Fabulous little restaurant tucked aaway in Massachusetts in Lawrence Kansas. We primarily stayed with the pizza menu but the limestone salad was very fresh with a light lemon dressing. I also enjoyed a bowl of the Moroccan soup which was rich with lentils, sweet potato and cumin. We ordered three pizzas - Margherita, NOLA and a mushroom to go. All were well sauced with a nice amount of fresh cheese, tasty ingredients and a fabulous crust cooked perfectly in a wood burning oven. We were too full to try dessert but it looked fabulous. Next time I hope to try the fig and arugula- it looked yummy. Also our waitress was very friendly and helpful. Great place we will probably visit at least one more time before leaving Lawrence. read more

The staff were nice and cool and got us seated quick. Our sever was very sweet but apparently her shifted ended and was gone before our food was even served. We didn't get our appetizers until 45 mins after we got sat and waited over an hour for our pizzas to come to our table, even though we were the only ones in the restaurant. The LA pizza was delicious but the Margarita pizza came out so burnt and was barely enjoyable. We also ordered a kid's pepperoni pizza that came out not fully cooked, so that was barely enjoyable as well. We are from out of town and really had high expectations for this place and we were very disappointed that it didn't meet those expectations. read more

At first the menu scared me a little; I'm actually a very open minded person but they have items I've never seen before. They have "snack" items that are interesting. My boyfriend and I ordered one mushroom pizza and one pepperoni. WOW... YUM. Their pepperoni isn't your typical round slices you can get at any store or at most pizza places. This is the REAL DEAL pepperoni and it has a mild kick to it. If you're a mushroom lover, I HIGHLY recommend the mushroom pizza. It's probably the BEST I've had. Overall, it's a nice spot. I will say, though our server was very nice, after she brought our food, she never came back at all to see if we were enjoying our food or if we needed anything. I've been to limestone twice. The first time was a great, near 5 star experience. Tonight it was more like a 2.5 star experience. We sat down and ordered beers. The waiter wasn't very friendly and didn't check on us very much. I ordered the falafel and a side of fries. The falafel was one of the worst I've ever had. It was super salty and tasted only of cumin and lemon. It was swimming in tzatziki sauce. The sauce wasn't great either. The fries were horribly soggy and greasy. They were so limp and flaccid. And they were an additional $4, which is ridiculous! The pepperoni pizza was good. It was really lacking cheese though. There were about 4 small dollops of cheese, so that was disappointing. Currently our favorite place to go out for dinner in LFK. If you're in the mood for pizza, you've got lots of options, some classics (margherita, pepperoni) and some really unique/creative ones too (the spud! the NOLA!). All the pizzas are baked in a huge wood-fired oven for that delicious smoky flavor and perfect crust. Love it. If you're not in the mood for pizza, there's a whole menu full of salads, sandwiches, and other good stuff. We love the goat cheese croquette apps - perfection! Finally, we've tried several desserts here and they have all been awesome. Our favorites are the brownie and the caramel budino (which you can get TO GO, which is genius!) Due to the small space, it can be difficult to get a seat on busy nights and it's usually pretty loud. That's my only real complaint. We like this place a whole lot. read more

Never got a chance to try pizza. Lady came out and ran us off. She said we had to move from (unmarked) spot she claimed was curbside delivery. I can understand if there was an actual sign marking spot? But why start off rude and abrupt without even asking first? What happened to common courtesy and politeness in the Midwest? The atmosphere and service when I have gone has been great and food comes (not quick) but in a good matter of time!! The pizzas are fun and (dare I say Boujee) #hipsterpizzas They have some fun and different combinations and overall I love going here for some oven pizza. This type of pizza isnt your super thick crust but more of the thickness of pita bread. This restaurant doesnt just serve your basic cheese pizza, they do it better (even though just cheese is still tasty too hahaha) Cant wait to come back and try out some more combos and DESSERT. only thing I wish on my BLT pizza was that the bacon wasnt as fatty, I know theres not much you can do when theres fat on parts of bacon but it got a bit chewy in places that cant say I liked haha wish it could have been a bit more crisp on the pizza, would make it easier to bite into as well. read more

