We were so excited to stay here pictures looked great etc.. when we showed up, looked as great in person! Was so excited to stay. When hubby came back to car after checking us in and not looking happy, told me that they have an off site building that we had to stay in??!! Ok?? What does that mean??! Well we had to get back on the highway and drive about 1/4 mile north then turned into a small parking lot in front of a bldg. that looked like condo's. No pool or hot tub, no restaurant, no resort facilities. Now we could use the hotel amenities but would have to walk or drive back. Very inconvenient, and our bldg. was across hwy from the water ,like the main hotel is on. Had no view except for a dirty narrow canal with people's houses. Now I have a 2 star instead of 1 because our room was very large and looked like was a converted apt. Maybe? Lots of storage a small kitchen nice bath and a sep. bedroom . And had coffee service in room. But wifi was not working. Had 2 separate tvs 1 in living room 1 in bedroom.Seemed clean. Nice large front deck with comfy hammock and small table and chairs. We booked through Expedia and Hubby went back on to look at description and the small writing. And then noticed there was something about separate accommodations. But unless you're Really Paying Attention would never know. I think the Hotel needs to have a big obvious disclaimer about possible staying off site. Away from amenities so us the consumer can make an informed decision before making reservations, therefore maybe being able to ask specifically to stay onsite to take advantage of all the amenities Feel very jipped! The rooms were nice and very clean with a breathtaking view from our room but my issue was one particular staff member that made our stay unpleasant. We felt harassed by the way she spoke to us in a condescending tone. For the two days we stayed she managed to disrupt our stay. She needs to work on her customer service skills because everyone else in the hotel was very nice and accommodating. The maintenance staff is always working hard to keep the property looking clean and the housekeeping staff did a phenomenal job. Ana from housekeeping made sure we had clean towels even though we had the Do not disturb sign which was greatly appreciated. I stayed here yesterday. I absolutely love this resort and will return as soon as possible. The vibe is terrific, the property is lovely and the sunsets are the stuff of legend. We really love this place! Check in took 20 seconds and we were impressed by our room which was right on the water. The room was clean and spacious and had a small kitchen space and patio. The resort has a nice beach, pool area, Fishing dock, and free use of kayaks, bikes, and paddle boards. The place is super laid-back and hassle free. It was a great place to just relax and have a good time. There is a restaurant right on the property that has good food and a great happy hour. The resort provides a free breakfast at the restaurant. I saw some complaints about the breakfast on yelp but to be honest with you it was a step above almost any other hotel breakfast I have ever had. There were lots of choices including an egg casserole dish each morning. If there was any downside, aside from that restaurant that is on the property, everything else is a few miles away. We loved the place and will definitely consider it next time we visit. read more

I stayed here from March 7-10, 2020 and rented a townhouse unit 9... first off no dresser in my room, toilet ran ALL NIGHT... didn't get a clean towel my whole stay .... went to staff to advise about dresser they didn't really have any resolve except more hangers.... the light in hallway didn't work the ice maker didn't work... i don't feel it was worth the price it was a run down facility over all.... rooms had a stagnant smell ... would not recommend this place. A couple more things... leaf blowing and trimming of trees at 6 am plus the traffic all night.... TERRIBLE read more

