I bought a Bruno Visconti journal and fell in love, came back and bought some more. Returned and they were sold out, the employee was so helpful and let me know I could put in a request for their buyer to order more. She filled out a request sheet and took my information so that they can call me when it comes in. But this is so much more than a place to buy journals. They have a huge pen selection, including some fancy ones. Their seasonal/holiday decor is always so unique and fun. They have a huge kids section and I will be popping in whenever I need a gift. AND stickers. They have a wall of a ton of stickers! They have a party section, greeting cards, gifts for adults and children, and they also make custom paper products like invitations + more. The selection is great, the prices are affordable and nothing feels overpriced, but what really sticks out here is the great staff. (I believe this is a locally owned- women owned business! More of this please!)

I also find gorgeous paper goods for table settings made by Hester & Cook, journals by Leuchtturm that invite me to realize "writing by hand is thinking on paper." It is a joy to look at their gift wrapping paper, but this I eschew in favor of vintage silk and polyester scarves that I buy in lots online. This is a solid source of terrific picture frames, seasonal decorations, and amusements for kids, such as stickers and paper dolls. I don't believe I have ever walked out of the store empty-handed. Parking can be a bit of a challenge given the store proximity to Central Market.

I try to support small businesses when I can so I try to avoid looking at the price on Amazon, but i did in this instance and it was 30% more inexpensive in store for this particular item. Spending local and with small businesses is a conscious decision, so when you can don't be so price motivated only and think of what keeps a local economy thriving.

Originally we were just going visit just 99 Ranch. We didn't know they had a Kinokuniya in Austin so we checked it out. It's located in a strip mall with a bunch of other Asian businesses. I like Austin's layout better than their Portland, Oregon location. The Austin store is less chaotic than the Seattle location. That's partly because the Seattle Kinokuniya is near a public transit hub.

There are such cute things being sold here and also some really unique pieces. There's variety ranging from matcha whisks to fancy candles to handblown glass from Mexico here. I will definitely be coming back here -- it's a nice spot to take a date.

They cram a lot into that compact space without making it overwhelming. The real crowning jewels are the authentic, antique printing presses that are a couple hundred years old, and still cranking! It's amazing to see that piece of history in action. Plus, staff are so kind and clearly passionate about what they do. They'll talk to you for hours about printing, if you want. It's the kind of "only in Austin" business that I want to support.

You can buy tokens and play, and I'm not kidding when I say I wish I could come back every day just to do that. It was ridiculous kawaii fun. The girl at the register made me feel SO welcome and actually engaged with me, which makes such a difference in a small shop like this. I saw beautiful pieces I wanted just for myself, like separate or broken jewelry pieces--a clasp here for a necklace or a link for a watch. Also, I recently picked up an old knitting habit and wanted to replace some old yarn. It was nice to see an area dedicated to yarn, other crafts, and other hobbies. I can say I really got lost inside the store, discovering so much. I saw some frames to purchase to make a gallery wall.