My family and I were just in town for a few days and stopped by Limestone since it was near our hotel. We were glad we popped in. It was Thursday night so did not have to wait for a table. We ordered pizzas for all and they were outstanding. The pies are true Italian style and cooked in a wood fire oven. Crust, sauce, and the pepperoni had fantastic flavor. What made the visit the best was the service. Our server was attentive, had great suggestions and we wanted for nothing. Drinks were refilled, food came out quickly as well. Everything is fresh, homegrown and feels like it came from your back yard. I honestly have a hard time deciding what to get when I come. Highlights - try the vanilla soda. It's homemade! Appetizers are all great - can't go wrong. Favorites are calamari, arancini and french fries. I've tried the pepperoni, spud, farmer, Margherita and sausage pizzas. This is my favorite pizza in Lawrence, and therefore the world. I cannot go and not get the mushroom pizza with plenty of sweet chili sauce on the side (thankfully, you can purchase this sauce to take home). My husband got the sausage pizza, which he said was really tasty. The service is fast and polite, all you can ask for. They use local ingredients wherever possible, which is a huge plus for me. I've decided after my eight dine here (first two times they were so new they weren't even listed in Yelp) that they'd be getting another star from me, and why shouldn't they? They're getting the majority of my dining out business of late and I'm eagerly plowing through everything I can try on the menu. But one thing rocking it for me is consistent service. You can look at a lot of reviews of downtown Lawrence dining I've written and you'll find me on record as observing that solid professional host/hostess and wait-staff service in this college town is an Achilles heel for most restaurants (Free State Brewery and Wheatfield's are exceptions). Special shout out to Sarah (hostess) and Hayden (waiter)... hope I spelled your names correctly. The food here remains solid, exciting and always makes me happy, yet they've successfully avoided what I term the dreaded "stacked and tortured" food syndrome. I've yet to experience anything that wasn't first-rate. The menu items are basics, the ingredients are fresh, often local, and prepared with care. Simple items like the root vegetable side and the insane Hibiscus ice cream just make me happy. Latest surprises: the wine on tap, particularly the Sicilians are wonderful and are served in a plain glass container which I find refreshing. The homemade sriracha sauce is another gem and I can't resist taking little crusts of the pizza and filling the tiny holes with it for a savory, spicy last bite. The calamari is prepared fresh, not frozen, and absolutely melts in your mouth. Need more proof they're getting the attention of the casual dining crowd in Lawrence? I guarantee this is the only dining spot in town this past Monday evening where you had to wait 15 minutes for a table for two at 7:00 p.m. read more

Limestone is a great addition to the downtown Lawrence restaurant scene. The restaurant opened recently in the former La Parrilla space on Massachusetts, but other than the front windows and the exposed rock wall, nothing is the same about the space. The whole interior was remodeled to take more advantage of the space within the storefront, adding more seating in the front and booths further back into the restaurant. The kitchen space was moved to the north wall and includes a bar with a nice tap selection and an open kitchen that has a large wood-fire pizza oven (made of limestone, naturally). In two visits, I've sampled a couple of pizzas as well as a sandwich. On our first visit, Mrs. R and I had the Spud and a the Farmer. The Spud features thinly-sliced potato, rosemary, and crème fraiche. The farmer features bacon, spinach, and a sunny-side-up egg in the center. Both pizzas were very tasty and featured the chewy-but-crisp dough from the wood oven, but I give the advantage to the Farmer as I am a sucker for any dish that is embellished with a soft egg. We also enjoyed a couple of beers from the selection of taps. In our second visit, Mrs. R had a special pizza (which escapes me right now) and I had the pastrami sandwich. The pastrami used in the sandwich is nice and tender, appearing more to be pulled from the brisket rather than sliced, but tender enough that I did not worry about needing to use a toothpick to get at a stubborn bit. The bread is actually sourced from Wheatfields and seemed to have a little butter & griddle treatment to give it a little extra crunch. The sandwich comes with fries, which are thin fried shoestrings. Very tasty, and you can really taste the fresh potatoes. The tap and beer selection is nice -- a selection of local brews and other craft brews on tap, and the menu shows a decent selection in bottles both as individual servings and bombers for sharing. read more

