Even more so when the weather starts to get cold. Which takes me on a trip to the suburbs of Carmichael, CA where I had the opportunity to eat "Li's Mongolian BBQ". The only reason why I have not yet eaten here is simply because its only been opened for a short time (since late-2015). Jump forward to the evening of 10/31/17 (yes that's Halloween) where my lady and our friend gave this place a shot. Since I already have a favorite Mongolian BBQ restaurant in Sacramento which is "Silver Garden" on Madison Ave., this place really had to wow me. The restaurant is conveniently located on busy Fair Oaks Blvd. and can be a little tricky to find considering how quickly traffic moves on this street. The parking lot is fairly small with only limited spaces in the front. However, they do have an overflow lot around the rear of the building. When we came, it was around 7:00pm and very busy. Most of the tables were vacated while several people were in line picking out the food. When you enter, they ask how many and if you want rice, soup, and a drink. Since we were there for dinner, the cost is $9.99 for all-you-can-eat Mongolian BBQ. Which means you pick your noodles, protein (beef, chicken, lamb, imitation crab, shrimp, and tofu), and a plethora of produce (broccoli, spinach, baby corn, mushrooms, etc). They also offer numerous seasonings and sauces to customize your bowl. Once your (uncooked) bowl is stuffed to the max, they spread out your food on a very hot grilling platter while everything cooks nicely and is ready in about one minute. Flavor wise, everything definitely hit the spot, particularly the thicker noodles. The key is to really use the right amount of oils and sauces to get the right balance of flavor. I did get filled up very quickly as this was a heavy-duty carb dinner. I wasn't really that impressed with the complimentary hot and sour soup as it was a bit too sour for my taste buds. As good as Li's was, I still love going to Silver Garden for my Mongolian BBQ fix. Reason being is that they not only offer complimentary soup but also fried rice, two egg rolls, and a cream cheese wonton for more or less the same price. Again its all about preference. I've noticed that Li's has more of a younger clientele that comes here while Silver Garden has more families and a more mature crowd. They do have very generous hours being open Monday through Saturday from 11am-9pm and Sunday from 12-9pm. Also keep a lookout for weekday lunch specials and reduced prices for children. Overall, the service, quality of food, and price are all definitely above average. Not quite the best but very good for what you get. Make sure you are very hungry when you come here! You get rice and soup. And then you go through the buffet to fill your bowl ~ and the chefs cook it for you super quickly! Yummy noodles and choice of many different meats, tofu, all the vegetables, and then you top your bowl with sauces. The sign says to take one scoop of each ~ best advice!!!! After my favorite mongolian place in Vacaville closed, I've been on the hunt for a new favorite! I stumbled across Li's Mongolian after attending a performance at American River College, and I think I'm hooked! If you've never been to a Mongolian Grill before, the basic concept is that you take a bowl, load it up with meat, veggies, and noodles, and then pick your own sauces and the grillmasters will grill it for you! Li's has a great assortment of veggies and meats, and everything is always super fresh when I go! They even have lamb at dinner/weekends, which basically seals the deal for me. They have two types of noodles - thin noodles kind of like spagheti, and thick, delicious, super chewy udon noodles. No seriously, these noodles are magical. Their noodles are by far the best I've ever had at any mongolian place. The sides are pretty good too! For the dinner ayce price of 11.50, you get unlimited bowls of mongolian, but also rice and egg flower or sweet n sour soup! I'm def a fan of the egg flower soups! My only teeny tiny minor complaint is that the bowls are pretty small, so if you're doing to-go, it isn't really worth it! Definitely do eat-in if you can! read more

