I was in search of alterations for some time and finally landed on Lin's Alterations. It was close to my house and primary shopping in Avon and had wonderful reviews. Upon visiting and meeting the owners, Fred and Renee, I knew it would be a great fit for my alteration needs. Not only am I petite and had a variety of pants, coats, etc. that needed hemmed or modified to be 'ready to wear', but I began a new position and needed formal business attire altered to be office-ready. Renee does a consult for every piece in the mirror with clients, verifies the type of shoes to be worn, asks clarifying questions, and then has the items done within a week or so (perhaps sooner, but so far I haven't needed anything in a rush.) In terms of value, I also believe the pricing to be very affordable and quality. PRO-TIP: be sure to bring either the exact shoes you'll be wearing with pants you want hemmed or similar styles so the length will be accurate. Note: They're closed Sundays & Mondays & open until 4PM so plan accordingly. read more

I don't mind supporting businesses, but over $70 for two pants and a blazer. The blazer pocket was coming undone and they said they would fix it, but so they unseamed it, but didn't sew it back so I used iron on tape. Also, the sleeves were tapered in an odd way so when I wear it, the under satin cloth comes out! I was not happy but what led me to write this review was on a pair of the pants, the hemming completely came undone today. This was about two months since the service was completed so I'm very disappointed. That's 2/3 items done not to standard. I will be finding a different alteration place next time. read more

Attention Marines!! do not go to this woman. I dropped off my Marine Corps uniforms to have my rank updated. when I explained to her where it goes and showed her the order, she argued and talked to me like I was an idiot. She then proceeded to show me the army regulations. Once I got home, we measured and they were all crooked and the ranks on the shoulder were uneven by a quarter of an inch. Visible from a distance. She charged me 90 dollars to sew on 6 things (a khaki shirt and an alpha coat with service stripes). I am very unsatisfied with the service she provided and will be going to anyone but her!!!! read more

My daughter just left Lin's in tears with her wedding dress after being told that she just needed to lose some weight, instead of receiving help with alterations. She purchased her dress two weeks ago and has not changed weight. It only needed very small changes and a bustle added. She was rude and insensitive and made the comment about my daughter's weight in front of other customers. I will never recommend this establishment to anyone. read more

I can't even give 1 star to this business. Very, very, very poor quality work. Gave a pair of pants and a shirt for fitting, and both were spoilt. Had to just trash them. Didn't take measurements of the waste to alter the pants, did it twice snd both times wrong size. Would not go there again or recommend to anyone. Crappy service. read more

Yong English, who owns and does the alterations is amazing and so kind. We've been coming here for a few years now and my husband continues to say she is the best person to work with. Even with her leaving Monday on her first vacation in 40 years, she told us to come back the next day, Saturday, to pick up our pieces. She has such a strong work ethic and cares about her customers. I had two prom dresses that needed to be altered. They were able to complete out an all out hem, fix the straps to fit perfectly, and taper in the waist for a better fit. They were able to complete all this on time and at a great price. I will hands down drive the 30 minutes to have all of my items altered by Lin's Alterations. read more

My first experience with Lin's was just recently. I fulfilled a lifetime goal of purchasing a couple of high end custom suits but needed a tailor/seamstress in the canton/Woodstock area to do the final hem and jacket sleeves. Lin's took the time to recognize that this was very special for me and educated me n a couple of different styles I could go with for the pants cuffs and when I put on my new Armani suit and showed up to work the day after picking them up everything was just as I imagined it would be. I even got a compliment from my boss's tailor who was at the office giving him a fitting and he offered to do my first bespoke suit when I was ready. I highly recommend Lin's Alterations. read more

I do not recommend going here for alterations. I was told that they did a fantastic job and decided I would make the over an hour drive from my house. I brought in 2 dresses to have alterations done. I was asked when I would need them by and gave them the date, to which I was told yes it could be done. This was a month prior to my event. 2 weeks before the pick up date I went in to pick up a different dress that I had dropped off to be altered. I was told it was not done and that I could come back later. Keep in mind they were the ones that gave me the pick date. I was patient and decided to give a little grace as we all make mistakes and forget things. 2 days later the shop called me to tell me it was ready. The neckline had practically disappeared as it was altered from the shoulders instead of the waistline. Was not happy with it, but not much I could do at that point. I asked if they would be able to have my other 2 dresses done in the next 2 weeks at the original date I was given and I told her if she couldn't I understood and could come get my dresses. She did say that they were short staffed but that it could be done. Forward 2 weeks I go in to pick up the 2 dresses and instead of bringing them right up front and saying they had not even started them she asked me why I didn't call the day prior. I did, but no one answered the phone. I also do not think 24 hrs would have made a difference here. At that point I asked for my dresses to take with me, because like I said live over an hour away and my sisters wedding was the following Saturday. I kid you not, it took me asking for my dresses multiple times and having to visibly get upset before they handed them to me. The customer service was terrible and instead of an apology, I was asked how I was going to take them if they weren't even done. Anyways, I left with my dresses in hand and luckily was able to find someone that could have them done in 4 days. I washed my daughters dress with the almost no where to be seen neckline and it came out of the hand wash cycle with the hem undone. Disappointed with the work but even more disappointed that they could not have been honest with me and said, " We are short staffed and can not get this done in time for you." That I would have understood and kindly thanked them for their time. read more