Limestone has GREAT pizza. If you like Neapolitan pizza then this is a place to check out, it's another great Mass Street location. Many of the ingredients used in the menu items are made from scratch and provided by local farmers. The menu has a wide variety of snacks, plates, salads, sandwiches and pizzas to choose from. I like to start with the calamari which is delicious and enough to share with friends. My favorite pizza by far is the margherita. It's simple, but delicious! You can't go wrong. I've also had the farmer -- another great choice. I was apprehensive about trying the farmer at first because it has egg on it. I loved it! The atmosphere here is great! It's fun to be able to see the pizzas being prepared and cooked in the oven. The wait can sometimes be long so plan ahead! read more

I am not a fan of Neo pizza but tried a slice of my wife's, she liked it and felt like it was a throw away. My burger was nothing special as well, I just like more flavor in my food so me and Limestone are not a match. Limestone is a new place selling pizza and sandwiches, as well as daily specials that range from street tacos to fish and chips depending on the day. Named for the behemoth oven surrounded by limestone in the open kitchen and the exposed limestone walls, the restaurant's decor is casual and welcoming, just like the accessible menu and friendly staff. I have only been in twice, but both times I had the pizza and was impressed. The crust is chewy, but still crunchy and the topics eclectic. I have sampled the Spud (with potatoes and creme fresh, the farmer with egg and bacon, and the rotating veggie pizza with broccoli greens). They are around 12 inches and range from $8-13. My dining companion got the pastrami sandwich and fries; it looked amazing and the pastrami is house-made and, per my companion, very tender. Make sure to get the house-made pepper sauce for your pizza,; it is really delicious on the crust (or all over the pizza) depending on your tastes. They also make pickles in house and they are great. They have a full bar with 6 beers and 3 wines on tap; yes, wine on tap. The beers are all craft and a represent a wide selection unlike some places that have fixated on IPAs)--I have able to enjoy a sour, a saison, and a rare IPA during my visits. There can be a daunting wait for dinner during the weekend, but just give them them you name and wonder around the great stores on Mass Street--they will give you a call when your table is ready. read more

I haven't lived in Lawrence for a decade, and I've probably only been back a handful of times since I first moved away. My point? My ideas of Lawrence cuisine are pretty dated. If 48 hours ago somebody had asked me to name the best Lawrence pizza, I'd say Papa Keno's or maybe Rudy's - or if you're drunk, Pyramid. Now, however, I'd say Limestone. And specifically, I'd shout out their Summer Pizza. Let me tell you a little something. If you live in Lawrence and haven't had this pizza, you're not right in the head. With it's bacon, tomato and roasted corn sauce, it had not only a fantastic flavor, but also texture. The crust is perfectly chewy, and they give you some sort of house-made hot sauce to dash over it. Just ridiculously good. The space is sparse and clean, tables in the front and the bar in the back. They have a good beer list, appetizing salads and sandwiches, and a great staff. The prices are reasonable. The Yelpers that recommended this place to me were 100% correct. This place is great! Limestone has quickly risen in the rankings in our family as our favorite place to go. Why? Kids: pizza! (duh, they're kids), particularly the margherita pizza with its homemade mozzarella and drizzle of basil oil; house-made drinks like limeade and vanilla soda; and the Limestone Salad, which they inhale each time. Parents: versatile menu to suit our moods, whether we feel like pizza or not (sandwiches and chili are great, depending on the season); best vegetable options in town, farm-fresh and cooked with such care; beer selection, on tap and in cans; cocktails like the Halfway to Scarborough with the ground black pepper on top (yep, try it!) and the Paloma and the margarita (which rivals Taco Zone's marg, need to do a taste test sometime) In short, when we say we're going out to dinner, 9 times out of 10, the kids say "Limestone!" We went for lunch on Saturday about 11:30 and got a table by the window. The server was friendly and promptly spilled an entire wine bottle's worth of water in my shoes and down DH's side. So, less that ideal opening, but she apologized profusely. On to the food, ordered a pastrami sandwich - YUM! spicy, great bread, big enough for four people. The Spud pizza was so so; there was good flavor, but the crust was so burned in places on the bottom I peeled most of the toppings off and just ate around the burned parts. Overall, I would have liked to try the dessert. The menu options looked good, but after just an OK experience, I didn't want to chance $4 on a mediocre dessert. I think I'll stick with the old standby down the street and go to Free State. read more