Wanted to try a different Mongolian in this area and this place got good reviews. It is in the older area so you can tell the building is old despite the counter remodel. Staff is very friendly and was attentive to our needs. We came here for dinner. What they have that I have never seen at other places is shrimp and imitation crab. There is a small salad bar in the beginning. I like that they put food on a flat plate vs. a bowl at the end because it cools your food faster so you can eat it soon after. Oddly they have spaghetti noodles as an option so the only asian noodle, is the thicker Udon type. Only downside is the sauce selection. There was not just plain soy sauce and they seemed watered down so put a lot on. Oh and they did 3 at a time on the grill. While it is efficient, you tend to get a mix of everyone else's food. My friend got some of my shrimp and onions on hers. Upside is the price is unbeatable. $9.99 for all you can eat dinner. Most places are $12 and up. I would come again but not my favorite. The food was passable at best as in 'alright'; I'd strongly advise opting for take-out rather than dining in. The service was deplorable, particularly the waitress's disgraceful attitude toward a group of amiable Deaf group of people. Despite their courteous demeanor and earnest efforts to communicate, she showed them nothing but unkindness. One gentleman, epitomizing politeness, sought to explain his need for a take-out box, having been unable to finish his meal due to his medication situation and intended to consume it later at home. However, the waitress, with sheer insensitivity and a blatant disregard for basic decency, flatly refused his simple request, seized his plate, and callously discarded his food in the trash. Such heartless behavior is reprehensible! Instead she was complaining saying she can't give him a box because video cameras is a live and she can get in trouble offer box take food home that the customer already PAID for! This establishment owes a sincere apology to the Deaf customers it has wronged. Furthermore, it must immediately cease this abhorrent practice of effectively stealing from patrons by forcing them to discard their paid-for meals. This nonsense needs to stop! I refuse to patronize your business any longer until you rectify this ludicrous policy that only serves to make your restaurant look foolish and mean-spirited! You guys look stupi! read more

Poor service. Came here with group of friends. Did not realized that they did not allow any left over take out. Did not see the note until it's too late when your food is being cooked. The information should be up at front of cashier. My friend had his plate full took away and won't give my friend his food that he paid for in box! Even server laughed and thought it was funny due to fact that we are deaf and the communication were terrible. This is WRONG! and they had audacious to do this to group of deaf people. Was apprehensive at first as I had not been before - Let me tell you - apprehension be buggered! This was amazing- Fresh, fresh oh and yes very fresh veggies - that one is able to select from. This place has great food, however, customer service was horrible. We have been dining here for about 6 years and have not had an issue with customer service until this woman in the picture started working there. This is the third time I see her. Every time she is there customer service is horrible. She appears to be angry all the time. Never greets you nor smiles, always in a rush, slams things (ex: when she brought the waters, rice and soup she slammed it on the table.) She instigates kids age, she questioned a mom about her daughter's age and it wasn't enough for her she then proceeded to ask the little girl for her date of birth. She then told me she wasn't going to give my kids soup because they "are not going to eat it kids just waste food" my boys love soup how dare she say they don't like soup as if she knows them plus they weren't charged as kids they were charged as adults, and she said she is only going to give us half of the rice portion because we will not eat it all, this woman was a total joke and so unprofessional. I never skip an opportunity to get Mongolian bbq whenever I'm in Sacramento. It seems to be one of the few cities that still offer this culinary gem. I tried Li's for lunch yesterday. The space is cleaner and nicer than most of the hole in the wall Mongolian bbq joints you'll find in the city. Lunch is a great deal at $7.99 for one bowl and $8.99 for AYCE. You also get your choice of egg drop or hot and sour soup. The soups aren't great, so my recommendation is just get the AYCE option and fill up on the main deal. They have a sad salad bar option, just skip past it and go straight to the Mongolian bowl options. The meat and vegetables look fresh and the meat was all still frozen. There's nothing worse than filling your bowl with thawed out sad looking chicken that has been sitting out for who knows how many hours. The line moves quick and they had two chefs working at the giant grill during lunch time. They have a vast selection of sauces but I used my standard sauce combo as well as their recommended combo and the stir fry came out a bit too salty both times. The best flavor comes from the Mongolian bbq sauce but this one was just a bit too salty, so you either go lighter on it and lose