Very quaint little resort, simply perfect we spent the weekend there for our anniversary and it was just perfect, the entire place was simply charming, quiet, relaxing. The only thing they need to do is trim the palm tree that covers their sign, we actually went passed it because we couldn't see it. The office staff was very friendly we checked in, in no time at all ready to do nothing but relax, the room was big and spacious, very pretty, it came with a small fridge, microwave....it was a plus. The room was clean, well kept, they offer free wifi and there is a tv of course. We dropped our bag and went outside to take the scenery. The scenery was perfect, hammocks, lounge chairs, umbrella huts and tables with chairs cover the beach front area along with a huge chess set, very cute, you can go swimming at your own risk or seat at the end of the dock to just get lost in the ocean view. They offer kayak, paddle boards and bicycles to their guest at no charge, you can snorkel there or just rent a boat on pier 68 across from them. The pool although not big is adequate, they have a hot tub just feets away from the pool of course it over looks the ocean and we watch the sunsets while there from the pool each night. The sunsets were spectacular to say the least. Complimentary breakfast was served each morning from 8 to 10, they had a variety of baked goods and bagels, fruits, oj, coffee, their banana nut and chocolate chip muffins were finger licking good. Reserved 2 suites (one 2 Bedroom and one 3 bdrm) for my family of 10 over the holidays. As a few people could only stay one night, i reserved the 2 bdrm for a single night and the 3 bdrm for 2 nights. When I checked in, I was I informed by one individual that due to construction in the 3 bdrms, they could only give me 2 x 2 bdrms. They said "didn't you get a call"? Which I did not. They promised me a roll away which never arrived. Called the desk after several hours and they said they had no additional beds. I asked for extra bedding so the inconvenienced individuals could have a blanket on the couch- they never even did that! The next morning when the smaller family checked out, they informed the remaining 6 of us that we had to move into the smaller of the 2 bdrms (forcing us to pack up everything only 14 hours after checkin). At this point, the front desk blamed me for the issues until I showed them the email reservations .... and they transitioned to blaming the third party booking agency! Apparently there was no construction at all!! After much debate, they moved us to a 3 bdrm for the final night (which is only what we had already paid for). And I received no refund for the first night!! This resort is attractive- I will give it that- but run by dishonest individuals. This is the worst customer service i have experienced in many many years, and from a quite overpriced resort. Do not ever stay here! There are so many wonderful and beautiful resorts throughout the keys. Cross this one off your list! read more

I have stayed here twice now and love it! The price is good for the keys and there are so many activities to do right at the resort. Kayaking is free. They have a nice pool with a semi-hot jacuzzi. Lots of hammocks and a great Italian restaurant next door make this place a gem. The staff is kind and accommodating. One thing is the room I stayed in last night could use some replacements. The clothing rack is rusting and the bed box spring (I always check for bed bugs) was repulsive (but no bed bugs). There were some insects last night but it is south Florida after all. read more

Prior to my arrival I read many posts on here that made me feel a little discouraged. They are ABSOLUTELY NOT true. I arrived late on Dec 13,2019 and Lauren was there to greet me. She provided excellent customer service and was very thorough with places and things about the resort. Maintenance was on property and the resort was spotless. People complained about the smell. Sadly the smell is from the seaweed that the resort cannot do anything about. I live in Florida and there is seaweed at EVERY beach. Its a common thing people! As for my room I booked the deluxe waterfront room which was spot on. There are tables and 2 chair for every room on the second floor that I was on. The room was spotless and the pictures on the website was exact. As for hidden resort fee?!?! It is NOT hidden. Everyone should understand the Keys are NOT the only place that charge such a fee. All surrounding Disney hotels do the same as do most resorts on the water from the east coast of Florida to the west cost. There is no doubt in my mind I will be returning. I was looking to book for Christmas but sadly I needed 2 beds which is sold out but I will return monthly after the holidays. read more

We really enjoyed our stay at the resort. Our room had an amazing view of the sunset and water. The suite itself was very clean. We loved the kitchenette- we were able to keep leftovers and a some fruit for breakfast. The beach at the hotel is not one you can play in the water with small kids. It's more of a chill out location & kids can play on the sand. To be honest, we ran around so much that we didn't get a chance to enjoy it- we will next time:)! The pool was nice and clean- the hammocks were awesome! The only downfall- there is one employee who's not the friendliest- base on others reviews I'm sure others encountered he as well. All I can say is if your are working in hospitality, you should be more hospitable. Breakfast needed some help. Packaged parties is not the way to go. Pick up some local fruit, muffins, pastries, and even small boxes if cereal- would go a long way! Location is ideal for exploring the keys! I cannot wait to return! read more

