I'm sure they have been through a lot at this location, which I definitely take into consideration, but I don't think that means that low quality customer treatment is now acceptable (across multiple visits). I waited for them to come take a cheap item I needed out of the locked cages (that every item is in now), and when they did, instead of handing me the 5 dollar item, they insisted that they would take it up to the front where it would be waiting for me. After waiting in a long line, my item was not at the front.. So I just checked out without it. As I was leaving, an employee came up to me with the item I needed and acted like I was being an inconvenience. I went back and purchased the item only to find out that I missed out on a discount that I would have gotten if I'd have purchased it with my other items. I couldn't care less about the discount - ha, but it's just the principle of the situation and how the employees I dealt with could obviously care less. And this has been a re-occurring vibe at this store. Not to mention that the store's inventory has not been very great either.. ALTHOUGH, it is true that you never-ever know what people might be dealing with in their lives... --which is why I gave a 2 star rating instead of 1 star.

This is one of my favorite buildings in South Pasadena. Originally opened in 1915 as a pharmacy,…read morethe current ownership took it over in the 1940s and turned it into a soda fountain + pharmacy and made it world famous when it became one of the attractions on Route 66. Tons of people have visited it over the generations, and it's one of the landmark history spots of Los Angeles, and is a must-see stop if you are a Route 66 history fan. Parking in the area can be a bit difficult; however, it's not hard to find metered street parking in front or the paid parking lot across the street. Inside is really cool and preserved as if it is in the 1950s. In the back, they have a fully functional and working pharmacy, and in the front is a merchandise area, a little bodega, and a full service soda bar and milkshake station. The attendant behind the counter was extremely polite, and I tried a Cherry Soda, which I thought was great, and I wanted to get a banana milkshake; however, they were out, so I chose Funfetti Milkshake and enjoyed it very much. It was a great sweet treat on a warm day, and I would highly suggest to anyone to stop in for the history alone. It's also well known in many movies and TV shows, so if you are a filming location fan, it's also a must visit. I would highly recommend and will be back again in the future.

Before I stopped I checked to make sure they were open and it said they open at 9 am (it was 10:51) so I went it and instantly someone asked me if I was getting a prescription, I said no and they immediately told me "in that case we're closed, come back at 11:30" I said but you open at..... and they interrupted with "we open at 11:30 come back then". If an establishment makes you jump through hoops just so you can buy from them, then it's not worth going. It's sad to think I may never be able to shop here again just because they make it so hard. What a shame that I might have to buy what I wanted online, and that's how brick and mortar shops die.