I have two issues, and neither are about the work they do. I've used them for a few years and kept coming back because the lady is friendly and they do good work, but I decided I cannot return because of what happened over the past week. 1) I took a suit in last week to have altered and then dry cleaned. I also had a few pairs of pants altered. I asked if they charge extra for the dry cleaning over what Sun Cleaners charges them. The answer was "no". Lin's charges $14.99 for dry cleaning. A week later they were ready. Upon giving me the dry cleaned suit I see that the suit jacket and a different pair of pants were cleaned. I bring this to their attention and they start to write up an additional bill of another $14.99 for dry cleaning the pants I originally wanted cleaned with the suit. I explained that they had cleaned the wrong pants and so they need to fix it, and not charge me for the cleaning of the correct pants. The head lady there mumbled something about not making any money. I said "then you should have cleaned the right pants​ and not a pair I did not want to be cleaned​". Yes, this really happened. I returned today to pick up the pants and again received a bunch of complaints that they were not making any money. I had to explain again that they made a mistake. She then actually said "I'm not going to do this again", to which I replied,​ "then clean the correct pants in the first place". 2) The dry cleaning receipt on the pants was for $6.29. So, they lied when saying they do not make money on the cleaning and it is just a pass-through. Before she made a point of saying that they offer this just as a courtesy to their customers. Wrong. There are other businesses out there that do this work. I'll use them from now on. read more

I unfortunately visited her shop to get some simple patch work done. She seemed knowledgeable and assured me that she could do the work. I was asked by her when I wanted to pick up my garment but being in no hurry I allowed her to give me the date when the work would be completed. I returned on the date I was given and to my disappointment not only wasn't the job completed but she hadn't even began the work. Her unapologetic attitude about her dismal performance spoke volumes. She even had the audacity to ask me to return in a few hours so she could do the job. I found this unacceptable, unprofessional and immediately asked for my garment back. I took my business to Fabric Care which completed the job and saved me 40% on the service charges. Lin wasted my time but didn't get the opportunity to waste my hard earned money. read more

I purchased a beautiful Bettie Page gown online for 70% off with the disclaimer that there were no exchanges or returns, so of course, it was too small. Lin's recommended adding an adjustable corset back, which took about a week. It cost $60, which was twice what I paid for the dress, but I love the unique look and can't wait to wear it out. Very disorganized and expensive considering the alterations made were incorrect and sloppy. She laughed, told me to put it on, and started pinning. She calmed nerves and assured me she would get it done in time. I picked it up the MORNING of my wedding:) and it was perfect. Also been going to Lin for over 5 years. A few years ago when I went down two clothing sizes, I took literally all of my clothes to her to resize down. They've all were altered perfectly! You couldn't even tell that the clothing was ever a bigger size - absolutely flawless! Even though I now live in a different state, I still take everything I need altered to her when I'm visiting. Very dishonest!!! Save yourself the stress! Many many tears have been cried because of Lin and her lies about pricing and deadlines. She said my sister's wedding dress would be completed on sept 28. We gave it to her on July 25. She had two whole months. We showed up two months later and she said she hadn't even started bc she's been too busy. Then she said "don't worry it only takes me one day to do". Umm okay? Then she said she wouldnt have it completed until oct 20!!!! She called On the 20th saying she needed 5 more days. She finally finished it 7 days before the wedding and had the audacity to try and charge my sister more money "BC it was hard work". Are you kidding me?! You knew what you signed up for because I brought the dress to her in May to ask if she could alter this wedding dress and how much. The price and the date it would be completed on all tripled in price and timing by the end . Finally the other lady tried to guilt trip my sister by making her feel bad BC Lin has a condition where beading hurts her eyes. What?!?! You said yes. Very sad. Do not fall for her lies. She comes across sweet, but she knows what she's doing- Scheisty My sister had to take off work a week before the wedding to come get her dress. Poor business practices. Had my dress for seven weeks. When I came back to get it, it hadn't even been started on. Said she would have it done the next day. Went back and it had to be taken in more- finally done with one week to spare. My bustle also didn't work great and kept falling out all night. I normally have no problems getting simple hems done, but this last time, I took three pairs of pants and was satisfied with only 2. They all fit in the waist after I washed them (but line-dried them) and just before I brought them to Lin's. After bringing the finished pants home, I noticed that one pair looked smaller than the others. I thought maybe it was my imagination, so I tried them on. They'd shrunk maybe 2 sizes since the time I'd brought them in. I took all 3 pairs back and asked for money to replace the pair that they ruined, but they argued that they did nothing but hem them. I don't know what they did to them. All I know is that I took in 3 pairs of pants that fit, and I left with only 2 pairs that fit. I will not patronize this establishment again. read more

Terrible service. My daughter's prom dress was supposed to be done Wednesday May, 1. Went to pick it up and it wasn't ready. Told me to come back the next day. They called the next day and said it still wasn't ready. Told me it would done the next day (Friday) they called at 3:00pm and said it wasn't ready, but that they opened at 9:00 on Saturday, the day of prom, and it would be ready. They called me at 9:20 on Saturday morning and asked what time her prom started! REALLY!! My daughter was in tears because this was her senior prom. The good Lord was looking after us. I got my daughter in the car and drove to Penney's in Plainfield and found a dress. Please do not expect anything from this woman. She is all about the money. Maybe that is why she only accepts cash (no taxes). Please don't waste you time or money at Ms. Lin's. read more

They said it would take a week and it took about a month & a half, I asked them to make the bust bigger and they made it SMALLER. completely ruined my prom dress & prom is less than 2 weeks away.