Staff was very welcoming and friendly from when I first stepped in. They had a large menu of cocktails and unique drinks and multiple taps of craft beer and some local stuff. I ordered a beer from Blind Tiger just a hop, skip, and a jump west. For food I ordered The Spud. Pizza was cooked perfectly. The crust was thinner than most neo pizzas I've had. Literally like a cracker. Which isn't a bad thing. Layers of potato and crumbles of bacon on top drizzled in sour cream. Delicious. I could eat the whole thing, but just barely. We really enjoyed our meal here. This is the second time we tried to get a seat. This time we were successful because there was room at the pizza bar. If they don't have tables and booths available, ask the hostess if you can eat at the pizza bar. Its full service and it will help you avoid the wait for a seat. We tried the mozzarella appetizer and the sauerkraut appetizer. Both were good and reasonably priced. For dinner we had the cheese and sausage pizza and the spud pizza. The cheese and sausage pizza was very good and the seasoning made it extra flavorful. The spud pizza was also very good. You'd think that potato, cheese, and bacon would be heavy, but this was incredibly light since the potatoes on the pizza were very thinly sliced. (It reminded me of the pierogi pizza--minus the calories--that is served back home in Pennsylvania. The food was good, there was a nice drink selection, and the staff was friendly. Overall, a nice addition to Lawrence that diversifies the pizza offerings in this town. read more

Shamed for Dining By Myself on Valentine's Day! I'm traveling by myself for work and unfortunately I can't spend vday with the boyfriend. No big deal, but thought I'd try out this place figuring pizza might not be top-of-mind for the holiday. The place was full but there wasn't a visible wait, so I asked the hostesses is there any issue with any issue with going to the bar and they told me that they don't monitor them so they don't know and that it's help yourself - which of course. So there's a true bar counter but then there's another bar counter next to the bar but overlooking where they make pizza, it wasn't clear that these were seats that needed to be waited on. There was only one barstool open (everything else was taken by couples) so I hopped on and after a few minutes of not being addressed I asked a passing waitress for the menu or if I should ask the bar. She asked me if I was sat by the hostess and I said no, explaining that it wasn't clear that these bar seats weren't self seating. The waitress said she had to check if it was ok if I sat there, and I explained that she could do that but it's the only seat available since everyone else is a couple. She got kind of snippy (I guess overwhelmed by their "busy-ness) and attempted to explain to me how I had to be sat by a waitress and couldn't seat myself and she has to make sure I can sit there (again, only single seat In the whole place). Honestly, I understand theres a process but the way it unfolded was rude and really called out my single situation by other couples sitting around me. I told her forget it it's fine and got up to leave and she said "ok fine". Take your own opinion but this is an example of straight inconsideration on a regularly busy Friday night. Not sure if I'll be coming back for mediocre experience with customer service. read more
