For 9 years, I have been buying cake from Linda's bakery. Out of those times, I have never ONCE met this woman (that's because I have never officially picked up a cake from her) until 4/4/19. I had always wanted to try her durian cake because i figured if her guava, pineapple, and mocha cakes are amazing, the durian cake should be just as awesome! Boy... was this cake AMAZEBALLS! I messaged her on Saturday and asked for a pick up on Wednesday (last minute), and she made it happen. Though... on Wednesday, I guess there was a miscommunication and the cake wasn't done, rescheduled for Thursday instead (for her cakes, no big deal). I came on Thursday to pick it up and officially got to meat this wonderful lady. She was super kind, genuine, and literally cried when I told her that I've been buying cakes from her for 9 years and I made an effort to buy this durian cake just to eat it (literally no special occasion), not to mention I drove all the way from Reno just for her cake (I was in town for errands). Now the cake itself, I was given the option for either 1 or 2 pounds of durian in the cake; i opted it for 2 pounds. I was told the cake was just freshly baked the night prior (not by her unfortunately), to give it a few hours before diving in (I picked it up around 11am). I didn't cut into the cake until 6pm and one of the durian layers was still slightly frozen-to-defrosted (didn't bother me at all). Even though Linda did not personally bake this cake herself, her recipe and obviously technique did not change one bit from 9 years ago. The cake was spongy and moist, cream layers were not overly sweet, and the outside frosting was not thick and tasted like diabetes. The durian cake (like all her cakes) was perfectly balanced, light, creamy, and very delicious; super potent durian smell and taste, totally worth the drive and money! PS. A mom n pop located in DTSJ! I go back years with this place. My parents had their wedding cake from this place and from there I've had so many birthday cakes here. We've had so many cakes here for almost if not every occasion - Mother's Day, Father's Day, Labor Day... 20+ years of having this place, it is still soo good. The cakes are so light and soft, the cream and filling is sweet but not too sweet. It's so easy to eat more than a slice. My favorite fillings I've had here are mocha and strawberry. I personally never tasted her cake and they don't offer cake tasting but I saw Linda offers tropical Asian cake flavors which I love cause American cakes are way too sweet for me. We met 2 weeks before my wedding, I show her an image I wanted and the color scheme of my wedding. Simple elegance is how I wanted the cake and as you see, that's what she delivered. Cake was filled with fresh strawberries and custard. Best combo anyone can ask for. The 1 star is for customer service. Their storefront is not open. You can only communicate by texting the number posted on the door, but the person is not very responsive. They are also trying to cut down on smaller custom cake orders, and focus only on wedding cakes so they will do everything in their power to NOT take an individual cake order. When I finally did get a response, I was told it would be $150 for a quarter sheet cake with fondant for decoration. I said I didn't want fondant, and the response was it would still be $150 because they would have to use buttercream instead of whipped cream. I'm pretty sure they were just being difficult because they didn't want me to continue the order because they didn't respond when I texted back to clarify what can and cannot be done to get a new estimate. Well, they were successful because I sure as heck am not paying $150 for a quarter sheet cake. Too bad I won't be ordering from them ever again because I actually liked their cakes. We decided to book our cake with Linda right away. Her prices are reasonable and we were able to fully customize our cake. I also ordered my mother's birthday cake from her, and it came out better than what we had hoped for! (light purple cake with fresh orchids, 4 flavors with 2 tiers). We instantly hit it off & she knew exactly what I wanted!! That can be hard sometimes but since she has been in the business for so long it was such a great experience to work with her- she asked me the color of my dress & baam! The chocolate vanilla cake we ordered had chucks of dark chocolate pieces everywhere inside the cake, that was meant for melting and decorating use, was not made to be filling for cakes. The decorations was pretty standard and simply. Cakes are dry and not sweet. Btw this is a Asian bakery, hence they dont understand how to make American flavors. The bakery told my husband this is the smallest cake they got, which was over 12". A "small" cake can easily feed 15 people. A lot of bad things doesnt make it good. read more

My fiancee and I had 4 months to plan and pull off our wedding on a limited budget, and Linda's bakery was a key factor in making that day so beautiful and memorable. Their work is unbelievable for the price you pay, for their cakes, their flower arrangements, and their service: CAKE: The cake was just what we wanted--beautiful and delicious. No butter frosting or tacky decorations, but real whipped cream and fresh fillings, and the elegant design we chose from their (homemade) catalogs. We paid a little extra to have it delivered and arranged on the table with flowers and fabrics--so convenient (and gorgeous! See photo) FLOWERS: The flowers were lovely; Mary was able to get them in colors that coordinated with our theme of white, gold, and peachy/coral. For the peach, which varies dramatically among flowers, she matched them against a fabric swatch I gave her. I also emailed her pictures of our ceremony setup, and dropped off vases I wanted to incorporate into the decorations--she tailored everything to our needs. Since we had a traditional Persian ceremony, this was not easy! But Mary picked up on what we needed very quickly, and gave us great suggestions on top of all that. SERVICE: Awesome. Linda may be a little scattered (everything you read by other reviewers is true) but she, and especially her daughter Mary, really saved us when we needed it. Originally we went to them just for cake, which we booked 2 months in advance. I had (naively!) planned to do most of the flower arrangements myself with the help of family and friends, and have a few items professionally arranged. But I totally underestimated the amount of work needed for the former, and the price of the latter. Unfortunately I didn't discover this until 1 month before my wedding, when all the florists were either booked or super pricey. Feeling extremely low and tired I went to Linda's for the final payment. I knew they were unavailable for flowers on the day of my wedding, but I decided on a whim to ask if they knew somebody else who could do the job. "You don't have anyone for flowers??" Mary asked me in surprise "Noooo, " I said, wanting to cry (hey, it's easy to get emotional during the wedding process!) "Hmmm, let me see something..." at which point Mary goes into the back, and I hear an exchange of quick Vietnamese with her mom...and (long story short) they agree to do all the flowers I need (HUGE relief). It worked out because the other wedding they had that day was near mine, but it was very short notice, and I know they were super busy. All in all, I am extremely satisfied with their work, and recommend them highly. Their storefront is nothing special, but Linda is an excellent baker, and Mary has a great eye for design. The first time I had a slice of her chocolate cake with chocolate and raspberry filling and knew immediately I wanted her to make my daughter's birthday cake. We ordered a cake from Linda's bakery for our wedding in May. We wanted to make sure we had a good cake since a large portion of our guests was of the Asian "I can't handle cloyingly sweet American cakes" variety. Not only did we enjoy the cake at both tastings we went to, the guests raved about the cake after the wedding. Anne was wonderful in accommodating all of our requests and specifications. We went with a three-tier cake, bottom tier was mango/guava, middle was mocha with rum, top was pandan coconut. Every flavor was delicious, especially the coconut. We ordered a cake for 150 people, which was more than enough to feed the 180+ guests who eventually attended our wedding. We even were able to save the top layer for ourselves, score! Helpful information for all other brides-to-be shopping around for cakes: Anne's cakes are like cakes you would find at an Asian bakery (think 85 or Paris Baguette) - light and fluffy crumb, fruit fillings, whipped cream for frosting. A huge plus if you have hordes of relatives coming from Asia who can't stand decadent chocolate cake and buttercream. We were able to rent the cake stand and cake knife and server from the bakery. Upon promptly returning the items after our honeymoon, we got our full deposit back. We eventually had our florist decorate the cake with flowers (Anne provided the ribbon), but Anne will decorate with flowers for no additional cost should you want that option. Very reasonable and affordable pricing, but cash only! Labor and delivery included in the cost. read more