We stayed here for a quick two-day jaunt to the Keys. For about $100/night, we stayed in the yellow condos on the other side of street from the main part of the hotel, and they were lovely. These condos were brand new, and felt very apartment-like. They had all new furniture, bamboo flooring, a full kitchen, big comfy king bed, nice bathroom, living room with a big TV and a nice sound system for your iPod, a deck. Very sweeeet. I felt like I was living in an Ikea model home. :-) The main part of the resort was a quick walk across the street. Don't miss the sunset from the resort's comfy chairs-- it's amazing. I agree with Sarah D.: The word "resort" brings to mind a Sandals kind of place, but instead this is a comfortable family-owned motel. Still, nothing to complain about. The restaurant next door (Little Italy) was tasty and convenient. Yay! read more

The website looks great and there are fine reviews for this hotel. I was completely surprised to find how terrible it actually was. The woman who works in the evening has a personality disorder that should exempt her from working with people. She was rude from the point of check-in. The property is nice, but but separated by a hwy that you have to run across. They also did not clean our rooms. They took our old towels, but did not leave clean ones. When we called for towels, they told us we could pick them up from across the street. Cute property. No real beach but you can access the Gulf of Mexico. Hammocks on sand are so relaxing. Rooms pretty clean and broom provided so you can sweep too. No beach towels provided at hotel side and neither of pools open on hotel side. You can walk across the highway to use the pool over at the townhomes. Not sure where my original review went (there was a duplicate page) so I'll post another. My family (4 adults) stayed in the townhouses on the canal side for several days this past summer ('14). We have stayed in numerous condos and several houses at various beaches and know you can wind up with a range of conditions, amenities and service. I'd say Lime Tree was somewhere in the low~middle. It seems you pay a lot simply for being in the keys, which I feel leaves little incentive for improvement. First impressions were that the place is cute. Overall clean and in good order if not sparce in the decor department. Rooms were, however, not detailed so to speak. I found unused feminine hygiene products in a drawer and the shower curtains were pink which indicates bacteria. So I wore flip flops and cleaned for myself.... Otherwise, we enjoyed the 2 balconies and patio overlooking the working canal and neighborhood. (If you can't abide stairs consider a room on the Gulf side.) Considering they call it a resort, I expected a tad more. Depending on who you met in the offfice or around the grounds, they could either be friendly or brisk. Nevertheless, management did hush a groul when their noise level grew unreasonable which we and other families truly appreciate. Location. Well many locations in the Keys have to deal with the main road noise and crossigs. Lime Tree is no exception. Finally the real reason we went--The water is fantastic! Calm and warm like a bathtub. The word beautiful is much too overused to sufice. Sure their "beach," pool, and dock could use more privacy, seating and sprucing up, but I was there to relax not analyze. If you don't like the feel of seaweed (though it is more authentic) bring water shoes along with your snorkel and sunscreen. read more

They have a dock where some Floridiains where driving up for the night with their boats. Three stars... The room was clean. Clean white linens. Floor was tile. No carpet to get dirty. Two stars... This place is remotely located. Almost no restaurants around. Plan to drive 30 to 40 minutes to Marathon or Key Largo to get a good meal, gas or groceries. Breakfast was ok. Bagels and coffee. A bit crowded and a 5 to 10 min wait for coffee from the pod machine. One star... It took 20 min to get hot water in the shower. Towel rack in the bathroom was broken off the wall. Our room had a tree right outside which was dropping so, fruit and attracting a lot of bugs. Stay away from 119 or 120. Woman behind the desk was not at all friendly. Room was not cleaned one day as the maid came at 4:30 when we had just laid down for a n after a long day. Don't expect any suggestions on where to eat or what to do... Luckily you have yelp... Strangely, I would stay there again. The price is right. Just don't expect much more than a great view. read more

