Some of the highlights are the smoked/grilled wings with blueberry jalapeño barbecue sauce. MMM! Yum! Burnt ends sandwich is good. Brisket, pulled pork all expertly done. Thank Goodness they're back! Last night, we finally had an opportunity to grab a bite to eat;w e chose Limp because their food has only gotten better each year. Their portions are amazing; you truly get more bang for your buck. The best way I can describe their BBQ is smoked and subtle. Lots of BBQ joints' sauces are too rich and seemingly overpower the food, and consequently your gut with loads of salt and sugar....Not Limp! Here, you can fuel up with some excellent chow, and finish up by comfortably taking down another adult beverage. We tried Limp Lizard Lizard out for dinner after a day in Finger Lakes. We arrived right around 7 on a Thursday, and while they had a decent crowd, we were able to get seated immediately. Limp Lizard has a really cool interior - wide variety of seating, plenty of decorations, a decent bar and lots of television if you're trying to watch some sporting event. The food was underwhelming. I really enjoyed the ribs, but the pulled pork and BBQ chicken were dry, and the brisket was fattier than I'd like. My draft beer was cool, not cold. Passable if you're in dire need of some meat, but there are better options around. read more

The name Limp Lizard isn't the most appetizing of names but it's definitely a memorable one that sets this place apart. I don't know the history behind the name but it does remind me of Dinosaur BBQ. They have 3 locations. I have only been to this one. There is plenty of parking. The atmosphere is country/western/rustic. They have live music and a good beer selection that includes various local beers. I tried pulled pork sandwiches, a side of beans, macaroni and cheese and cornbread. I liked the macaroni and cheese the best. Though it didn't come in a traditional elbow macaroni form, I thought the flavor was great and creamy. It was also made with a white cheese (cheddar?). The beans were too sweet for me. I like the beans better at Dino's but I like the mac'n'cheese here better than Dino's. They cater! It's generally cheaper than Dinosaur BBQ's. Their menu also has other fun items like quesadillas, tacos, burritos, wraps, salads and steaks. I'd be interested in trying their ribs next time! I was really surprised to see that not only had Limp Lizard not been reviewed yet but it wasn't even in Yelp yet! Living on the east side of Syracuse, we don't venture over to Western Lights very often but decided to make the trip on a very cold December night. It must be tough to be a BBQ joint in a town that is know for the Dinosaur but the Limp Lizard seems to have figured it out. It's very small so we had to wait a few minutes for a table but the food was worth it. I had the smoked chicken which I thought was better than what you get at Dino, my husband's pulled pork was good but not something I would make a special trip to get. We left just the band was setting up for the evening entertainment - given the amount of equipment they were bringing in compared to the small size of the joint, it looked like we timed things just right to be able to hear each other over the table! Is it as good or better than the Dinosaur? Maybe. Do you have to wait lots and kowtow to the staff? No. I found Limp Lizard to be more "authentic" than it's famous competitor. The food and the presentation isn't as polished, but the biker at the bar probably built his Harley and knows how to fix it. We Love Limp Lizard-however we live closer to the one on Onondaga Blvd so naturally we go there instead of the Liverpool location. 3 strikes and you're out! I am not one to complain however the past 3 times we have been there the food and service was awful. This was the last straw. It took over and hour to get our food and the waitress was neither friendly or attentive. Sat with empty drinks for 20 minutes. My wife orders the veggie burger and I usually get the chicken sandwich. All three times we have been there our food has come with something missing or completely wrong. This last time ( and also the last time we will ever visit) my wife orders the veggie burger and it came BURNT! A VEGGIE BURGER-burnt! We were there close to 2 hours waiting for our food and for them to fix the order. I do NOT recommend this location. read more

I am a BBQ fan so I have been to basically all of the BBQ joints in Syracuse and the suburbs and Limp Lizard ranks up there. It's cool to order any of the many flavor of wings to go or sit down and enjoy a nice platter with their delicious jalapeño cornbread. The menu is pretty awesome I have tried just about everything and I haven't been disappointed. My favorite I must say is the wings they are hands down awesome and I have tried every flavor! I normally sit down at the bar for a drink and eat my dinner there or if with friends or family we get a table. The location is good but it's a small restaurant so it may be busy on a Friday or Saturday night. During the week is great to experience the food, it's pretty good. read more

Went to get dinner with their new outside seating due to COVID-19. The man serving food, disinfecting tables, and processing credit cards was wearing a surgical mask around his neck and made no attempt to put it over his nose and mouth when waiting tables or interacting with customers. The food is good, but not worth the hospital bills if I get infected. read more

