This is my go to place to bring guests! The food and drinks are good, and the service is excellent! I feel like the seats inside are a little tight, so we always like to sit outside for lunch. Arroz con Mariscos: This is a must get! Probably the best paella around the area. Jalea: Tasty and flavorful, but it wasn't super crispy. Truffle Mac and Cheese: The perfect amount of truffle & it was nice and creamy. Antichuchos de pollo: We actually did not enjoy this! The chicken was dry and flavorless. We've been here plenty of times and also enjoy other dishes like the lomo saltado and chicken. The cocktails here are also pretty good! Ambiance: we sat by the window on a nice day and it was great for people watching. 4 stars Service: we started at 11, and left a little before 1 bc we were told they needed our table for a reservation despite 4-5 other open tables. Additionally, in those 2 hours, the wait staff came to our table no less than a dozen times. Sometimes a min or two immediately after one another. It was more disruptive than helpful. I honestly wouldn't have a problem vacating the table if they approached us with a some level of remorse. I came to limon with 2 friends on a Friday evening. They have indoor and outdoor seating. We parked at the Caltrain parking lot, I've always been able to find spots there since a lot of the parking within downtown Burlingame is usually full. We got there around 8:15 PM without a reservation and the restaurant was very crowded but we were seated immediately. It is VERY loud inside when it's crowded as there are many tables close together. It was a bit hard to hear my friends talking and we had to talk loud to hear eachother. Service was great and we got our drinks and food quickly. We tried the passionfruit sour and passionfruit margarita. They were good and I want to try the lychee sour next time. For food we got the chicken empanadas, ribeye steak medium rare and the mixto amarillo ceviche. The steak was cooked perfectly and the ceviche was so good! Definitely their appetizers outshine their entrees. The service here is very good. While I think the food is pretty decent, I think they up charge for too many items that should be included. For the ceviche, they charge $3 for the taro chips, which the server just automatically brought out without asking us. The yellow sauce is also $2 extra for any additional request, which they also don't tell you costs extra. We were also celebrating a birthday, which they brought out a dessert but it wasn't even complimentary. Overall, an okay place for Peruvian food but there's certainly better out there. read more

We came for lunch today and were seated immediately. It was a light yet enjoyable meal. We started with the yucas, which were perfectly crunchy and very tasty. They came with a side of ají amarillo sauce that was absolutely delicious. For our main courses, we shared the arroz con mariscos (seafood rice), which had great flavor and a nice hint of spice. However, the rice was a bit too moist--almost like a risotto. Still, it was enjoyable. The lengua was tender and flavorful, though we felt the portion was on the smaller side. We also shared the half roasted chicken, which was incredible! It was perfectly seasoned, with crispy golden skin and tender, juicy meat. When Limón opened in San Francisco twenty years ago, you just couldn't get in. Instantly a smash hit, it was always that way (maybe still is?) So when I saw there were tables available at Limón's Burlingame restaurant at a shoulder time between brunch and dinner, I had to jump! Our server was so professional, knowledgeable about every dish. We ordered the Pork Belly Chaufa ($26) with subtly yet deeply seasoned rice. It had oyster sauce and sesame oil and other flavors and herbs whose notes you tasted; it was perfectly balanced. The Flat Iron Steak ($32) was sensational, exactly what I wanted and exactly the temperature I wanted it - rare. Hiccups with service that my main was taking minutes too long after my son was served (a quick 'whassup?" hand gesture had the server running back to the grill.) Then another staff member cleared my son's plate while I was only halfway through my lunch, a no-no. Sensing I was irritated, the manager came out and apologized, more than the issue needed though I appreciated. He insisted on comping our dessert (mango panna cotta, perfection) even though I demurred. It was appreciated and generous. I've always heard that Limon is amazing, but I was not that impressed. Food arrived quickly. We got the lomo saltado, polli papas, and the half chicken. I expected the lomo saltado meat to be tender and easy to chew, but it was tough even though it was red on the inside. Didn't really taste like anything either, and the fries were basically drenched in a saucy soup. The half chicken tasted dry and tasteless too. The best was the polli papas, which was fried chicken thighs. I think the best bang for your buck was the half chicken platter set, which comes with fries and salad. Food was good and we were having a nice time, but the ending really threw things off. I paid the check without adding a tip on the card because I was planning to tip in cash. When the server came back with the receipt, he told me -- in front of my date -- "just so you know, you didn't tip," and the way he said it felt uncomfortable and unnecessary. It honestly made the situation awkward, and because of that moment, we ended up not leaving the tip at all. Tipping shouldn't be assumed or brought up like that. A simple, respectful approach would've made a big difference. We came back the next night. That should tell you everything. We were in the Bay Area for work, four guys from Southern California and Tampa, and somehow stumbled into Limón Burlingame on the first night. By the end of that meal, we were already planning to come back the next night. And we did. The food is exceptional. Peruvian cuisine done with real care, bold and layered flavors that don't feel like they're trying too hard. One of my colleagues was so envious of my entrée on night one that he ordered the exact same dish on night two. We got the same appetizer both nights without even discussing it. That's not a coincidence. That's a restaurant doing something right. The service matched the food. Attentive, warm, and genuinely hospitable without being overbearing. That balance is harder to find than people realize. We talked about going a third night. We didn't (schedules won), but the conversation