My family and I had stayed in the big yellow houses and they were nice until we started actually lookin at things. The beds were disgusting there was spots on the sheets and there was markings on the door and walls that looked absolutely dirty! For this place to be as expensive as it was it should NOT look like it did. Also, we went over for the breakfast in the morning and we were all getting our food well one of us had sat down and there was a cockroach on the floor the size of a mouse!!!! There should NOT be cockroaches in the restaurant period! I mean hello health code violation because when there's one there's more! I booked this resort as a romantic birthday getaway gift for my husband. So, of course I wanted it to be perfect for him. We checked in, got to our room, and there was a cardboard box full of trash in front of the door. We slid it to the side, went inside and used the bathroom, and no soap anywhere in the room. Checked the shower, no shampoo or conditioner either. I went back to the front desk to see if these things were included since the closest store is 20 minutes away. The woman at the desk apologized profusely and provided the toiletries we needed and said she would send someone to get the trash. We then took our pool towels and watched sunset from the hottub. We got back to the room, showered, and no room towels anywhere. We had to use cold, wet pool towels to attempt to dry off. Had to go back to the front desk for a 3rd time in just a few hours. Again profuse apologies and a promise that housekeeping would do a better job the next day. Breakfast doesn't start until 7:30am, so we missed it both mornings as we were diving and had to be at the marina at 7:30am, something that should be mentioned on the website. We thought we would be able to grab at least a yogurt and banana from the continental breakfast on our way out. Day 2, after a full day of diving, we came back to our room exhausted, looking forward to a hot shower and a nap. We opened the door and were met by an unmade bed and dirty towels on the bathroom floor. Housekeeping never came. No clean towels AGAIN! As I marched out of the room to head back to the front desk yet again, I almost tripped over ANOTHER bag of trash on our porch. Again profuse apologies and a promise to send someone to the room to "clean up" in an hour when we were leaving for dinner. After showering and a short nap, we let her know we were leaving for dinner. Why were we surprised when we came back 2 hours later to the SAME pile of dirty towels and unmade bed?! Apologies are not enough! This was supposed to be a special birthday gift for my husband. Rather than a relaxing stay with no cares in the world, we had no toiletries, no dry towels, and garbage left on our porch 2 days in a row. When I asked to speak to a manager or owner, I was told they were unavailable. Unacceptable! The worst part of all of this, the resort is adorable! The rooms are super cute, the grounds (except for our porch and room) are kept nicely, the beach area is better than I expected, and the entertainment at the bar was great. The musicians were talented, tasteful, couldn't be heard from our room just across the parking lot, and ended at 10pm. This place has great potential but obviously needs better management. What a great place to stay in the keys. It's a great halfway point or if you just want to relax. We stayed here for 2 nights in may and the weather was perfect. The room is cottage like with a patio and rocking chairs with view of the ocean right in front of you, about 50 feet away. There are hammocks and tables around the resort and they have a pool right on the water as well. The resort is about a 15 -20 minute drive to islandmorada. There is a boat rental place right next door that has the best prices through south florida. The resort also has kayaks available, but we didn't not have time to use them. We went here because it was near some friends who were staying at the Hawk Cay resort and we cannot be around thousands of screaming kids. Rooms are disappointing, very tiny shower, can hardly turn around in it. Room had odor of shit from the bathroom and the toilet would not flush properly. Told the maintenance guy in morning and he sort of fixed it. Furniture old and mismatched, bed had been cratered out on both sides so wife and I fought for the ridge in the middle all night. No beach to speak of, more like seaweed and rocks. Nice pier, pool was fine. Kayaks available for guests, ho-hum market across the street to get beer and wine. Boat rentals right next door. The grounds are well kept, many hammocks and chairs to sit it. Front desk was fine. This place, with some work, could be fantastic; it is quiet and would be very nice for couples. There is real potential here, but too much seems to be on auto-pilot. Looks like they are upgrading the place, and that's good. For the price, and seclusion, it beats Hawks Cay for the area, but still has a way to go. read more