If you're in Syracuse and want to try some BBQ other than Dino, this place is worth a look. No matter how busy it is, I've never had a problem getting seated right away. The atmosphere is good, and almost has a Dino feel to it. No point in reinventing the wheel, I guess. The beer selection is pretty good, and service is always good. The portions here are pretty large, and I like the meats. The brisket especially. I wish they would give different sauces at the table, but the one they give is good. Twenty minutes to be seated, but drinks were reasonable and we were asked about refills before being seated. It's a bar with tables, band was energetic if not a bit too loud. This meal was a catered take out; Chicken, ribs, pulled pork, cornbread, coleslaw and baked beans. First - a 25 person order deserved more than a 1/2 quart of BBQ sauce. Chicken was good, pork was OK, the ribs were under cooked - They needed another 2 hours at 250. The ribs were smokey but not flavorful & they need to fall off the bone or else it's just flat out gross. I had heard rumors of a BBQ joint in Syracuse that rivals Dinosaur, and of course, I was immediately interested. I went out there on a snowy Saturday afternoon and we were immediately seated. That's a nice change of pace when compared to the Dinosaur where it's normally at least a 30 minute wait. I tried the ribs and chicken combo. The ribs were very good. I still think Dinosaur's ribs are better, but the Lizard's ribs were nothing to sneeze at. They were tender and were coming clean off the bone. The chicken was another story. To be fair, chicken is tough to cook. It can dry out easily, which was the case here. It would have been nice to have some sauce, but there was none on the table. My thought is if it's not on the table, then I'm not supposed to use it. I ended up taking most of the chicken home and using some Dino sauce to spice it up. My girlfriend tried the pulled pork sandwich, which she really liked. I would probably go back at some point, but I think Dino still holds the crown in Syracuse. But try it for yourself. My favorite local hangout! I've been going to the Western Lights location since they opened. Great smoked wings, love the chili (no beans)! The smoked meatloaf (Thursday special) is awesome. Brisket is good, ribs a little inconsistent. It's just a comfortable place. We've held a private party in their enclosed porch and it was great! The LL doesn't get all the hype the Dino gets and for me that's a positive. The LL is biker friendly, with dedicated motorcycle parking. Great to sit outside with a beer and a cigar! read more

Service was great. Did not have to wait for a table on a Saturday night, even with them having live music. But the food has put me off of this place... again. I ordered meatloaf and mashed potatoes. It tasted very good, but was completely cold. It was as if the kitchen moved the food from the refrigerator to the plate. Quiet sports bar with above average bbq, pleasant service and modest pricing. The pulled pork was 5 star quality and the ribs, sides and house bbq sauce 3.5-4 stars. They slow cook and smoke with hickory: the pulled pork without anything extra was the real deal, tender, toothsome and delicious. While bland, all the sides we tried (slaw, black bean salad, fries) were fresh and home made (maybe not the fries). We'll return to check out the brisket, turkey and chicken and report back. read more

i've been eating BBQ all over upstate NY and northeast PA over the last few years. i've had some pretty good bbq and some pretty bad bbq, and i'd have to say that compared to them this place is pretty solid, BUT comparing these guys to Dinosaur BBQ is where these guys fall short. Dino's food is pretty much perfect in my opinion, and the wait can be a hassle but i feel it's worth it. my friend and i arrived at Limp Lizard around 6:30 or 7, i really can't remember, but we were both surprised how busy it was. it was in a part of Cuse we had never been to and even though it was busy we were still seated right away. it looks like they're trying for the same vibe as dino, having a lot of random stuff hanging up on the walls, which is cool i guess but it'd be cooler if they tried to do their own thing. the service was good though. as for the food, i started off with a dozen smoked wings. i ordered the blazin sauce and it really wasn't hot at all and didn't seem to differ from the sauce they had on the table. that's another thing, they have a few different sauces but they only put one out on the table so you don't get to sample em. the sauce was good though, it's on the sweeter side but i felt it had a little too much garlic powder in it when ate on it's own, but when i put it on the meat i didn't seem to notice. the wings were good, they were meaty and smoky but a little on the tough side, they were definitely deep fried after they were smoked which can tighten em up a bit. i also got the sampler platter with pulled pork, brisket, and ribs. it was a LOT of food and i wish i didn't get the wings before. the mac n cheese was ok but nothing special, pretty generic flavor. i did like the potato salad though. i got a really small piece of cornbread with it that tasted ok but it seemed a little dry. in addition to the 2 sides they gave me a tiny cup of slaw and i only took one bite, it was pretty bland. the ribs were ok, they were meaty and smokey but again a little tough. the bone pulled right out of the meat but the meat wasn't very tender. the brisket and pulled pork didn't taste too smokey to me at the time, but once i took home some leftovers and picked at em the smoke flavor seemed to come through a little more. the texture on those wasn't too impressive either, the pulled pork was mushy and a little too shredded and the brisket was also a little on the tough side. the pulled pork came out as a sandwich, which i've never seen before for a combo plate. the bread on it was good. my friend went with the burnt ends sandwich and he really liked it. he gave me one of the ends and while the flavor was good it was too overdone in my opinion, burnt ends aren't actually supposed to be burnt! all in all, they have ok food that would satisfy a bbq craving if you're not willing to wait to be seated at dino, but as of now, i'd rather wait there for better food, or just do takeout and eat it in my car. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. Two different times we attempted to have a decent dinner and we failed both times. Our first time the cook burned out medium burgers three times in a row. They came out blackened, dry and well done. The second time out we waited for 75 minutes for dinner after placing our order. Our orders consisted of pulled pork and a brisket sandwich. After the finally arrived by our inattentive waitress we found the pork and beef tough and dried out. Adding tons of the lack luster BBQ sauce couldn't help it. We initially asked her to take our kids orders first, while we figured out what we wanted, but once she took our kids orders, she didn't return to us until she brought their food... meaning we ORDERED and they were already eating.