happened. That's the real review. the food was delicious! my boyfriend and I ordered the camarones crocantes (fried jumbo shrimp), chanchito a la diabla (crispy pork belly bites), and the lomo saltado (stir-fried beef tenderloin with fries and rice). we absolutely loved the sauces that came with each of the dishes-hands down the best part! the spicy and tangy sauce on the pork belly was so delicious and the sauce with the lomo saltado had a perfect savory and smokey flavor. the beef tenderloin and pork belly bites were cooked well- they were a little bit tough at times and could've been a bit more tender but still very yummy. we came in on a saturday night without reservations, and were able to get seated immediately even though there were plenty of people. the service was good, one of the waiters came to explain the menu to us and the food came out quickly. it is pretty loud and cramped inside, but I didn't mind too much- just feels very lively. one thing is that they charged us $14 just for water... a waiter did come and ask us first if we wanted water so of course we said yes, but didn't think it would be that much. next time I know to double check! overall, the food was so delicious- the sauces and flavors were absolutely amazing. Takes me back to High School... One of my closest friends in high school is half Peruvian. The first time I ever tried Peruvian chicken was at his house. We were in between where to go for dinner and I'm so so glad we settled on this one! The place is really lively right at the end of the Burlingame ave. It has really cute outside seating and inside as well. They have lively music playing and combined with the people talking and laughing, it was a little loud but not so bad it made us want to leave. We ordered a couple different ceviches to try and an order of chicken empanadas. The ceviches were really good, although I was expecting the shrimp to be raw, they were fully cooked and a little rubbery but not too bad. The taro chips add a nice depth of flavor to the ceviche that's different than the normal tortilla chips. The empanadas were just ok. The chicken inside was a little dry. We ordered the braised short ribs and the arroz con Mariscos to share. The ribs were so tender and flavorful. The beans were top tier and the white rice was the perfect combination to cut the richness of the ribs. Omg soo good! The arroz con Mariscos was very similar to a paella. It was very rich and packed full of seafood. The flavors were really good. It was a little salty but not too bad. The servers were really nice and friendly. Very attentive. Our water was never empty and our plates didn't sit on the table for long after being done. They brought out a sparkler and a slice of tres leches cake for the birthday girl and sang. Limon is tough to "just try" because the line can be long even with reservations - but maybe we just got lucky that there wasn't a line when we went (we were prepared to go elsewhere if there was). I've been wanting lomo saltado for a while so this was the perfect opportunity. Inside was completely full, so we opted for outside "with patio heaters" but honestly, the heaters didn't really do the trick. Ordering was normal - we went for the tacu-tacu, the lomo saltado, and the short rib (AND LATER, the tres leches). The tacu-tacu is like a ball of fried rice - almost like, a burrito that's completely rice. Crispy on the outside, delicious within. It's a little pricy at $10 "for rice", but no regrets in be able to try it. The lomo saltado looked different that I remember - but it was still delicious. Limon's version is my second favorite (my favorite being in SF which is a bit of a drive) - but I was happy with the taste, the portion, and dish overall. If it's your first time at Limon or having lomo saltado, this would be the classic dish. The short rib, I remember from before - so it's cooked well and it's tender, but it's missing the "oomph" that makes a dish stand out. At the time of ordering, I do try to vary the dishes "to try more" - but I'd honestly opt for double lomo saltado's next time. (Also, as a note, the rotisserie chicken is a "trap" for me as it's nothing special and you're really better off trying something else unless you have like dietary needs. I remember this from last time and avoided ordering it - and ironically overheard another table saying "the chicken isn't that good". It could have changed honestly, but just a note so you get your moment's worth.) LASTLY, so I got my lomo saltado craving satisfied - and I'm not normally a dessert person, but I realllly wanted to try the tres leches because of what I read in other reviews. Honestly it's also my first tres leches - so we got it, and man was it great. It's like a cake that comes in a milky puddle, has tiramisu vibes, and is delicious :) I can see why others sometimes "just want to order the tres leches" to-go, and honestly I may doe the same one day. The only kinda ding for us that night was the ending service, when it got much colder (and the heaters are wimpy), and it was really hard to find someone to get the bill. We noticed other groups also "being politely frustrated" trying to pay, so I just got up and hunted someone down. Not my favorite thing to do, but it was a good 10-15min in the cold and we had plans afterwards. Very disappointed that the rotisserie chicken now only comes with 1 small side of their aji sauce. Unfortunately, when you need another side it is $2/small cup. The chicken has never been that great and has always been dry, but when you add the sauce it makes the chicken delicious. Did I say each small cup of sauce is $2!!! You almost need 1 of those small cups per piece of chicken. Also, tried the paella and it was a 3/5 since it was a little too moist. It's not called the paella so maybe I'm comparing it a traditional paella and it shouldn't. But did I tell you each extra sauce is $2!!!! It's just crazy. I had a reservation for work last week, and our group unexpectedly grew from 5 to 11 at the last minute. The staff was so accommodating and managed to seat us comfortably in the back, which was perfect since we were a bit loud. Food came out quickly, portions were decent, and everything tasted good. Service was excellent,attentive, friendly, and efficient. It was during one of those hot days and the air conditioning could not keep up. It was also our boss's birthday, and they surprised us with a sparkling candle to celebrate, which made the evening even more special.