This was our first venture away from home post-COVID and we returned to Lime Tree because we have had some great memories here in the past. Right away I was struck with the great preparation in response to COVID - a text message sent me to a link that allowed me to complete check in before we arrived. Our room key was hanging on an envelope on the office door. Our room was sanitized and beach towels, hand sanitizer and anti-bacterial hand soap were in the room. In lieu of their continental breakfast they placed a laminated menu in the room and you could place an order by text on your phone and pick it up in the morning. Most of the other guests were observing the social distancing protocols and there was certainly enough room to spread out. It was strangely odd to not connect with the management and other guests, but Lime Tree Bay was all about doing their part to keep COVID numbers down so The Keys can keep welcoming travelers safely. Construction on the new pool is in process (while the old one is still open) and the sand is silky smooth. You just can't beat those sunsets! We just recommended it to some friends and we can't wait to come back ourselves! read more

The younger front desk girl..she seems unhappy or sorta crabby so almost everything out of her mouth came across as bitchy. Wow! We had an amazing time at the Lime Tree Bay Resort. My wife, mother-in-law, myself and three kids needed a larger place to stay down in the keys and we really wanted to be close to Islamorada but we also wanted a good value. Lime Tree was the perfect resort for us. We stayed in a three bedroom townhome which gave us all the right amount of space and privacy. The townhouse was literally next to the pool and overlooked a canal with dock where you can park your boat during your stay. We absolutely loved that the resort had kayaks, paddle boards and bikes free of charge for guests and without any time limits. We heavily utilized the kayaks and loved paddling around the bay, it's serenely gorgeous. The resort has the only restaurant in Layton as well. The food is very good and has hands down the best chicken fingers myself or my children have ever had. Staff at the resort was very helpful and attentive, they were even flexible with our check out time, we didn't need the room but we wanted to use the amenities (the kayaks). Proximity to Islamorada was perfect and made for an excellent date night for my wife and I. The resort is also a stones throw away from Long Key State Park and there are boat rentals literally next door at Pier 86. Not too mention the resort is overflowing with the history of the famed Zane Grey. I highly recommend Lime Tree Bay Resort, the views are incredible and you really feel like you are staying in paradise. read more

The two stars are for location. The overall property and housekeeping was disappointing. The first call out was having to replace "5" light bulbs myself. Four were out and one missing at checkin. The bottoms of our feet were black everyday. No mopping or probably sweeping by this crew. One day they make a bed, the next day not. One of their fine crew even threw a bag of towels over the 2nd rail just missing my wife. They were not friendly and did not care. When I think of a place called a "resort" I would think a bit of beach maintenance (remove the 10 foot of churned up smelly weeds) would be a given. Again, poor standards. The two ladies we encountered out first night were very nice and accommodating. The lady at counter during checkout could care and did not even how visit was. The positives were the view (not from the room), but from beach and pool. We also caught many small barracuda from dock as well as other small fish. Decided to drive to the key west this year instead of the ferry and figured "lets stop part way to break up the drive." Picked the lime tree partly because it is almost exactly half way, but also the reviews were ok, the price was right (before Christmas is very reasonable!) We got one of the king rooms, which if you go before the holidays was very cheap, so check out the prices at different times and plan. The room was huge and seemed like it was recently redone with a great 4 poster bed. He had a nice view of the water and the grounds in front were very nice. Very much geared up for sitting under a tiki or in a hammock over looking a small bay. The staff was very helpful. If you are looking for any thing more than sitting around then this is probably not the key or the resort for you. They do have kyakes but no easy way to get into the nearby park. Just a couple of mini marts on the island but that is about it. The restaurant their web page says will reopen in January 2013? Well I think it will be lucky to reopen ever as right now (as of december 2012) it has no roof. As a place to escape to for a day or two, I wold certainly go to the lime tree again. read more
