As many of us do, we will look at the reviews and see it's highly rated only to realize that all the fake/paid 5/5 reviews are distorting the rest of the real ones that will discuss the truth of what you'll get with this stay. You will go to the manager to discuss this putrid smell and attempt to get a refund since you not only can't sleep through the disgust, the beach that you mainly booked for, is completely not usable. The manager will regurgitate a scripted response as she has done many times because there's obviously been a substantial amount of complaints regarding the lack of usability of the beach. It is as follows: - We have a live camera that shows the quality of the beach - I scream from everywhere regarding the sargasm - just check the website - No refunds. I'll credit your stay but you should have known the risks if you just look at the website. - We clean the beach daily. - It will be better when there is high tide. It's just low tide right now. - This all came in last night. All of that are completely erroneous. They have no live camera or mention of built up sargasm/seaweed on their website, and with the ample amounts of trash and literal decomposing seaweed, it is very telling that there is no daily clean up. There is a camera of the patio and far off ocean that conveniently does not display the shoreline but that's a separate Florida website that displays several hotels with the conditions of the property. Again, this camera also does not transparently show the shoreline where tons of sargasm built up is displayed. As a business owner, I understand that company culture starts at the top. A manager who repeatedly makes dishonest claims and responds defensively rather than with understanding reflects a culture established by ownership--one that prioritizes denying refunds over treating customers fairly. That approach may protect a single payment, but it will ultimately cost the business far more in trust and reputation. As more customers share honest experiences like mine, those reviews will speak louder than the questionable stream of perfect five-star ratings, and potential guests will know to stay elsewhere. So, now you have booked to stay here and you are told no refunds - what to do? 1 - document everything (be very honest and show exactly what you got - the truth is on your side). 2 - forget them giving you a refund or Expedia or wherever you booked because they will not try to help you at all. Instead, go to your credit card company and dispute it with them letting them know that literally you are not getting what you paid for. You probably were like us and wanted to use the beach and the beach is not only unusable and gross - it is hazardous. 3 - leave immediately (we left after 1.5 hours) and stayed at another hotel. Why put yourself through torture and pay for a terrible experience? I'm telling you, your stay will get so much better elsewhere. We personally booked at the Hyatt Vacation Homes for less money in Key West and had a FABULOUS time once there. 4 - Again, document all the issues you see in the hotel and follow up with your credit card customer service team. Also, contact the Florida health code and other departments (elevator, hotel ratings, BBB, etc.), so they at least meet minimal standards for operating a hotel. I can't emphasize this enough - DO NOT STAY HERE. You will be miserable. It's gross, dirty, and they have terrible customer service. Save yourself the headache. It is as it smells - like a piece of decomposing sargasm.

The rooms and bathrooms are surprisingly spacious, with multiple room configurations available. Many of the suites could easily accommodate a family of four or five. We weren't traveling as a family, though we were there for a romantic getaway, and it was the perfect setting for that as well. The property has three pools, giving everyone options. There's a huge main pool, a nice-sized adults-only pool (which was a bit of a walk from our room, but we still spent most of our pool time there), and a smaller pool right outside our room that we absolutely loved. We visited during one of the hottest weeks of the year, so the smaller pool felt more like a warm bath than a refreshing swim...but that's Florida in July! One nice features was the protected swimming area in the ocean. It was such a fun place to cool off, float, and enjoy the beautiful water. The tiki bar overlooking the ocean is gorgeous and has the perfect island vibe. There's also a small restaurant on the property that opens for dinner after 5:00 p.m., but pretty $$$ One unexpected bonus was the amazing Cuban restaurant directly across the street. We ate there several times during our stay (I'll be writing a separate review because it deserves one!). Another great attraction is the Turtle Hospital, which is literally next door. It's an inspiring place to visit and made it easy to enjoy an educational outing before heading back to relax at the resort. A few things to know before you go: * Pool service is available, but if you're expecting quick cabana-style service, be prepared to wait. * There is one small fitness center, and it's also where the ice machine is located. We were lucky because our room was nearby. * If you use a lot of ice, consider bringing a cooler and extra ice with you. Most rooms have refrigerators, but not all include a freezer, as an example ours did not. But lucked out on location *room 107 What truly set Tranquility Bay apart, however, was the staff. During a small medical issue I experienced, their response went far beyond simply following protocol. They were there immediately, but what impressed us even more was the genuine concern they showed afterward. There's a difference between employees who are simply protecting the company and those who truly care about their guests as people. The team at Tranquility Bay showed us they genuinely care, and we'll never forget that kindness. We also had an issue with my husband's motorcycle, and Jose was there right away to help. His willingness to jump in without hesitation is another example of the outstanding customer service we experienced throughout our stay. Beautiful property, spacious accommodations, relaxing pools, stunning ocean views, and a staff that treats you like family, that combination is what makes Tranquility