the flavor or go heavier and get too salty. Overall not a bad place to get your Mongolian bbq fix, but I'll certainly try other places around to compare next time I'm in town. I'm not sure how Yelp determines the distinction, but I assure you that Veggie eaters definitely go nuts for this place. And here's why: The veggies are FRESH. No limp broccoli or mushy mushrooms here. They serve tofu as a protein source for the non-meat eaters and have peanuts and sesame seeds as toppings. Soups are vegetarian (but both contain egg). Salad Bar! It's small but mighty, and appreciated. Sauces are all vegan with the exception of the oyster sauce. Eggless noodles are available too. I really wish they would label things like this as it's really helpful to those who have allergies, dietary needs, or are just too shy to ask (obviously not me haha). My family and I went on an early evening so the business was slow. Which was great because usually when I drive by the places is pretty packed. Service was great and the cooks did a great job cooking our food. Only suggestion would be to use the juice at the bottom of the bowl on the food being cooked! My cooked dumped the juice and it just adds flavor:/ I did find it odd they provide a table bowl of white rice rather than individual rice bowls but I'm glad I went with family ha! This place frequent quite often moved to California in 2014 they did not have the establishments back east. Great concept you basically stand on a line fill a bowl with your choice of fresh meats and vegetables add sauces then hand them to a cook on giant hot plate he stirs it around cooks it in front of you then hands it to you bring it to your table and enjoy it. Like it because you choose what you are eating, Offer you your choice of soup and rice. Have been to a few of these restaurants this one is the best it is always packed. It also has a salad bar. The viscosity of said soup is perfect not some gelatinous canned goop and seasoned with white pepper-yum! They are super clean & organized throughout the bar and restaurant. Ingredients truly fresh and I hasn't ran out yet. This accommodates the pickiest waters as well as meat lovers & vegans! The small tummy to the gluten food addict, everyone's very happh. I came in today for lunch with family. It. Was. So. Good!!!!! Li's is located inside an old vintage restaurant location in a slightly run down strip of shops, so it's like walking into a 70's retro time warp. We were greeted by a very cheery server, and seated promptly. We ordered drinks, and headed to the food bar. The meat (white and dark meat chicken, beef, pork, shrimp, and surimi) was all fresh and lovely. The veggies were fresh and lovely too. I piled my bowl as high as I could with all the offerings, and handed my food to the chef. It was cooked swiftly, and handed back to me perfectly prepared. They have peanuts, and sriracha on the side for helping yourself. When we got back to our table, our bowls of soup and rice were waiting for us. Seriously, the service here is so great! My food was so good, I actually went for a second helping. Our drinks never went below half full, and the prices were so reasonable, that even though they are far from where I live, I'll be back again and often. read more

I feel like I'm always on the hunt for awesome Mongolian BBQ. Since I'm hella fat I love going to places where I can eat non stop. Today we gave this place a try after reading the Yelp reviews and realizing it may be the most legit Mongolian bbq in the area. Walked in and were immediately seated. We were asked what kind of soup we wanted. Egg flour or hot and sour. We were offered drinks as well. White rice was served. Since we were starving and wanted to get home to watch the giants game, we went up and got food right after being seated. There was a decent variety of meats and for the first time I saw crab as an option. Noodles and lots of fresh veggies to choose from as well. The only place I've seen seafood at a Mongolian BBQ type of place is fire and ice in south Lake Tahoe. Although I stuck with mostly veggies, my husband did enjoy the beef. We did pour a lot of sauce on our bowls before cooking. The sesame seeds and peanuts were and nice to put on after it was cooked. By the time we left the place got pretty busy. I love this place. The food is very fresh you have a salad bar two types of noodles 4 to 6 different types of meat. THey add shrimp and crab meat at dinner and have several different kinds of vegetables that you could choose from... plus they have many different kind of sauces that you can add. I like to add extra sauce just so they use less water...and the flavor is richer... and after they cook it...they have sesame seeds...peanuts or hot sauce that you can add on top of it.