Bay a place we'd happily recommend. June 11 - Arrival, Villa 7083 Upon entering our original…read morevilla, it was immediately obvious that the unit had not been properly cleaned or maintained. Among the issues we encountered: Cockroaches running on the walls Large dark brown stains throughout the carpets, including significant stains in the master bedroom and on the staircase Cracked tile on the flooring and carpet that clearly hadn't been vacuumed Dirty men's socks left behind in the closet of one of the bedrooms A strong mildew odor throughout the villa Water-damaged furniture in the master bedroom that appeared to be rotting from prolonged moisture exposure. I immediately reported the issues to the front desk. What was equally disappointing was the response. The manager on duty never came out to speak with me personally. Instead, the front desk employee repeatedly walked to the back to consult with management and returned to tell me there was nothing that could be done because the resort was sold out. As a result, my family was forced to spend the night in a villa that should never have been assigned to guests in the first place. I have photographs and video documenting every issue described above. June 12 - Second Villa, Same Problems 7086 The next day, we moved four adults, two children, luggage, and approximately $450 worth of groceries into Villa 7086. Shortly after settling in, we discovered the air conditioning was not functioning properly. Maintenance responded and measured the villa at 78 degrees. The temperature later climbed to 84 degrees. We were told management would be notified and the issue addressed. That never happened. On top of that my son had bugs crawling all over his bed. Comes to find out they were termites! Not, one or two but dozens - in the pillow cases, sheets, etc. The only reason this issue ultimately received attention was because later that day the Director of Engineering Danielle happened to ask how our stay was going while I was in the gift shop. Once she heard what had occurred, she immediately stepped in and began working to resolve the situation. Danielle deserves recognition because she was one of the ONLY employees during our stay who demonstrated urgency, professionalism, and a genuine concern for guest satisfaction. Later that day, Danielle arranged for us to move yet again--this time into two connecting rooms in the main hotel while also securing a third room for my brother and his girlfriend. When I asked what we should do with the groceries and supplies, she advised us to leave them in the villa and stated that the villa would be taken out of service until the air conditioning could be repaired. At that point, we had spent a significant portion of our vacation packing, unpacking, relocating belongings, coordinating food storage, and dealing with issues. June 13 - More Service Failures The next morning I took my daughter to breakfast at the café. We sat for approximately 10-15 minutes while multiple employees stood nearby talking among themselves. No one greeted us. No one acknowledged us. No one offered menus. No one checked on us. Employees walked by our table repeatedly and even cleared nearby tables while completely ignoring us. Eventually, I got up and left. A female staff member who was cleaning a nearby table noticed me leaving and hurried over to ask me to stay, but by that point we had already waited far too long without any service. I am confident this entire interaction would be visible on the café's surveillance footage. The café provided some of the worst service we experienced during our stay. The staff the works there barely speaks English and had zero sense of urgency to serve guests. Additional Concerns I also learned that my brother was repeatedly approached by staff members in the room that Danielle had assigned to him and questioned about him, receiving knocks on his door multiple days during the trip even when the Do Not Disturb sign was displayed. While I understand security procedures, repeatedly questioning a registered guest made him feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. What was especially troubling was that a male staff member knocked on his door and asked, "Are you supposed to even be in this room?" That type of interaction is completely inappropriate. Treating a paying guest. Treating a paying guest as though they don't belong there are accusing them of basically being a squatter was embarrassing, disrespectful, and is 100% classified as harassment vs. hospitality. Perhaps the most disappointing part of this experience is that Danielle informed me that the GM Bob L. would be contacting me directly to set up a in person meeting regarding the issues we experienced. When that didn't happen she said he would call me- he never did. When that didn't happen I emailed him 3x and never got a response.

The property shines in many areas, especially if you're looking for a relaxing resort atmosphere with beautiful water views, pet-friendly accommodations, and a fun, laid-back vibe. That said, there were a few frustrating misses that held this back from being a 5-star stay. THE GOOD * Beautiful beach & lagoon area - Easily one of the highlights of the property. Relaxing, scenic, and fun overall. * Salt + Ash is a must - Exceptional food and one of the best dining experiences on property. The wine selection was top-notch and the beef tenderloin was outstanding. Easily our favorite restaurant. * Incredible staff throughout the resort - Bell staff, valet, oceanfront servers, housekeeping crew, and pool staff were consistently kind, personable, and welcoming. * Staff who go above and beyond - Huge shoutout to Joshua, who helped us secure chairs near the adult pool, and Danielle, who took time to chat, swap stories, and made us feel genuinely welcome. Hospitality like that sticks with you. * Captain's Suite is worth the upgrade - Strongly recommend spending the extra money if budget allows. The added space made the trip: dining area, living room, fridge, two toilets, large balcony, and beautiful water views overlooking the pool and lagoon. Few resorts feel this comfortable and accommodating for travelers with animals. Staff were respectful, welcoming, and there were no awkward restrictions or friction. Perfect for unwinding poolside. * 20% off dining on property helped offset costs - Appreciated perk considering resort pricing. THE NOT-SO-GOOD * Front desk communication & housekeeping logistics need work - This was our biggest frustration. We stayed in a Captain's Suite and requested both a room cleaning and balcony cleaning (bird droppings had accumulated on the balcony) around 10 AM. The front desk wrote down our room number and assured us it would be taken care of. When we returned around 3:30 PM, neither had been done. By after 4:30 PM, the room had finally been cleaned, but the balcony still hadn't been addressed. When you pay extra for a premium room and oceanfront balcony experience, this feels disappointing. There also seems to be a mild pigeon issue, and balcony maintenance should really be part of a regular checklist. Some simple bird deterrents or more proactive cleaning would go a long way. * Concierge/text support didn't materialize - We were told we'd receive a concierge-style welcome text shortly after check-in for support/questions. Unfortunately, we never received it. To make matters worse, the room phones didn't work, meaning concerns had to be addressed in person while waiting in the front desk line. * Food quality was inconsistent - Salt + Ash was phenomenal, but not every dining experience matched that standard. Tiki Grill: Great drinks and atmosphere, but the food was forgettable, under-seasoned, and not something we'd order again. Fine in a pinch. Angler & Ale: Beautiful waterfront views and exceptional staff, but the food leaned heavily fried and felt more like average bar food than resort dining. Fish and chips were disappointing. Oddly enough, the banana split ended up redeeming the meal. * Convenience store prices were shocking - Convenient? Yes. Affordable? Not even close. A few sodas and snacks escalated to $60+ surprisingly fast. I expected a slightly easier option versus restaurant pricing, but the markup felt extreme. * Parking costs add up - Valet runs about $40/day and self-parking is roughly half, but expect around a 10-minute walk with luggage, making valet feel almost mandatory. FINAL THOUGHTS Despite some communication breakdowns and uneven food experiences, we truly enjoyed our stay. The Captain's Suite, peaceful balcony views, fire pit at night, lagoon, beach access, pickleball, and pet-friendly atmosphere made for memorable moments. My advice: upgrade to the Captain's Suite, eat at Salt + Ash (seriously, get the beef tenderloin), enjoy the tiki drinks, walk the grounds, soak in the sun, and be selective about food choices elsewhere. We booked a cabana in the main pool which was large enough that we weren't really splashed or annoyed by little kids, and there were a lot there considering it was 4th of July weekend. The other pools were also nice, and just plain rectangular pools with lounge chairs around. They also have an over 21 pool which was pretty private and was great for an alternative to the large pool if the kids had been an issue. The resort has the nicest hotel store I've ever seen and they make fresh salads and sandwiches and had pastries and coffee and gelato along with other resort wear and items you may have forgotten. In that building you can book kayaks, padddle boards, jet skis, fishing etc. We wanted to do paddle boarding but the oars had melted from the heat, so we kayaked and melted ourselves from the heat but it was great and reasonably priced. There is beach access as well and the staff did a great job of cleaning the seaweed from the beach, however, the water was too warm to enjoy. Luckily the pools were perfect temps. Food and drinks were good, not crazy prices for a resort on July 4th. They had live music that was great and in multiple locations. Overall, we are 100% coming back for a day pass and will likely book a weekend at the hotel in the future.

Had we known that another mile down the line there would be tons of options we would have done that instead. The units, though, are dismal. The furniture, carpeting and curtains are old and dingy, with dark green carpeting and burgundy curtains and furniture. Because of visibility from one unit into the others, you feel compelled to keep the curtains drawn for privacy, which makes rooms feel very dark. The units have a unique configuration. You walk upstairs to the kitchen and wrap-around porch level, then upstairs again via a spiral staircase to bedrooms, bathrooms and the sitting area. This was not a problem for us, but the group next door included a woman who'd just had foot surgery and she was struggling getting in and out of the unit. You will also need to be able to carry your suitcase up two flights of stairs. Our unit had an updated kitchen, but bathrooms really need updating as well. They are tiny and sad, with shelving and cabinets made of particle board. Location is fine, though you have to drive down a rather industrial road to get to the property. But that hodgepodge seems kind of indicative of the Keys.

It even had a wet bar with an extra sink and an outdoor patio area with a couple of chairs and a small table. There was also a larger-than-average fridge, microwave, and safe. Possibly my favorite thing about Hampton Inns is the included breakfast. It's so convenient to have a wide selection of foods available to start your day. There's always some meat (typically sausage patties or bacon), eggs (typically scrambled or frittatas), and breakfast potatoes; oatmeal, yogurt, and some toppings; cereal (frosted flakes, cheerios, and I forget the last one) and milk; bagels, bread, and toppings (cream cheese, butter, jam, etc.); fruit (typically bananas and apples); waffle batters (vanilla and a rotating flavor like blueberry or banana) and an iron; juice (typically OJ and apple or POG); and I'm probably missing other things. There is ice, hot and cold water, tea, and coffee available 24/7. Other amenities include a pool, tiki bar that serves drinks and food in the pool area, room service, a decent gym, and a little dock where iguanas like to hang out throughout the day. Service was excellent. Parking is $10/night with in and out privileges and there are plenty of stalls. And because of the layout of the hotel which only has 2 levels of rooms, you may be able to park right outside your room's patio door.
